Door Window Refresh 01

Rate this Entry
After recovering from my recent injury, started to work on the NSX again slowly as it requires very delicate touch.
Once again, it’s time to deal with the door window alignment.
Although I worked on this NSX in the past, I didn’t like the way the old and tired door sashes were sitting against the new weatherstrip, outer molding, etc so wanted to replace the sashes before the new parts took set.

On arrival, I noticed that the voltage indicator at the dash was showing below or just about 14V depending on the condition even when the engine was running. Normally, it should show above 14V.
As the battery was fairly new, the cranking speed was very fast and no continuous voltage drop when the rear defogger was switched on, the ACG charging circuit was fine and felt that the gauge was not showing the correct reading. In fact, it was showing about 0.6V lower figure compared to the actual voltage.

I recommended the owner to replace the upper windshield molding while replacing the door sash and glass alignment as it was not installed properly and looked very tired and old.

It was even cut short by someone and then shrunk.

As always, the two parts are not expensive but preparation takes ages especially when dealing with this sticky tape residue. In fact, looks like someone already visited this area in the past as I can see so many scratch markings. Probably tried to clean the excess windshield sealant or the old glue of the upper molding.

Always use plastic scraper and not the metal one to prevent such sharp markings.

I was really pleased with how well the butyl tape stayed on the door panel as well as the inner protection sheet behind the door card.
However, because of its characteristic, it was really tough trying to remove the butyl tape without damaging the vinyl sheet especially with difficulty with my right hand and finger.

Finally, both doors are ready for the refresh.
