DRL (Daytime Running Light) 02

More than 3 years ago, I started looking into installing the DRL and the more I look at other cars, the more favoured the linear/strip looks and I just don’t like the LED dotted appearance.

I know German company Nolden does lots of OEM LED lights and while they are superb, bit pricey especially for something that I want to just try first and then decide what to do later.

So, after looking at the ones from Hella and Philips, decided to go for the Philips DayLightGuide.

I use Type-S damper/spring so about 10mm lowered compared to the standard model and because of this, my NSX is just at the limit of minimum height requirement (350mm) for this type of DRL (dimmable and act as the position light when main light switch is activated) so wanted to be able to disable the DRL and go back to OEM setting if required.
(If the DRL switches itself off instead of dimmed when the position lights are in use, then the minimum height requirement is 250mm.)

Based on these, I decided to use the existing front fog light circuit and modify it slightly to be able to disable the DRL manually.
Fortunately, I still have access to some of the OEM connectors so going to take the main power from one of the existing fog light connector.

By removing the headlight unit, it’s easy to run the cables and tidy them up.

As the DRL, you want to install it as forward as possible to be seen by others but in my mind, the image of OEM fog light was so strong that it just didn’t look right and felt out of place if installed too close to the front.

Probably OK with the face lifted model but not on the pop up.....

So, decided to test-install the left side as forward as possible and for the right side, placed it bit recessed.
This will allow me deciding in which way to go for the final installation.

After testing it including the day/night/wet/dry conditions as well as looking at it from all sorts of angles including the front bumper just coming out from the blind corner, I was happy even with the recessed installation.

Not easy to take good digital photo under this conditions but bright enough under the strong sun light.

Based on the build thread from our member 'britlude', thought about placing meshed cover at the openings to protect the a/c condenser fins but for now, I'll just get the US spec blank cover to hide the a/c pipes.

Will keep testing until I decide what to do with it.
