Latest mod - my new steering wheel:

Momo Wheel bought from England, Genuine NSX-R horn button and boss from Japan and Dali horn trim ring from Dali in the US.

All came together rather well!

Looks great Connor! One of my favourite mods on my own car too.

Just waiting now for the OEM horn ring for mine.

Little tip and I can sort that for you, the OEM NSX-R wheel doesnt have the red "tuner" writing. I removed this on mine.

Thanks Kaz, I guess if the original is 5kg, then you saved half in weight as no airbag, cruise control and the large plastic front cover?

I got the same wheel except in silver, with OEM NA2 NSX-R trim ring and button, one of the best mods that can be done to an NSX.

Little update on this -

The hole to the bottom left on the steering column was bugging me and I had been considering getting the NSX-R column cover.

However, I decided to just plug the hole with a rubber blanking grommet, seal it in with an adhesive and trim it to shape.

At least it takes the bad look off the hole.

Ooh - removed the 'Tuner' logo from under the 'Momo' one to give it the authentic look!:

What are you going to do about Momo being off set?, maybe try to ignore it and hope no one points it out? :bigsmile:

No I will remove it too eventually and apply a centered logo.

Done the same thing a few years ago before installing the NSX-R column covers, also removed the Tuner logo back then too.

The momo isnt too badly offset, here's my old wheel I just sold, and the momo logo doesnt look too offset

Difference in the tuner and NSX-R wheel logos are, momo sits much higher up and centred, and there is also the momo wording embossed into the spoke at the bottom.

I think the most difference/benefit is from the reduced diameter rather than weight. Never has 21 mm felt so differant ;) IMHO fitting this wheel made much more of a difference to steering feel etc than the chassis bars.

I went for the gunmetal version and stayed with the matching Momo surround/horn push to match my knob (lovin' innuendos today) and also put it on a quick release boss which also adds an element of extra security :)

Not much difference from the outside compared to the OEM one.

The biggest difference is the 9 fixing holes on OEM one compared to the 6 on the aftermarket ones.

I also thought about replacing the column cover to get rid of the small hole for the cable reel position indicator.
However, at the end, I decided to keep it in order to place small push switch for Cruise control ‘Set’ function.
For everyday car, I love to keep Cruise Control.
Just don’t have time to carry out any works on my car …

Do you have to declare this to your insurer? (changing the cars OEM safety equipment by removing the drivers-side airbag).

Cheers - yeah I had to declare that the driver's airbag was removed.

Just a note on wiring the horn -

I used the Sudesh method of using a scalextric copper braided brush as an electrical contact as these are soft and will not damage the circular brass ring on the hub.

I crimped one into a ringlet terminal and with another overlapping ringlet terminal (with the crimped wire coming from it) I fastened the two together with a self tapping screw on the vacant screw hole to bottom right of the steering wheel.

Here's a diagram I done. Crude, but you get the idea!:

I'm actually going to remove my Hub for inspection this week, just to see how the braided bush has affected the contact plate of the hub. I started out with a hard copper bracket and didnt like it; had it on for a week and it started to make allot of noise, so after some thought the scalextric copper braided brush popped into my head, so I installed that. Been on for close to 3 years now and havent had any problems or noise.

If you want an option without having to worry about pulling apart your old Scalectrix cars you could go for the Taitec hub. The Taitec hub utilises the factory cable reel so connecting up the horn, etc. is easy.
The diameter of the hub shroud is also wide enough to practically cover the hole in the lower steering cover, enough to not need to fill with a grommet.
Negative points are that the Taitec hub is billet aluminium so may weigh slightly more and does not incorporate the 'crushable' construction that the Momo hubs offer in the event of an accident.

Yip! No need to pull any scalextric cars apart, just buy a bag of new brushes on ebay! I also looked at other hubs when fitting fitting my setup, but did like really anything else, the OEM NSX-R one was the way to go, just looks perfect, its neat in size and has the safety feature.

Or cut a couple if inches of aerial coax from your neighbours house, strip the coating, remove the inner plastic core, hold each end of the braided copper part and pull....voila - exactly the same as a scalectric cars brush for nothing. That's how I repaired my scalectric cars when I were a lad. :)

Through sheer paranoia I have installed a little hidden horn kill-switch under the steering column.

The nature of the electrical contact on the NSX-R hub means that the horn could go off if accidental contact is made between 2 parts of the hub.

This is unlikely to happen but if it did, I would have to dismantle the steering column in order break the connection. That sounds simple but is made all the more difficult (not to mention embarrassing) if you're trying to do so in the middle of town with the horn constantly going off!

With Momo wheel and NSX-R hub, most dont bother with cruise anymore. But if you check my thread here, you will see a unique mod I have done for Andrews NSX to retain the cruise for him.

Cool, i'm going to order one.

I have some nice bucket seats i bought for my 300 i never got round to fitting, i've ordered harness bar and rails to fit them in the NSX however with their high sides will make getting in and out a bit of a mission so thought i would order quick release steering wheels also.

This forum is great... just found this thread about the momo wheel.. which i received a couple of weeks a go!.. pleased now that it seems a good choice.

I never thought about the cruise though, the conversion on the link looks amazing!.. might have to book mine in when its back!

Does anyone know where the best lpace to get a hub is though as i was looking at the SoS kit - any thoughts??
