A/C CCU Board service 01

Rate this Entry

While carrying out the Eng Refresh, another owner sent in his CCU board
for the repair.

He told me that he no longer could get any power at the display and
simply it was dead.

Received the board and on initial inspection, I already knew that
it would be a big task repairing this board.

It’s the dark green colour circuit board material with black capacitors so
it’s from the early model NSX.

The lead on some of the capacitors were already completely dissolved and
just hanging on the board with just remaining one lead.

The acid managed to penetrate through the circuit board and
reached at the soldering side.

As always, the area around C44 is not looking good.
Diode array DM11 has to be removed for inspection and cleaning.

C25 is normally not required to be removed but on this board,
I must remove it before I can clean and repair the damaged pads and tracks.

The worst affected area was around the C11.
It looked as if it was burnt part of the circuit board.

The nearby track was completely gone so I need to drill tiny hole and
pass the hard wire in order to re-establish the connection between the
top and bottom surfaces.

As I couldn’t power up the board due to severe damage and
although I already confirmed that there was no short at the power circuit,
I won’t know whether I can repair this board or not until I repair majority of the
damages.
