Bose Speaker AMP Service 01

Rate this Entry

Wanted to finish refurbishing the Bose AMP for the owner outside of UK by the Bank holiday weekend but unfortunately, with severe damages to one of the circuit board, several delays on NSX servicing and another project with irregular time table for the weekend resulted in limited time working on the boards as well as extra time required that couldn’t finish the task in time.

Apology to the owner as I believe he wanted to have them back for the car event held in his country later this week.

Addition to these AMP, I have another 4 x Bose AMPs plus 1 x A/C CCU board to be refurbished while working on another NSX with ABS upgrade plus huge task of door window refresh so going to be extremely busy for a while…..

Don’t know what NSX year model the owner has but these AMPs were from different year model so probably, it already had some sort of AMP failure and being replaced at some point in the past.

The Door AMP (the bottom one) was fairly new spec and in good condition but the Passenger footwell Bass/mid AMP was in really serious status.

Even before removing anything, I can see both ICs were heavily damaged and even looked like burnt on one of them.

The connector lock was partially cracked and probably the owner didn’t notice it but there was even a burnt marking on the back of the circuit board at one of the surface mount resistor chip.
It is my policy not to refurbish any boards with trace of burnt components for the reliability concern.

In order to further investigate the damages to the board, started removing the capacitors and already half way through, I came to a conclusion that it’s not worth refurbishing this board.
Removing the capacitors revealed even further damages done on the IC as well as under other components.

It’s better replacing it with another Rear AMP. Unfortunately, I used up my readily available refurbished rear AMP for another owner so in the process of refurbishing another one at the moment.

Hope to finish the service within today and send the package out very soon.
