Hi.

Can anyone recommend some sensibly priced limited mileage classic car insurance?

I've just bought an 1991 NSX 3.0 auto. Car has 32k miles, silver, and is a virtually 1 owner car. i bought it from a lovely older gentleman who has only covered 1600 miles in last 4 years. But......... he's had serviced at Crown Motors Bushey and Guy salmon all it's life.

thanks in advance and regards to all

Mike

P.S I'm 52- not a boy racer- anymore!

MikeGreene, another English-Swissy?

I was only down near Nendaz (Verbier) last weekend for the last of the ski season.

Do you live down there, or own a chalet? If you have somewhere, we could seriously get talking about using it as a base for some Swiss road tours.

Thanks for quick response.
Looking forward to playing my new toy next week.

Hi
i have a chalet in Haute Nendaz that my wife and I use a fair amount during the ski season and a bit for walking (!!!!) in summer. I'd been thinking of adding an NSX to my garage for ages and this one popped up last weekend. I think the season ends in Nendaz on 17th April and Verbier the week after.

Mike

Competition Car Insurance was my choice too but one not so good point is that their wind screen excess is £500.

Do you have several vehicles at your disposal?

I insure mine on a "Family Fleet" policy through Clegg Gifford. Speak to Swa (pronounced sway) on 01708 729570.

All 4 of our cars with 2 drivers on 1 policy... simples :) They do want to know who's the main driver of each and how many miles you expect to cover in each but it's a hell of a lot simpler than having 4 separate policies as well as cheaper.

Good to have another mature gentleman among us, we can gang up on the yoofs here with their penchant for widebodies and inappropriate stereos ;)

Cheers

Sorry for the late reply,

Welcome to NSXCB....I use a classic car company called....Hagerty Classic Car Insurance.....they give me a great deal...around £150, 1000 miles, parked on a driveway (if needed) and even insured me when I went to silverstone track last year (Silverstone Classic event)......

tel: 0870 0420220 (I think one of the guys I spoke to was Charles)

Definitely worth a shot....i remeber asking them if i increased to 5000 miles it would cost another £70.

They were very helpful and the staff there all seem to love NSX's :) and know they will be looked after...

Hope this helps,

Andy

Hagerty are good :)

You made a good choice I think...though I have never had to make a claim ( and hope i dont have to) but they seem professional and passionate about cars :)

Hope to see you at an event :)

Andy

A warm welcome to both new owners and we look forward to giving you a proper greeting for the 20th anniversary of the NSX.

Hopefully see you both at Castle Coombe.

And as for Competition Car insurance, I should have taken shares in that company having read this thread

Give Quotelinedirect a try.£268 fully comp.
They quoted me half what Adrian Flux wanted, and thats with me being an Adrian Flux customer for 5 years with 6 years NCB.

They also quoted me half what I was paying for house insurance with Tesco.
Exactly the same cover aswell.

Just renewed insurance with Livingstones Warman but unhappy with the extra increase, so found both Hagerty and Classic Line Insurance to be the most competitive. I know both have been discussed here, so which is best as both are quite similar priced. Going to get more details with both, before committing.

I've not heard of several of the companies listed here. Research reviews on each company before committing as the cover isn't worth the paper it's written on for some of the unknowns.

Don't find out the hard way, stick with reputable insurers to protect your P&J.

I have started cover with Classic Line Insurance. I can't believe I got great premium of £295 with £250 excess, 1500 miles pa & agreed value. This was even better than Hagerty who were the next best. I think someone here has used or mentioned Classic Line before.

Probably wasn't me the first time they were mentioned, but I'm with them and their service over the last year has been very good - almost-certainly just going to renew with them, rather than shop-around.

I'm with Towergate through Adrian Flux for £400 as well.

Mind you, they cannot seem to get the car on the MIA d-base, which means I'm having no success buying the tax online. Buggers!

Talking of insurance, everytime i'm up for renewal i use confused.com to see who's cheapest. All the people i've told to try them have saved plenty of money so may be worth a try.
i was 28 when i bought my NSX and have never paid over £500 for insurance with 4k miles but never driven more than two, wifey's insured too, 25 back then.

I have just signed up to a new insurers Classic Line Insurance and they requested a vehicle valuation on a form they provided or a letter with an official letterhead, carried out or provided by car club official. Has anyone here had to do likewise or give me some suggestions.

Regards James :)

Looks like no one took this one up. Is there no one we can turn to within the NSX world for an evaluation? I've got the same problem with Classic Line. They use the term 'market value' too. Is there enough of a market to judge the price of any car? Would we agree with them?

Part of the problem is this is a web based club only, you are not the first person to have this problem, another common problem is proof of membership. This issue may need more discussion, how about at our Dinner at the end of October :D

I've spoken to ClassicLine about agreed value & evaluation problems since there is no official admin at present(?) and being a relative small car club. I told him that I've contacted auto assessors/valuers in the NW, but they charge about £100 and are basically insurance assessors in accidents and they have rarely provided valuations for modern classics. One of them said he would check the car over and look out our website, Autotrader, PH for an idea, but when he mentioned Glasses guide, I said the prices they quote are not a true reflection of the real market value!

Anyway we decided that I should complete the valuation form accurately and honestly, send him at least 4- 6 or more pictures, plus a photo of the speedo.
