Cooling Sys Refresh, Health Check, etc 05

The TH body. One of the worst condition that I have ever seen.
It’s not easy to take good photo when it was covered in black colour but there were so much gunk built up at the edge of the TH butterfly that there was a wall consists of blowby gunk.

The area around idle air port was also covered in gunk and I had no confidence in cleaning the internal section so decided to remove the idle air screw completely.
Good decision as the chamber was full of black carbon with sticky debris as well.

I don’t like re-using the screw once removed so going to replace it.

After cleaning it, finally the silver surface emerged.
Should be cleaned once a year or two.

Not much to report while removing all of these coolant hoses. 23 in total for non-DBW MT model.

Time consuming and not enjoyable task as it makes the garage floor wet even after draining the coolant.

New Koyo Racing rad to be installed. For a while, it was out of stock in US but now it’s back in stock.
I actually bought two a while ago.

Will rinse it first before the installation.

I need to replace the CL Hyd sys in parallel but I hope I can return this NSX to the owner on Sunday afternoon.

Hi Kaz, what are you using to rinse it with? Anything special? I need to replace mine sometime this summer. Hoses are all new so just planning to drop new Koyo in.
Also what do you use to mark torqued bolts/nuts? I noticed you started to use some red paint. Thanks

    Nothing special.
Just plain tap water. Quality control of Koyo Racing Rad seems to be good as I don’t see any debris coming out from inside the rad.
    Just rinse it really well.

You may want to replace the upper and lower rad hoses again as the pipe end finish of the Koyo Rad is slightly different from the OEM design.
You will understand what I'm talking about if you look at the Koyo rad itself.
You will need to put the hose band bit further from the hose edge or if re-using the hose, you may want considering the use of double bands method although I have never tried it on this one.

Best to replace all four rad fan shroud bolts at the same time and don't tighten them until you install the upper and lower hoses first.

The markings on the bolts/nuts are just a paint marker. I use them on the key/important places. For the rest, I just use permanent marker as it can be rinsed off by the brake cleaner if required.
