Just been itching to find out which one of my cars would be quicker? So been for test run with a close friend who drove the NSX and I drove the Porsche.Well after 40 miles of putting are foot down my conclusion is, if the Porsche did not have a turbo and tweeked up to 400bhp then the NSX would have nailed the Porsche.I cant believe how close it kept up with the Porsche,and Richard Hammond slated the NSX,can not understand how he came up with this conclusion!

Bang on the head, probably!

It's one of those things; Porsche fanatics won't be told and nor will Honda ones.

Personally, that whooshing sound is the 911 going right over my head. Unlike most of the test reports, I find the NSX superior in very department, apart from the rear accommodation. Especially that intangible 'sense of occasion' one.

You have to have a large power differential to notice a big difference.

Before we all get carreid away my Porsche is a 1991 3.3t. If I was to test it against the same year car say a 996tt ( ive owned one for 3years now sold )the difference would be heaven and earth,but if you put it up against say a carrera 2 or 4 in the same year ,then NSX all the way.I still cant get my head around how well balanced this NSX is,so after ive taken my dogs out were off again to test them again but this time i wll drive the NSX and my friend will take the Porsche.Oh by the way its not a bad looker in youre rear view mirror!

I tested a C4 more-or-less back to back with an NSX.

Main problem was the C4 only came alive when thrashed. If the same were true of a 996/7TT, you'd probably get Rodney Kinged for it.

The 996 is quicker than the NSX according to contemporary road tests. I concur with these findings after encountering one on a private road.

Depends what flavour, the roads I drive and VMAX showed me different......... (except a 996T/GT3)

Yes, IIRC it was quicker even then (on a track)

I meant the 996. It was around 2 seconds quicker to the ton.

Indeed, even the original 3.4Ltr 996 (300hp) when tested by the mags ran quicker than the 3.2Ltr NSX. The later 3.6Ltr (320hp) version was quicker again and the 996 GT3's are even quicker. The differences are small and I'm not knocking our NSX but we shouldn't get carried away with ourselves.

An E280 CDI did a very good job of not going backwards between 40 and 80 with the NSX in 3rd gear - it only started to lose ground above 7,000rpm.

That was the Top Gear magazine article. The Porsche they used was not a 996, it was a 993 C2S which A) was never the best NA 993 variant and B) they felt there was something amiss with the particular car they had.

A good 993 C2 would have comfortably lapped under 8m 40secs and a 996 faster than that.

I think the phrase that came to mind when I saw one at VMax was "F*** me, that is quick!" It was keeping up with the E92 M3 for a long way off the line.

Unless the road has curves in it... airfield runways aren't renown for these :)

No contest for me though. Just think of the aural pleasure the 335d driver was reveling in though... none :( Unless he had the window open of course and could drink in the fabulous rumble/wail/thunder of the M3 :)

There's so much more to going fast in a car than JUST going fast.

Oh yes...in Scotland at the weekend I wasn't the fastest car on the road, despite the car having that ability. But I was probably having more fun than anyone except some bikers! :D

Perhaps just loose some weight and add some power. :)

I love it on the local runs, when people climb out of x, y or z cars stressed out and i am just chilling in the NSX with some cool tunes and a cooler AC. :)
