Started to work on another NSX.
The service menu is Health Check, brake OH, cooling system OH, alignment, etc.

On arrival, I noticed that the front tyres were very old.
Probably from 1997 ??? 16 years old....
Already tiny cracks were emerging at the tread and later, it was not fun test driving it especially
when I had to exercise the ABS.

The tyre wear was not even at all.
FR side showed much more wear than the FL one.

The alignment is done at the static condition and it is the angle against the
virtual centre/reference line/plane so the tyre won’t affect it unless there is
huge difference between the R & L tyre condition.
However, I don’t see much point in doing the alignment now when the owner has to
replace both front tyres in the near future.
With this amount of wear imbalance, even with the correct alignment,
the side slip won’t be even so as soon as the tyre starts rotating,
the car will pull to one side.
Based on my experience, even knowing that the tyre condition won’t change the
static alignment, my golden rule is to carry out the alignment in the condition on
how the car is going to be driven.

The owner mentioned that he didn’t like the play at the TH pedal.
When I pressed it with my finger, there was very little resistance at the initial stroke.
Looking at the TH cable, there was more than 35mm play so adjusted it and
no more huge play at the pedal.
This photo is before the adjustments were made.

While looking at the engine with the owner, noticed that the TH cable bracket was installed
at the wrong position. It was fixed together with the ACG belt cover (left).
Before going out for the test driving session, installed it properly (right).

Also, for some reason, the A/C belt tension adjuster was maxed out.
Will look into it while replacing the crank pulley.

As same as the last NSX that I serviced, the FCU (Fan Control Unit) was faulty.
Even when the engine was still cold and not even started, the radiator and engine bay fan
were operating at max speed.
You can hear the loud fan noise in the background.

Not the first time to see this and I’m quite sure there are still several NSX using the very old tyres so won’t be the last one......

After 3 years, the tyre will significantly loose its initial performance and although there are so many factors to be considered and can’t judge by just the age, I won’t use any tyres over 8 – 10 years old.....
