View Full Version : Is your NSX stock?

AR

Just curious how many NSX are 100% stock and of those modded how far have you gone.

Cheers,

AR

I had to vote 'no' but Y1 is pretty damned close.

Alterations from 'bone stock' are:

OEM type R engine cover.

Silver/grey side indicator covers

Dali water reservoir tank.

And that is it.

So pretty close really (and all reversible).

I think the majority of owners will have fiddled with something on this car. I would consider my car almost stock but have done the following

changed to Type R steering
replaced exhaust back box
Removed stereo (original was removed anyway before me)
added mesh engine vents
wheels have been resprayed black ( done before me)
removed aerial, and fog lights

so all in all not too far away from stock, but still i had to vote NO

britlude

fiddling wouldn't be so much of an issue if the aftermarket hop-up items weren't so much cheaper than the oem stuff!!!

saying that, i've got...

stainless headers.......................... performance cars should NOT have cast iron manifolds, especially 'all aluminium' ones
17/18 inch 3 piece split-rim wheels.. 15/16 are teeny tiny!
home brew exhaust....................... because i can
aftermarket head unit.................... i haven't got any C90 cassettes
flushed aerial............................... looks so much better
coloured centre console/switch surrounds... oem covering bubbled
smoked side marker indicators......... it's a dark car, orange was just too garish
aluminium race rad........................ straight economics

add......................... braided hoses... forgot those! a set owned by at least 2 other NSX owners, but never fitted!!!!
another add.............. HIDs

Slightly not:-

- Replica Type-R spoiler
- CF & Lexan engine-bay cover
- Braided brake hoses

Am toying with some different exhaust manifolds if I get some spare cash, otherwise not a lot I'd change (maybe the upgraded ABS system?).

Well not bone stock but the changes are limited to an aftermarket exhaust and brake pads.

You boys should have started by buying the right model in the first place ;)

however considered list below not to be true mods, but optional improvement as parts needed replacing
grooved disks and RS pads
aftermarket SS exhaust
Wheel colour changed to powder coated silver on black
will be doing HID conversion on dipped beam.

It's a no vote but only just.

SS brake hoses
HID dipped beams
iPod interface

I think you are right about the exhaust manifolds. Those cast iron things offend me and I sometimes think about changing them. Would somebody like to make and market those in the UK?

Cheers

Do non oem tyres count as a mod?
Anyway, I have headers and back box, long life airfilter, clutch damper delete* and a usa spec iPod widget.

*braided hose failed on me today, leaving me clutchless at the roadside..

Was this the SoS braided hose? Or something else? Can you elaborate on what exactly happened to the hose or was it the mounting block etc.

It was not the new one, it's the old one in this thread:
http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/showthread.php?6737-Clutch-Fluid-Change/page2
I'll get the other SOS one on order I think, as I no longer have the damper.

Edit:I'd forgotten where I got it, don't blame anyone. These things just happen from time to time.

Not much upgrades just yet:

- SoS intake tube + K&N filter (gives a great induction sound)
- 3rd brake light in oem spoiler (oem one but not an original part for 1997 one)
- Prototype JBT 330 front brake kit (going to released soon, love them!)
- 17 / 18 Work Emotion wheels with Bridgestone tires.

Underway:

- Exhaust, Pride V2 with titanium tips(but i'm debating the Titanium in the sales section, so if somebody is interested in the pride..)
- Momo Alcantara steering wheel with Sos hub adapter (to retain cruise control)

On the list:

- Coilovers, debating KW V3's or a custom made Intrax Racing set
- Seats (either lowering the position on stock seats with thinner cushion or getting a set of recaro's

Oh...there goes another rib!

Mr Senninha. I thought everyone agreed some time ago that red was THE colour and that every other colour wanted to be red. A bit like there are two types of people in this world....1) Scots and 2) Those who want to be scots

Maybe we shoud have a vote about colours?

They look like recaro pole position or something along these lines, OEM NSX-R seats/type S are smaller and shaped differently

Had one of the Recaro guys in our offices yesterday - he'd spent some time out in Japan and (for a German) was a real fan of *** metal. Talking to him about the 'teg and NSX, and his oppo in our office suggested I could get a set of NSX-R Recaros cheap from him...he said no chance on the -R seats, they were limited edition and the components/parts were closely tracked!

I thought its been mentioned here somewhere, that you can only
buy substantial NSX Type R parts with a chassis number. I would
think seats are classed as substantial, since aren't they around £15K
or more for a pair? Things like gear knobs etc are small enough.

as Lings list standard ones at £9k+, i suspect they are significantly more over-priced than that!!!

Well Audi charges £4,250 plus vat (per seat) for the Recaro seats fitted to the RS4, this is a mass produced seat, so £13K for the NSX seats would seem to be about right. How much do you think Ferrari and Lamborghini charge for theirs?
