Air Con CCU Board Service 01

Rate this Entry

Another owner contacted me to have his A/C CCU board serviced.

He was suffering from several issues such as;

  • only blows air at max fan speed
  • nothing shows up on the display
  • can’t change the mode from DEF to others
  • not sure the A/C compressor clutch is controlled or not because the compressor was disabled in the past

After receiving the board, I carried out the initial inspection and I’m afraid, I have no confidence on servicing this board….

Normally, I connect the board on my NSX to run the Self Diagnosis test as well as the Operation and Function check but for this one, I told the owner that it was too dangerous to do so based on the following points.

While replacing the capacitors and rebuilding the damaged circuit tracks and pads are not a problem for me, it is a big issue if someone already worked on the board in the past and caused severe damages to it…

This was what I found....

The board was worked by someone without the knowledge of soldering and temperature control…

The circuit tracks and pads were damaged due to excessive heat applied.

One of the resistor was replaced with something but I need to compare it with mine to double check the original resistance spec.

The nearby transistor Q9 looked to be damaged due to poor soldering and too much heat applied to it.

Most of the parts used on the CCU board are from old days and not RoHS compliant that you can no longer purchase exactly the same replacement parts….

C44 has exploded and splashed the acid everywhere.

In fact, one of the lead was already dissolved and just held in place by one lead…

Thank you for the comment, paulc.

    Crossed fingers...

I'm already struggling with severe damage to the board but love the challenges...
