Radiator – emergency swap 02

Rate this Entry

As seen many times on here, the Koyo Racing all aluminium radiaor with nice Tig welding.

As a precaution, rinsed inside many times and ready to be installed.

There are some know-hows for installing it but it will just slide into its original position.
No need to modify the shroud, mounting point, etc.

New upper and lower coolant hose with the OEM cramp installed slightly inward considering the shape of Koyo hose neck.
Originally, planned to re-use the hose cramp but as there were some small corrosion, decided to replace all four with new one.

Nicely done and no need to worry for the crack.

Vacuum leak check and left it for about 1Hr.
Followed by vacuum fill of Honda Type 2 coolant.

After initial bleeding, quick 30sec fire up to push the remaining air in the system towards the heater core bleeder point.
Another bleeding and then proper warm up until the rad fan kicks in.

The most time consuming part was to cool down the engine.

Even parked the car outside and still it took few hours to cool down before I can adjust the coolant level and out for the test driving session.

Happy with the test driving, double checked that there is no air at the heater core or at the radiator, reset ECU as the owner managed to trigger ABS/TCS lights on the way to my place (FR wheel speed sensor failure) and another cool down session before the final coolant level adjustment.

Again, despite parking the NSX outside for few hours, the radiator was cold but the engine was still fairly warm. As the owner already arrived before the final adjustment, asked him to wait inside while adjusting the coolant level.

Quick review of the service over Miracast, discussed about the future service and the owner drove back happily.

It was very tight schedule but glad to finish everything just in time.

Time to work on another A/C CCU board before the other NSX comes back for the driveshaft service.

Thank you for using my service and hope we can get that nice interior trim and carpet from Japan.
