I am after a 2004 3.2 and have a couple of questions I cannot yet find answers to:

1. At 6'4" am I wasting my time?
2. Is there a decent specialist in the SE I could contact for servicing/parts costs?

Thanks.

I hover between 18 to 19.5 depending on training and work schedule. Never a problem, but if you have big legs they will push you up.

Ok, Dali is a manufacturer... Still can't find Kaz.

I guess I will contact my local Honda dealer and get some standard servicing charges from them.

Send a private message to Ary and iam sure he will reply with contact info, Kaz has made plenty of entries on this website but i also still have trouble using search function. You can also find comments on here about Dali or just google him adding NSX. If all else fails you might try this ;)

Lol! My girlfriend likes my size so I'll avoid surgery... ;)

Thanks for the links. That explains it - 'Kaz' is not his username. Excellent. Can't believe how affordable these seems to run after the R8s and GT3s I've been looking at - and they were cheap compared to the GTR or Gallardo. I'm excited - now just need to find a car...

Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately now comes the difficult part. I think from memory there were 14 NSX's sold in 2004 and 12 from 2005 to end of production.

Good luck with the search you will not be dissapointed

Welcome!

I think Lankstarr (Luke) is about 6.4? He has fixed this problem with a modification, but I can't remember what that was? Luke are you around?

Interesting comments. I am 6-2 and while the seat and driving postion is perfect - the most comfortable seat I have ever been in - I barely squeeze in under the roof without shaving my head. Is the Dali lowered seat cushion worth getting?

Cheers,

David

Is there a registry of later cars - say 2002 onwards as that's the shape I want? I guess a large fraction of those owners frequent these pages.

It is really a case of keeping your ear to the ground here and pistonheads auto trader etc. until one comes up. If you are not too choosy on colour or coupe v targa then its just a waiting game. There have been 3 or 4 2002 onwards cars sold or advertised in the last few months

Your options are;
1. Buy a lower seat cushion from the shark across the pond.
2. Get a vehicle trimmer to make you a lower seat cushion up.
3. Or if you want maximum headroom and the possibility of getting a skid lid on your head for a track day you can fit new lower & lighter seats.

Normally when I am interested in a particular model of car I go and test drive a dealer's car so as not to waste a private seller's time and fuel. Somehow I think I could wait for months before I see a decent 2002-2005 car for sale from a dealer somewhere in the SE. The point: is there anyone within a reasonable distance of Essex willing to at least take me out in their car and let me sit in the driver's seat? I need to know i am lusting after the correct car for me.

Hi Niall,

I am based near Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk and you are very welcome to try my car for size... and if you really like it you might be able to prise it off me!
I did advertise it on Pistonheads a short while ago and thought I had sold it within 3 days but the guy pulled out, having paid a small deposit. Mine is a red 2003 completely standard car with only 24,000 miles by two mature owners - I've owned it for the past 3 1/2 years and only possibly selling because I use it so little.
Anyway, if you would like a chat or to arrange a visit send me a pm with your contact details.

Cheers,

Baz

You have to remove the normal seat cushion to put this in. It is only a piece of foam with some covering it. I have used the seat with the cushion removed on track with no other padding, and it was fine. If you don't want to cut and remove your seat cushion, possibly snapping clips in the process, buy a racing seat.

I don't know if your question was aimed at my seats or not. But mine bolted straight in once I made custom mounts for them!

I am 6'4" too. The EVO was a fine fit for me, but the 'larger' gentleman, would find them tight. There is an EVO II, which is wider, but I reckon on those having trouble fitting in the car.

You can either buy seat mounts from the NSX vendors, or go to a metal workshop, someone who can bend and weld. Or even a motorsports centre. By that I mean a shop that prepares race cars, not someone who sells 'tuning products', and get them to make a base mount, which you can attach side mounts to.

But deep bucket seats like these need harnesses to be safe.

Coming late to this discussion, but I'd just say - if you're v tall then you can pretty much forget about a Targa unless you change the seat. I'm 6'1" and can fit in just fine, but Luke wouldn't be able to drive my car without taking the roof off ;)

I sat in Baz's 2002 coupe today and it was very marginal. I could certainly have driven it, even at my height, but an inch or maybe two lower would have been ideal. Don't think I would want a targa in anycase...

NiallNSX

Can anyone tell me how much lower you sit with the Dali cushion thing? Also, how reversable is the proceedure? I'm thinking I might be better off getting an upholsterer to do the job professionally but how many inches lower are possible with the standard seat. Ideally I need to find 2".

Curious about this too. Dali quoted a price of around $250 for their lowered seat describing it as a "piece of hard foam coverer in leather that looks like the OEM leaher". Their "OEM" ones are made from an actual NSX cushion but cost $600+ which even Dali say is a tad ridiculous.

Has anyone any experience of either of these for everyday use? The existing cushion is very comfortable it is just that like others, at my height my head grazes the roof unless I put the squab well back.

I would prefer to avoid the replacement seat option.

Thanks,

David

I answered my question:

http://daliracing.com/v666-5/catalog/index_browse_part.cfm?focus=2569

Seems 2 inches is exactly what you get. Now, like NSX100 above, I'm wondering how comfortable they are and how secure.

If I went with an aftermarket seat I think it would have to be height adjustable so my girlfriend could still see over the wheel. Is such a thing possible without spending £000s?

Yes by having two cushions! The recaro ones I have standard are OK for most people, I had a memory foam insert and is literally almost on the floor for me.

So, is this "memory foam insert" the Dali seat or from another source? If the latter, from where and how comfortable is it for normal driving compared with the OEM cushion?

Thanks,

David

Is the cushion not physically attached to the seat then? Your answer suggests you mean swapping cushions between drivers??

All recaro racing shell cushions ( even the NSX-R ) are held in place by Velcro.

Thanks

If you are talking about OEM seats Dali is your option, I have never used or know the quality of it.

If we are talking about Recaro just get an extra foam insert made up or buy some 1 inch memory foam from ebay or...make both inserts and swap them out. Simply open the cushion ( velcro ) take the OEM out put your new one in.

If in the future a shorter person want to drive the car they can always use the cushions from the passenger seat.

Cheers,

AR
