After turning up last year only to be turned away into the general car park by some jumped up twit, I won't be bothering. Goodwood have gone too far up their own* arses with this and their other events... :(

* And certain other serial-hypercar owners'

They turned you away in your NSX? WTF.

Not been to Supercar Sunday before, looking forward to this year.

I thought the same. Almost as bad as putting the wrong year on your post!

Not been to Supercar Sunday before, looking forward to this year.

"We've got enough of these already" - and his attitude stank. There were 3 NSX's already inside when we walked in, vs >>10 911s, >>10 Ferraris, ~10 Elises/Exiges (on Supercar Sunday?!? Lot of Lotuses actually - club day out?) and a good handful of "non-supercars" - RX8s, Monaros, Focus RS, Escort RS, Boxsters, BMW 1-coupe, etc. etc.

I tried speaking to a chap wearing a blazer and panama and holding a clipboard, thinking I may get some sense. He wasn't interested at all, even though I'd pre-registered my car - "Unless your car is on MY list I'm not interested" (his list was specifically-invited uber-exotica). 2 minutes later this same condescending man fawned over some clearly rich chap who'd brought the Agera, 599GTO and one other machine down (Peter someone). Sums the place up IMHO...all about the money!

You mean Peter Saywell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9I7V_o0-yM&feature=related

And the other machine is the stunning Zonda PS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSFgR4g_YTs

I'd rather the chance to see these 3 rare cars than rows of 911's, 360's or NSX's ... and I suspect that is what the organisers were thinking too. YEs Peter is a rich chap, but at least he's prepared to bring his toys out for us to appreciate rather than cover them in satin and leave them in a heated barn somewhere.

With regard to be turned away, probably luck of the draw ... next time get up a bit earlier :)

Indeed. Even arriving early doesn't guarantee entry, as the guy on the front gate or the first marshall within doesn't always know his arse from his elbow. One time, I turned into the circuit then got waved into the spectators car park on the right, rather than going towards the pit lane on the left... and the car in front of me was a Ford RS200. I also saw a 911 GT2 wearing Porsche UK press demo plates (911 HUL) get waved into the spectator car park (guy probably thinking any old 911 is just another 911, then immediately waving through a line of Aston Vantages...)

I have sympathies with both views & I believe the breakfast club, most especially the Supercar Sunday, have outgrown the original concept. It is just too popular for its own good, and this leads to people like Havoc becoming very frustrated with the whole event.

A year or so ago they seemed to recognise the problem, and introduced the facility to pre-register cars, however this seems to make diddly-squat difference to the organisation on the day.

As for getting there early, the organisers actively discourage arrival before 'gates open'. Many people of course ignore this, resulting in long queues waiting to gain access to the track/paddock areas, both of which are 'slow entry' areas, adding to peoples frustration, and encouraging stewards to send 'worthy' cars off to the public car parks just to relieve congestion a little. If it is a nice morning this year, I predict more chaos than ever before, which will be the catalyst for a major re-think of the whole concept.

911 PUK would make more sense!

I was there at 8 and also turned away - the issue is that there are too many turning up early and the traffic system can't cope - put simply the event is too popular for it's own good. I spoke to GRRC about this - they arn't interested, so long as lots of people turn up and buy their over priced "organic" breakfasts they don't see the problem. It just means I wont bother to leave home before 6am to go park in a field.

For those that do go however I agree it is a great place to get up close and personal to a lot of nice shiney metal.

We got there just before Mike - ~7.50am at the gates, having left home at 5.30am in order to pick a friend up en-route.

If they're not prepared to run it properly (both by letting non-themed cars into the paddock and by ignoring pre-registrations as mentioned above), then I can't be arsed...as with Gaydon's Supercar Sunday, they're more bothered about the spectators than the owners*. So if it is just a mix of first-come, first-served and pot-luck, then they're only going to get the same bunch from the SE of the country each time, as people like me from further afield just aren't going to make the effort...5.30am isn't pleasant, esp. on a weekend!

This, to me, is the crux/hypocrisy of it - if the event WAS just 3-dozen uber-exotica lined up, would people still come?!? They need "other owners" to make the event properly rounded, yet make no attempt to encourage those owners, and indeed treat them in an entirely inconsistent and unpredictable manner...Lord March MAY still be a true petrolhead, but some of his staff clearly aren't...

* And I agree with your comments about PS, Paul - I'd rather see his metal and I appreciate the sort of person who takes the time to show it off...I was disgusted with the 'official' whose attitude towards me was of complete disinterest yet whose attitude towards PS was fawning, arse-kissing subservience!

It would - but it's 911 HUL I was thinking of... :)

I think the pre-registration is there to give them an idea of numbers, rather than any kind of promise of entry. I think it would be a good idea to force pre-registration on the Supercar Sunday - ie you fill in the registration form, and assuming you get approved as an attendee, you get emailed a banner to print out, a bit like entry to Japfest. I'm sure it's been suggested before to the organisers, but you never know, might be worth an email :)

As it 'appens, there's a fairly easily recognised car on the Registration page - http://www.goodwood.co.uk/breakfast-club/registration.aspx - taken on a Soft Top Sunday :)

First GWBC meeting tomorrow morning......when will the first NSX become 'Tax Free'? Is is after 25 years?

EDIT: Scrub that Googled...Anything before 01.01.1973 is tax exempt. Labour kiboshed the rolling 25 year scheme a while back.

Even more chaotic than normal getting in this morning apparently. They have some lovely cars turn up to these, but I couldn't generate enough enthusiasm for the long journey with bad weather and problems getting in to stand in a carpark for a couple of hours....

Funnily enough I didn't bother either today. Would far rather go to a PH SS, that Caring with Cars event later this month, or the S'stone Classic - events that are actually organised.

Talking of which, hope to see some of you guys at one of those...and apologies for failing to make yet another Japfest - my excuse is I'll be in Scotland!

Sarah and i went down, optimistic that the weather reports were correct... they weren't! dry.. hardly!!!

anyway set off early, got to the end of the queue at 8.09... eventually got in the gate at 8.56!! the queue was horrendous, apparently because the usual public parking was too wet to use. we got directed to the public car park :(, but the main one just outside the track, the others were being sent out to park on lavant straight! a bloody long walk for them!

anyway, walking round the cars, it was busy in the paddock, and the straight, TBH not that much room inside anyway, tho the straight was only being used up to the end of the pits, not out to magwick like previous times. bored of seeing porches, ferraris and lambos! tho you had to feel sorry/admire the convertable drivers with no roofs! on a plus note there was a charlotte (the classiest colour) popup in the paddock, Hi Martin, and a red popup with DRL additions and seats tweaked with a touch of red!

the highlight for me was the brace of 5 jaguar XJ220's parked up together!

had the obligatory overpriced bacon bun, got thoroughly wet and cold so we were on the way out by 10!!! well would have been had everyone else not been leaving, so we were in a queue again!!!

after that we had a nice drive out, following the coast to hastings!!!! 230 miles today, and I bet i still don't get on the 'spotted thread'....

Hi Britlude,

For the record I let you go at the roundabout (Rolls Royce end of Goodwood) I didn't wave as I wasn't in the NSX. I was behind you as you got directed to the car park :-( you seemed to be the only one directed in there, so must be special! We ended up 2/3 way down the Lavant straight, any further and I would have been home! took us 15 mins walk to get to main start area, couple that with the hour it took to travel between the two main roundabouts (less than 1 mile) to get in it's fair to say it was a nightmare. Still the 20 mile journey home didn't seem so bad. Went to the Areo club for my sausage baguette, bargain £3.40 :-).....

The XJ220's did look pretty cool, sound far better than I remember..

So you were spotted, hopefully see you next week.

Cheers
PG

i'll have to remember that.... the bacon and egg roll and sausage in a bun from the chuck wagon in the paddock were £5 and £5.70 respectively, £10.70 the serving monkey asks for, just as he types a £5 refund into the till.... hmmm wonder where the various extra £5's in the til went at the end of the day....

woohoo spotted!!!!

I have checked the details for the breakfast club this Sunday and it is European 'Continental Classics' so we are excluded with our NSX's I am afraid. Another event where they want a raft of Ferraris etc no doubt

Yes, it's not a Breakfast Club day where our cars fit the theme but it's just an excuse for a mini meet. I'll still go if my car is back together.

If it's not raining I might borrow a Jag and see if I can get in.
