EPS Controller Service 01

Rate this Entry

Before start working on the next NSX, another owner sent in
his EPS controller.
He started getting the EPS warning light on the dash and based on
my previous blog and post, he read the error code and found out that
it was the famous EPS code #22.

Once again, it was the ver.023 EPS controller.

It was only installed on the specific year models, very likely to be 95 and 96 models
for the European market before the introduction of later spec EPS Rack and
Controller that eliminated the rotational sensor from the system in 1997.

Some owners had their ver.023 EPS controller replaced with ver.305 but unfortunately,
some of them experienced the same issue again.

The cause of issue is basically, the lack of current capacity on
the power relays inside.
If NSX was mass production model, I’m quite sure it would have been re-called.

Even after the introduction of ver.033 controller from 1997, Acura did release
TSB to replace it with the later spec controller due to similar reason so
you are not alone.

The black cubic block is the power relay.
RLY1 (Relay #1) towards the middle of the circuit board and
RLY2 (Relay #2) at the corner edge.

After removing them, tested on the bench and once again,
the relay #2 showed random resistance confirming that
its contacts were burnt.

The relay #1 was fine.

While waiting for the delivery of the high current capacity relay,
started drilling the holes on the circuit board.
Will make the final adjustment and stripping of coating once I have the
new relays.

For some reason, it’s taking extra days for the delivery of the relays from US.
The latest I was told that it will be delivered around the end of next week or mid/Apr.

I don’t normally stock this relay as the demand is very low but may need considering
at least stocking 1 set for the future usage.

More to follow once I have received the relays.
