View Full Version : Check your coolant tanks!

AR

I noticed some greenish deposit around the coolant tank by the fuse box. Upon closer inspection there was a small crack on the coolant tank bottle! Luckily I had a like new replacement from a 2005 sitting on my shelf. Half an hour later and it was all done. Here is a picture of the crack. It was hidden by the NSX-R coolant tank cover and the mounting bracket.

Cheers,

AR

Well spotted! Read quite a few posts about the coolant bottle causing problems and cracking over time. One of those things that worth replacing down the line.

Exactly the same thing happened to me last month. Luckily back in the garage i always pop the engine cover after a drive just to aid engine cooling and i heard a strange hissing noise...like a kettle. Same thing a small crack on the water bottle seam. Thanks to my friend for getting me a new one cheap. You know who you are.

My went two yrs ago, leaked around the top brass pipe that the rubber host fits onto. Fortunately the replacement was cheap by Honda standards!

Two Mills Chester quoted me 187 pounds a couple of weeks ago. I choose to decline their kind offer and a tuning shop here in Brunei got me an OEM tank from Japan for 100 pounds including postage and 20% import duty.

Cheers,

Thanks....I see they are about $90 in the USA. Shame Ray Laks shipping prices to the UK are so crazy....will have to take another trip across the pond...

In my experience Ray Laks prices are slightly cheaper than that other US vendor who shall not be named.

FYI Expansion Tank part number is: 19101-PR7-A02

I also got my from Dali with no probs, but that was nearly two years ago before the more recent problems. Have you tried SOS, Vtec Direct here or maybe Dirk ( he doesnt post much these days after personal problems)?

Hi Martin, I have to say I have bought a couple of time from Dali with no problems at all, I'm just basing that on the last group buy that has BIG problems!!

I thought they only cracked when exposed to sunlight ... that cant possibly be the reason yours failed as it would have to be out of the garage

Will get order in to japan for 6 tomorrow anyway chaps. Hopefully have them in stock ready to ship within a fortnight.
Had a couple of days off to get married, or would have already got order in. Was a great day and had a very nice dutch chap come over with his genuine mint championship white accord type r and act as our wedding car.

i hated that plastic ugly so i ordered this one from a friend

I would be a little concerned about a CF expansion tank tbh. Has it been pressure tested? How are the hose fittings attached? Is there any flexibility as the tank will be hot and cold countless times.
But looks nice.
