A few little updates!

I gave the car a coat of Dodo juice Supernatural last night and seeing as it was such a nice day, I decided to take a few sneaky pics.

I've just had the roof and pillars vinyl wrapped in laminated black.

I wanted to see what it would look like as I'm considering having them permanently painted and at least if I don't like it with the vinyl I can take it off again.

Opinions welcome!

These are the first pictures I have of the car with the wheels refurbed also.

The eagle eyed of you may also notice that I managed to make the proper size number plate for the rear.

Here are two pictures taken at similar angles, one with red roof, one with black.

Not able to see all of your excellent photos at present , however your car looks magnificent with the black roof especially with those newly refurbed wheels, very shiney too,

Great job .

Awesome shine.

Like the black. Didn't think I would but suits the facelift IMHO.

Very nice.

I like the black roof a lot.
What's always bugged me about the colour coded models is where the pillar meets the black door handle, just looks wrong to me.
Makes the car look lower too.

Awesome pics and great looking car, for me Black / Red gets my vote, sometimes hard to say why, but it just seems to work so well.

Looks great. Have you thought about doing the mirrors?

Cheers,

Looks good with the black roof, very sleek.
If you are happy with the finish of the vinyl I would leave it on, one it protects the paint and two, if you ever do sell it, it is still oem underneath!

Just let me know when your selling!

Good experiment, much better than painting it then hating the result. The problem with the wrap is that you will never get anything like the depth of shine like proper paint so think of it as a temporary measure.

Sorry to be a descenter but I much prefer the single body colour. The black roof looks OK but kind of retro. The later cars particularly the facelifts look more modern in solid colour.

I'd stick with the wrap for a while until you decide you love it or the novelty wears off then either remove it for paint or leave red.

Cheers

What's so good about looking more modern? It's "of it's era", like an F40 or Countach.
If you try and make it match current trends you always end up chasing the next part of the design the doesn't fit.
Here's to high profile tyres and orange indicators.

You'll have us all reverting to our cassette players next :)

I'm with you on the orange indicator lenses though, soo much nicer than anodyne clear ones. Lexus has a lot to answer for with that unfortunate trend :(

I agree with you, that car looks good in that colour scheme, but it's a very different profile to the NSX.I prefere the facelifted cars in one colour.

Call me old fashion, but one colour body & orange indicators for me too! Just a OEM type of guy! :D

The black roof does make it look a little more dated, but for me that is how the NSX looks - so my personal taste prefers the black roof (and it does make it look lower).

I had never really thought about it before, but at what stage did Honda start producing the NSX in a single body colour?

Was it always an option - I can't recall seeing any early cars in single colour?

Y1 is a single colour....I don't recall seeing many other pre-facelift cars finished like this (though there was an all red car for sale in the Midlands 4 or 5 years ago, about the time I was looking around)

Gratuitous photo opportunity......

That might have been T1 NSX which was a red NA2 previously owned and written off by a chap called Clive occasionally on here! It was sold subsequent to his £30K+ repair bill - and was at a performance car garage near Hagley about 4 years ago!

All T's are body coloured for a start. My old 2000, with pop-ups was, I was lead to believe, the only 1999 onwards NA2 with a black roof and had to be specced that way from the factory. Not sure if that is true but ?I havent seen another post '98 with a black roof so may be...

Weren't all autos and targas single colour?

I think the black roof became an option rather than standard with th NA2 coupés in late 1997 and most late pop-ups are single colour.

W.R.T the 599GTO, I've never been a fan of the 599 shape and the to my eyes the black roof doesn't help it... Love those wheels though :) IMHO black roofs on front engined coupés make them look like convertibles with the roof up. The rear window of the NSX helps it avoid that particular look :)

Single colour cars were available from day one.
The only problem was that you had to buy a black one....

I nearly bought a black one, one of the more acceptable colours IMHO.

Not all T-tops were body coloured.I had a 96 T-top and it had a sort of black vinyl roof on it which was a factory option

TQO, I thought T1 NSX was owned by Ary?

Red cars looks Rad. From the front it suits red roof. But from the side and the rear the black roof suits it more. So either way still a stunning car.

Do the mirrors too

From my understanding,

All 1991 to 2001 coupes were "two tone"

Targas had body colored top half; but the "targa" section itself, came in black and was painted to body color by most dealers/owners

2002 onwards cars were all body colored [apart from NSX-R]

transmission type had nothing to do with body color.

According to http://www.nsxprime.com/wiki/Changes_by_Year

1995
Roofs now all body colored

1997
Coupes can be special ordered with either a black top or a body color top; -Ts still have body colored roofs

Although of course the US market was different and looks like coupes were dropped from 1995 and then special order afterwards? I Don't know if this info bares any similarities to the UK

My old 2000 MY car was "one tone"

IIRC the change was 1999 not 2001, but I stand to be corrected.

My 1999 is one colour tone if that helps? So does this mean it was special order?

Sudesh

Well that really throws it all up in the air lol

I have seen late coupes with back roof and some with colored roofs; I guess at some stage it may have been an option or "no cost option"?

"Nick Graves" NSX is a late 2000 model, and has black roof. I almost sure I have pics in my archive of 2001 cars with black also.

This a polular debate amongst Forum members. My vote is for the two colour. I think the original NSX concept of a black roof to echo the fighter plane cockpit still works. The photo on the cover the Brian Long NSX book is the definitive NSX look which I was originally attracted to.

Just my 2p worth

Nope.As i said earlier it actually feels different to normal paintwork,it feels like an old style vinyl roof, whereas the one colour cars look like a coupe.
