Audio Head Unit 02

Rating: 2 votes, 5.00 average.

Serviced the power filter board as well.

New caps installed.

Although I couldn’t re-create the volume noise issue,
as a standard procedure, sprayed the contact cleaner through the hole at
the volume array.

The owner requested to replace the scratched/tired looking on/off switch with
a new one.
Looks much better now.

As always, strengthen the ACC line whenever I have access to the
internal circuit board.

Bench testing the radio, cassette tape and CD port using
USA Spec PA11-HON iPod adaptor.
I wish they make bluetooth one for our NSX like they done for other Toyota and
Honda later models.

The cause of cracking noise was actually somewhere in the logic circuit or IC itself.
There is an algorithm that will mute the pre-amp signal level when any of the push
buttons/switches or RDS were activated.

Otherwise, every time when you press on the switches or when the RDS tries to
display something, it will cause spike in the signal level resulting in cracking noise.

The noise is only at the right channel (FR and RR) so there is still a possibility of
capacitor leakage but there are 10s of them inside the unit and you can’t check them
without removing them one by one that is simply not cost effective.

You could end up finding nothing after removing all of them.

Part of the cause of issue could be the result of huge impact on the unit or
someone touched somewhere on the board damaging the logic IC and one won’t be
able to replace it without using the proper industrial soldering flow equipment.

In Japan and US, the tuner package uses diversity system so two aerial ports.
You will see printed aerial on the rear hatch glass.
For European model, it’s just single aerial.

After opening and closing the unit more than 3 times, informed the owner,
closed the system and then tested the unit for several hours.

Can’t fix the logic circuit without majour changes but at least, it can be used.
The owner has another spare unit so he may try to merge these to create
one good unit although the difference in the tuner spec would be the
challenging factor.

Thank you for using my service and hope you will be able to merge the two units.

Regards,
Kaz
