Back to NSX servicing……

As reported earlier, the header tank was leaking the coolant from the area where the upper and lower tank were bonded.
As I had new one in stock, replaced it.

The tank and Type-R cover were treated with 303 protectant before the installation.

Hope it will last longer this time but even after taking good care on installation method, it’s a hit and miss as some of them can survive years whereas the rest will start leaking at much earlier stage and most annoyingly, it’s always just after 1 year that you can’t claim it back under warranty…..

If the coolant hoses at the radiator are more than one year old, just replace them on installing the Koyo Rad to be on the safe side as the hose neck shape is slightly different compared to the OEM one so you will need to place the hose band at different position.

The existing hose band were already showing some rust so decided to replace them as well.

Vacuum leak check.

I was bit concerned about the wet coolant marking above the rear bank eng block drain plug as this engine was rebuilt in the past by someone so left the system under vacuum for longer period to be 100% sure that there is no leakage.
After more than 90min, there was no movement at the gauge needle so happy to start the filling process using Honda Type 2 coolant.

Just my standard procedure and nothing special for getting rid of some of the air pocket.
Quick 30 – 60sec fireup to shift the air towards the front.
Air bleeding following the workshop manual and then proper fireup.

Warm it up until the rad fan is triggered.
This NSX uses aftermarket ECU and as reported earlier, looks like not using the idle control so always eng rpm is just about 1,000rpm.
It doesn't even have any O2 sensors so no closed loop control nor any monitoring of A/F ratio, on FI application.......

Cool down the engine overnight and then bleed the air again at the radiator (almost none any way) and from the heater core pipe (almost all of the remaining air will be trapped here but only small amount).
Adjust the coolant level and time to fully close the tank cap.

The brake caliper should be back at my place very soon.

As the owner won’t be able to collect the car for a while, I’ll work on another NSX in parallel to reduce the delay in the schedule.

More to follow later.

    Hi Kaz,

May I know what is "303 protectant"? Is that some kind of lotion?

    Thanks
