My eyes..... Planting hundreds of pin bearing hurts.
At my age, I started having trouble looking at objects too close so not good for my eyes....


On top of this, the smell of this custard like CV grease..... I hate this and it was a bad idea doing this in the breakfast room.....
Even after hours, still the smell was inside there..... Hope it won't be there after a few months....






Lots and lots of pin bearing planted and all internal parts are ready for the re-building of the drive shaft.

Time to deal with the new boot kit and that smelly grease....

    Hi Kaz, I'm thinking about finding spare axles and rebuilding them. My passenger side axle started to leak on the outer side between the boot and axle. Boot is not torn but I think clamp is not too tight letting grease out. What kind of grease do you use? And what's common wear bits to look after? Thanks!

    If you can see the grease seeping out of the boot end, then your grease is already like melting coffee ice cream. It's the result of grease breaking down.

    If you buy OEM boot kit, it will come with the smelly yellow custard cream like CV joint grease.
    You will need boot band tool as the new one is much better (double loop type) than the original easy cramp style.

    The wear depends on many factors but most likely, it will depend on how far the grease got broke down, lowered rideheight, use of wide/sticky tyre, aftermarket header/exhaust, driving style/condition, etc.

    It can result in minor damage such as loose spider, scorching marking behind the pin bearing inside the roller, scuff marking around the spherical bearing, etc or to the worst case scenario of cracking the roller itself. I know several owners cracked the joint or seared off the spider.

    Thanks Kaz - appreciate your help. I think what have happened is previous owner didn't lock the boot band right. I can tell boot is fairy new (fresh rubber) and grease is not much of milky looking like on pictures you post. But more like yelowish (looks fresh and fairy new); But anyway I'm on look out for passenger side used axle right now. Then will order rebuild kit and band tool I think I can source at my local auto parts store or amazon (http://amzn.com/B00063XX5U). I was planning to spend some time turning repair manual pages.. I'm not sure if I have to touch anything alignment depended when removing pass axle
