Eng Refresh, Health Check, Prep. 01

Rate this Entry

Started to work on another NSX from last week.
The service menu is the Eng Refresh + LMA, Koyo radiator, Health Check,
drive shaft, etc.

As same for everyone, around this time of the year, the owner was
so busy that he decided to use flatbed service to bring his NSX to
my place.
On arrival, noticed lots of mud on the tyre as well as inside the wheel arch
so after the test driving session, decided to give it a good wash before
wrapping the car in preparation for taking the engine out.

During the test driving session, noticed fairly loud wind noise from
around upper section of the driver side door glass.
The Targa weatherstrip looked to be fine so probably related to the
glass alignment.

The coolant temperature gauge was sitting just at the edge of the
lower side of the horizontal marker.
For most of the NSX, the needle will sit at the one marker below the
horizontal line so it was interesting to see something new on this NSX but
it stayed there forever regardless of whether the car was in cruising session,
hard acceleration or heat soaked after test driving so not a problem.

As reported to the owner previously, the steering wheel was pointing
tiny bit towards the right even after the alignment service.
Rear tyres were almost at their wear limit with uneven wear so please replace
them in the near future.
Before going out for the test driving session, the tyre pressure was
pumped up to 40/33psi as it was fairly cold.

As same as other NSX, the release bearing or the shaft bearing was
quite noisy at idle rpm in neutral and it will disappear if you press on
the CL pedal.
Should be replaced at the time of next CL service.
CL itself is still fine with no slip at all.

There was neither light bulb nor clear cover at the boot light housing.

Struggled to operate the security remote fob several times.
Even pressing the button, there was no LED indicator but after tried it
several times, the bright red LED showed up so don’t think the
remote battery was low.
More like bad contact below the switch.

The oil cooler looked to be OK for the time being but showing lots of rust
at the top section.
Will take better photo once the engine is out.

The CCU cabin temperature looked to be cleaned in the past but
already making annoying noise.
This means that there is no filter at the entrance of the blower motor fan
and probably the evaporator fins are covered in lots of uncomfortable debris
by now.

Couldn’t open the fuel filler door when it was very cold outside.
Door alignment issue.

The coolant level was at the MIN level.
There was tiny sign of seepage at the lower section of the radiator.
The fins were also smashed a lot by the debris.
The WP was still the old original design so no idea how the bearing
is surviving.
We are going to replace the radiator and the WP any way this time.

Looked to be new leakage of A/C gas from the left condenser fitting.

Drive shaft is leaking the grease but we are going to refurbish/replace both sides this time.

Didn't like the way the O2 sensor extension cable was routed so going to re-route it
differently this time.
The rear bank O2 sensor cable was overstretched so will require re-routing as well.

As reported to the owner previously, there were lots of hairline crack
at the rear mount.
It’s not cutting through yet but something to be replaced in the future.
It can be done without removing too many things so not a big deal.
Will inspect other mounts once the engine is out.

The eng bay was covered in dust, leaves, oil, etc.
Looking forward to washing it.
