Eng Refresh, Health Check, etc 13

I now know why the valve covers were so dirty yet the internal engine parts were so much cleaner.

Apparently, the previous owner used to drive long distance regularly so the annual mileage was high but only changed the eng oil like once a year. So, just circulated dirty engine oil inside the engine that holds lots of blowby gunk, moisture, etc. Eventually, it will become sticky gunk and blowby mist resulting in that dirty valve covers.
Current owner knew about this so replaced engine oil frequently and it seems to help a lot in cleaning the engine.
There are still some trace of gunk around the cam journal, holder plate, etc but hoping to cleaning them soon.

Already latest LMA installed at the factory so no need to remove the rocker shafts.

By the way, someone overtightened the coolant drain plug at the rear bank.
Not the first time to see this and the base plug came off together while trying to loosen the drain.
As I keep some stock of aluminium gaskets for the base plug based on many past examples that not a problem but not ideal as well...

Why using so much liquid gasket.....
It's every where and noticed even dropped inside the engine but trapped in the oil pocket at the edge of cyl head.

Keep washing the parts.....

I can't book the flight yet.....

Looks like I won't be able to visit Japan again.....

Temperature changes a lot during day and night these days so although it's not causing condensation yet, it will start to show up especially on the freshly cleaned surface.
Normally, I prefer using more oil than that smelly assembly lube apart from the specific areas but on this engine, looks like I will be forced to use assembly lube at so many places than the oil...... My fingers and possibly the hair will smell like bunt deasel again and I won't be able to sleep well......... I hate that smell..........

More to follow later.
