...because Honda UK are useless!

1) What is the replacement recommended tyre for a 1996 NSX now the RE010 has been discontinued? "We wouldn't advise there - you're best speaking to your local dealership"

2) Have you got a list of NSX-specialist dealerships? "No" Followed later on by "we've got an old list" when I pressed and said they must have done as they recommended certain dealerships when the car was current!

3) What is the closest dealership to me (Midlands) that WAS registered as an NSX-specialist? "Lowestoft"

I tell you - if it wasn't for this place and 'Prime (and Kaz/Sudesh, naturally), how the hell would us owners* get anywhere?!?

* Oops...getting ahead of myself there! ;)

I rang for a dealer near me with NSX tech. They gave me the address of a bike dealership!

Clearly not set up in Customer Service for our specialist kit. Sent a great marque to Silverstone though!

As I posted somewhere else, get yourself a factory manual and read it, then read it again, then read it again.

If I was NSX buying and the owner knew what he was talking about and he did his own oil changes and filter changes using OEM stuff and good lubricants I would be more inclined to buy it than someone who wrings the cra's neck and gets and oil change once a year!

Thats nothing! You should see how bad it is here, and worse in southern ireland! Just ask ED, the dealers in Sothern Ireland more or less told him they dont want to deal with this type of car!!! Even when it came to ordering parts it was hassle. And with southern ireland being in really hard times, I dont understand how they can turn away customers like that.

When I had ED's car in for wprk a few weeks back, I was going to order the coolant hose kit from Honda here. First they needed me to tell them all the part numbers and how many hoses and were they were!! Then they told me it could be a month to 2 months delivery??? Go figure!

This is something I don't understand about Honda, why do they treat us with so little care. As soon as your Jag turns 3 years old you get an automatic discount on parts and service plus IIRC once your car is 10 or 15 years old they run a classic parts scheme, so you should always be able to get a part for your Jag no matter how old!

I do wonder if this is a Honda UK thing because talking to the chair persons of both the US and Japan NSX Clubs they got great support!

Definitely.

The S2000 club has exactly the same problem with HUK, while s2ki in the USA seems to have a much better relationship with Honda USA.

HUK seem to be taking the same attitude as Porsche GB - "customers are too much hassle to keep happy, esp. 2nd-hand customers who aren't buying their cars directly from us!" Real shame, as this will be my 5th Honda, but probably my last.

Feeling the same way here.

When recently adding an extra fuse to the engine room fuse box I decide to get Honda OEM fuse retaining screws. They were almost 3 quid each! Everytime I get service parts and some not so commonly changed service parts that I need in a rush I get them from my local dealer. The parts guy is great and knowledable, but sometimes he feels embarassed to tell me the prices.

One need bungee cord braces and loose trousers when buying HUK parts so that when they are done pulling your pants down they come back up!

I don't think that this problem is restricted to Honda only.

We once took our Toyota Supra up to the main Toyota dealer in Lincoln as we need to get a new key for the Aerotop. What was frightening was when the sales guys came out and said "Nice Car mate, what is it?"

Now I know that the car is slightly modified but it does still look like a Supra and has the toyota badge on the front and back.

I go to Honda in Cannock. They are an NSX dealer and always found them to be friendly, knowledgable.

To be fair as a percentage of sales to Honda the NSX is minuscule. There is no replacement on the horizon and if you buy this sort of kit you are unlikely to knock on their door at the moment.

The dealers themselves are not that bad in my experience, it was the help line in London that was clueless.

But would you train your people for a total of 400 cars in a couple of million sales that was discontinued 4 years ago? And from what I hear here when they were still selling them they did not try that hard.

Thank goodness for this site as the thread states.....

My experience of buying parts from HUK is much the same as you guys. They're always prohibitively expensive and there's rarely a good reason.
£108 for park plugs, £400 for a water pump, £64 for driveshaft gaiter bands!!! Totally rediculous. Offensive really.
As far as expertise goes. Well you can't really expect the dealer network to care about these cars. They're gone and the car industry moves pretty fast. It's the 80/20 thing I suppose.

Cheers,

James.

At the end of the day it is economy of scale. You have to run an inventory worldwide, and then order relatively minimal quantities compared to your normal offerings so can't get the price where it needs to be to cover your costs. The car itself made you a loss or minimal profit. All of a sudden the Halo factor of a supercar in your portfolio doesn't begin to look a good idea.

For a supercar take the overall package and its cheap, £207 for a service? Porsche were charging my dad £480 back in 1981! Here you get the benefit of Honda economies of scale.

Where did you get the factory manual, is it a matter of checking Ebay everyday for a few months, and what would you expect to pay?

They usually go for about $100 US on Prime or Ebay US.
