Bose Speaker AMP Service 02 - Done

Rate this Entry

After servicing the two remaining Front AMPs, all three are ready to be tested on the bench.

As my standard procedure, each AMPs were aged/driven at least 2Hrs with reasonably high signal level to test them under heat.

Happy with the result so they are now ready to be returned to the owner together with the A/C CCU board.

The owner wanted to collect them over the weekend from my place.

Unfortunatey, I already had several appointments and also need to be prepared for the arrival of another NSX during this holiday weekend so they will be returned through the post.

Thank you for using my service and hope to meeting you in the near future.

Regards,
Kaz

    Thanks again Kaz

One question for you: are the replacement capacitors the same as the originals, and likely to deteriorate in the same way over time, or are they upgraded such that they are 'fit and forget'?

Just wondering whether the job will need doing again in a few years, as I'm planning to keep the car a long time.

    Hi, Geraint.

    They are upgraded ones.
Bose has been using the same/similar AMP circuit board design for many years on all sorts of production cars by changing the capacitor/resistor values for the equaliser purpose.

For NSX, they were originally using lots of green coloured audio spec capacitors but eventually, due to the leakage issues, they had to change the capacitor spec as well as the circuit board design.

Over many years, capacitor technology advanced and also because of the RoHS compliance requirement, most of the old parts are no longer sold on the market so you will need to search for the latest ones that are very likley to be upgraded any way.

Like the A/C CCU board, I think they designed the board with the capacitors that were good enough and available at that time but obvioulsy, they didn't last for many years due to the heat shortening the life span.

I can't even remember when I upgraded the capacitors on my CCU board and Speaker AMPs because they were done long-long time ago and they are still fine after many years.

So far, none of them came back for any further service so should last for long time.

    Hi, Geraint.

Just got back from the meeting.
Visited the post office on the way back.

Your CCU board and three AMPs are on their way to you.

Special Delivery Next Day service with increased insurance up to GBP2,500.

Should be with you by tomorrow 13:00.

    Track No. sent over email.

In order to provide extra protection to your bare CCU board, I placed your original box inside mine so the package got bigger but postage was just below the normal fee of GBP10.

Please keep C32 on CCU board as it is (being bent away from Power IC) because it was bent on purposely.

Thank you for using my service and hope to see you in the future.

    Regards,
    Kaz

    Hi Kaz

Received the boards back today, thanks very much.

The quality of your work is amazing - I find it impossible to tell from the soldering on the back of the boards which components have been replaced.

You have one very happy customer here, thanks again for all your help with this.
