One of the heat shields had a rattle and I noticed most of the bolts were done/rusted away.

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSXCHARLOTTE/SAM_1455.jpg
This is not a major issue as most after market systems dont have these heat shields, the owner is going for a new system shortly so as a temp measure I just decided to keep the OEM shield, drill out the old bolts and put in a temp solution

One problem that did get me on this car was the headlight retract on the passenger side. It had a mind of its own lol
Sometime's it would work fine, then when the car was running it would have a delay, then sometimes it would go perfect on the retract switch and then it wouldnt work lol
So I started clearing out the problems from:
1. Fuses
2. Relays
3. Retract Control Unit
4. Retract Switch
5. Circuit test
6. Wiring loom inspection
So last test was the headlight motor, what I noticed after checking the headlight loom was, when passenger side motor was disconnected the drivers side would work perfect every time on any loop.
At this stage I was certain it was the motor. After removing the old motor and opening it for inspection it was clear it had internal damage, it also had allot of moisture build up

The rear boot/trunk I noticed had a slight damp smell, as part of the refresh it was cleared out anyway
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSXCHARLOTTE/SAM_1428.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSXCHARLOTTE/SAM_1429.jpg
With the main centre carpet removed I spotted something that should not be there
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSXCHARLOTTE/SAM_1431.jpg
With rest removed it was clearly visible, there was moisture/water problem

It was quite clear the problem was coming from the stem of the mast, it has corroded away and left a hole
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSXCHARLOTTE/SAM_1435.jpg
So I spoke to the owner and what I done was seal up the the hole as best I could. The owner was never fond of the OEM aerial anyway, so I disconnected it, and installed a hidden antenna.

With my old X-1/9, winky headlights was cured by replacing those three diodes under the cover. We used beefier ones, so they wouldn't get fried again!

I also repaired the damage to the centre console, it was sitting out on the passenger side and the immobiliser led was just taped to the dash
So new led and retaining plug was added
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSXCHARLOTTE/SAM_1474.jpg
The dash was actually missing a parts at the base here

Lucky I had one of these spare so fitted that
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSXCHARLOTTE/SAM_1309-1.jpg
Then reseated the console correctly and now the gap has closed

Paint work was quite dull, front bumper had quite a few chips, missing front spoiler and fog lights were not lined up correctly. After a quick chat with the owner a new spoiler was ordered and decision to remove those ugly dated fogs was made.
So car was washed down
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSXCHARLOTTE/SAM_1471.jpg
Then I used a clay bar, to lift ground in dirt, followed by compound treatment and machine polish and wax. I also done the stone chips a couple of days before doing the detailing, let the paint settle and harden.

There was no keyless entry on the car and Shane was always using his key in the lock, so he wanted a simple setup like mine here: http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/testvb/showthread.php?t=6763
So now he has keyless entry along with the indictors flashing to show when car is open or closed.

I've been working away on Andrews NSX and will upload the complete work when I'm finished. But in the meantime I would like you guys to see this and with Andrews permission, I have attached the pics below.
To make a long story short, the complete AC system was not functioning on the car, compressor is shot, CCU was fried and Andrew had told me about a bad smell coming from it on his journey home after he purchased it.
So while I was working on other items I sent the CCU to Kaz for repair and as always it was returned in tip top condition.
So as a quick test I installed the CCU and immediately I could smell what Andrew was talking about, which was pretty bad to say the least. On removing the blower I was pretty shocked to see this!!

From what I can gather its a fungus that has grown on the evaporator and although you can only see a bit of the evaporator, it has grown on 95% of it. Its also welded on pretty tight and with the fins being so delicate I'm kinda stumped on best method to clean this as obviously to much water and chemical means it will run inside the car. Now I'm not bothered about the carpet getting wet as that will be removed and I can mask off and remove most of the electrics that are near by, but just unsure if air and chemicals will remove this.
Any thoughts?

If it is a fungus than it will hazardous to the lungs and and potentially cause permanent lung damage...aspergillosis!!!
If it can be cleaned off properly..you may have to get a replacement!

I don't see any other possibility than removing and maybe replacing the A/C heater. It's a lot of work but is said to be not very complicated. The dash needs to come out.

An A\C specialist may be the best person to ask. There's got to be a chemical available to neutralise the fungus. Maybe alcohol?

A friend of mine is an A/C specialist, and although he hasnt seen the car yet or a photo, I told him about the evaporator in detail, to which he didnt sound too enthusiastic about, especially the trying to clean it correctly with it still in the car. He does use chemicals/alcohol/air/brushes to clean A/C units but, he was concerned about how deep into the the evaporator the fungus has spread, obviously access to it from the front is quite limited and with it being a fungus he said caution needs to be applied especially if using allot of air so that your not blowing the spores into other parts of the car where it could settle and also as Kare mentioned, its hazardous to the lungs and your health. He reckons the only true method to clean the one in the car is removal and then steeping it for a long period. Also other parts of the system would need cleaned and disinfected too. I obviously have the blower out and removed the motor and turbine thats inside and it all smelled terrible.

Not my car lol! and was hoping there may have been a simpler solution, not just for me but obviously for Andrew as well as its quite a time consuming job with the removal of the dash and all the electrics involved. Andrew is calling to mine today so I'll be showing him the unit and see where to go from there.

Hi, Sudesh.
I’ll touch on the A/C system on this particular NSX later.
Please review it before starting the evaporator service as you may need to take it out any way AND replace other parts as well.
First, about the cleaning of evaporator (evapo).
This level of debris on the evapo is nothing new to some of the NSX based in Japan.
For really dirty evapo, I normally use alloy wheel cleaner which can be used on some of the aluminium.
It dissolves even the metal brake dust so quite powerful chemical. Some people uses the industrial alkaline cleaner but I haven’t tried it in UK.
If you are careful, you can use soft brush in the horizontal movement without damaging any of the fins.
Then, wash it off with warm/hot water using garden sprayer.
I normally repeat above process two or three times before moving on to the next step.
I then spray medial alcohol or even Dettol depending on the availability.
By the end of this process, almost all of the fume is gone. Please make sure to unblock the evapo drain tube before carrying out this process. It can drain significant amount of fluid when the drain is clear so don’t be afraid to spray lots of warm/hot water to rinse off the chemical.
Now, about the A/C system on this NSX.
As there was not much info in your post, I could be wrong but you’ll need to investigate the entire A/C especially, if the compressor was not working for a while.
First, from your photo, it looked as if the evapo fin was covered in green.
Sometimes, digital image won’t show the true colour of actual object but the green colour could be the leak detector added to the A/C gas.
Your friend of A/C specialist should have UV ray light so if you apply it to the evapo and if you get fluorescent green like the photo below, I’m afraid there is no point in cleaning the evapo while it’s inside the car if the leakage was severe.
7073 7074
The bonded debris is actually caused by the A/C oil (not the gas) and it is very sticky material. Even you wash the evapo thoroughly and re-charge the A/C gas, it will end up in the same result if the oil leakage was severe unless you fix the leakage.
You will need to take out the evapo from the housing and then take it to the welder or if the leakage was from many places, it would be best to replace it with the new one but expensive…
The key for the healthy and long lasting A/C system is to act at the first sign of issue.
When you start hearing some noise when the compressor engages, that is the time to start looking into the possible future failure of A/C system. There is a noise because of a reason and noise is generally caused by metal touching another metal without enough lubrication.
A/C is a closed system but unfortunately, the gas and oil can leak from the O-ring used at many places around the pipes and fittingd.
So, if you lost the gas in the past, you could also lost some of the oil as well. The O-rings are specially designed for each type of gas (R12, R134a).
Please check the pipe connection points with the UV ray light if the leak detector was added to your system. The common places for the leakage on our NSX is at the compressor, the two pipes at R & L condensers and the fittings of the evapo at the firewall.
Obviously, in order to check the internal leakage at the evapo, you will need to remove the blower motor unit.
If you acted early enough, you will be fine by just replacing the compressor with the re-conditioned one and also replace the receiver that is located at the front of the radiator.
It is acting as the filter for the A/C system as well. If there was any leakages, it is best to replace the O-rings at this stage.
A while ago, I supplied the specific O-rings to one of the member together with the receiver and he seemed to be happy with the result.
Unfortunately, if the noise at the compressor was left too long (possibly, the case on this particular NSX), I’m afraid you have circulated many tiny metal debris inside the system and almost clogged the filter at the receiver.
You must replace the compressor and receiver to start with.
Then, due to the lack of maintenance and long term leakage from the O-rings, the system was no longer in closed state and thus, created internal corrosion at the fitting as well as internal wall of pipes. If the corrosion is severe, you will need to replace some of the pipes. This could be a big job for some of the pipes.
Before replacing the compressor, some people blow the pipes with compressed air to get rid of any metal residue but please be careful with handling of remaining oil as it could cause future corrosion.
For this particular NSX and if you blow the pipes as above, you will need to spend extra time during the vacuum process in order to get rid of any moisture that may enter the system through the atmosphere as well as through the compressed air.
One thing to note.
On earlier models, if you disturb the fittings/pipes at the R & L condenser, you may create new leakage even using the new O-rings.
The fittings are just too old and not possible to create air tight seal. I’m afraid if that is the case, you will need to replace the pipes and the condenser. If you have EPS, that will be a big job as the EPS rack needs to come off.
So, based on the limited information on your post, you will at least need to replace the receiver and use re-conditioned compressor plus the high possibility of taking out the leaked evapo for welding or replacement and replacing some of the O-rings…
I hope I covered most of the points.
Regards,
Kaz

that your not blowing the spores into other parts of the car where it could settle and also as Kare mentioned, its hazardous to the lungs and your health.
Expect it to have already happened over the last years. Saving $ for not recoverable health damage? No way! Get it out and pay it, it's the much cheaper bill.
BTW: When do people learn? Switch your A/C OFF five minutes before the end of your drive. ;) I once sat in an NSX which smelled like cat-p*ss. Very disgusting.

Thought I would share this little Cruise Control Mod I've finished up on Andrews car. Andrew wanted to upgrade the steering wheel to the NSX-R hub and Momo wheel, but was adamant about keeping the cruise as he is planning to drive the car regularly and going abroad on some trips.
At first I was going to use some after market buttons and build it into the ashtray but then decided to keep everything even the wiring loom from the SRS reel and go with a unique mod
We custom built/moulded the 4 button slot and used the original cruise buttons which I think turned out nicely.
Heres a few pics to give you an idea, once its all bolted up tight and cleaned I'll take some more.

Just been playing around with that new 3M Carbon vinyl. I noticed a guy on prime was doing some bits so thought I'd have a go myself.
I wanted to do the door garnish as recently I had a few emails from members looking for the garnish as there own was scraped and worn looking. I didnt have any available and new they are very expensive.
My own garnish was fine, but decided to use it as the tester anyway.

I did the door switch trim in about 20mins, as I just wanted to see how it would take to covering some imperfections on it as it a JDM trim, and as you know they bubble badly compared to UK.
I have to say, it covered the imperfection perfectly and if I take my time and do it again, the finish would be perfect.
The 3M material on this is the best I have ever used, its nothing like standard vinyl.
I'm extremely happy with the sill garnish that I'm just going to keep it until I start production on the real carbon version. But have to say I'm not sure if I would change it even then as its a very nice finish and hard wearing.

Yeah having fun playing about with some bits, I'm setting up some real carbon productions so just looking at what can be done because some bits will be difficult to do, I wanted to try the 3M wrap first to get an idea/visual. One of the main problems with the real carbon on some parts is, loss of main fixing points/recesses/Screw Holes etc, so we have to recreate our own fixing alternatives on carbon with certain bits.

Had no other option! The Dunlops that were on the front were actually fine with regards to tread depth, but because I dont use the car much, they had started to perish so it was time for new ones. For me though, I still dont see the point in extremely expensive tyres for a car that is barely driven, never tracked and I barely drive more than 60/70mph.

Hi Sudesh,
What an interesting thread and thanks for posting up so many helpful photos.
My wife has had her NSX since 2004 and I have done quite a few little jobs on it.
Like the first NSX that you worked on on page one, the aerial does not (usually) retract all the way. I have had a look inside at the toothed 'spiral' and like you pictured, some threads were stripped or rather the teeth cropped.
You implied that by cleaning you fixed the problem. Did you cut the section with bad teeth off or take it off and refit it ? Any help appreciated.
Also, on page 25

you talk about this car having a 'wobbly' volume control knob. Linda's is exactly the same and I suspect that it is due to the same cause. Once you get the radio head out, you mention removing the front cover to access the retaining nut. How do you do this ? Or is it obvious once you have the radio on a bench out of the car?
Anyway, best wishes, and a top thread.

If your teeth are worn I would suggest the best course of action would be to replace the antenna mast entirely (includes the nylon teeth), which Honda actually sell separately. This would save you possibly having to do the job twice.
The part number is 39152-SM4-003.
About $40 in the US, not sure what HUK would charge though....

Depending on how much of the section is damaged, you can take off a portion but I would go with the repair kit the NSXCB mentioned if there is allot of damage. Clean it all down first and see how you go. Personally I would disconnect the OEM antenna and install a hidden antenna.

Once out its fairly obvious on how to take the panel off, just take your time and be gentle and its straight forward. The Volume and Tune buttons just pull straight off.

Andrew noticed a slight MISS in the car, so first thing I thought off was the common problem of spark plug corrosion.
As soon as I opened the engine hatch I noticed the coil covers were on wrong, ie front bank was on the rear and rear on the front, this meant the seals would be at the bottom rather than the top to stop water entering, I removed the covers and also noticed a collor was missing from the rear bank. Also someone had replaced the coils back to front too with RR on the front and FR on the rear.

CCU was sent to Kaz for repair and can report back that the master repaired it and controls were restored.
Next was cleaning and testing of the evap unit, as reported a while back the unit was covered in a green substance, after speaking to Kaz and my AC guy they confirmed it was leak detector. It also had a terrible smell which Andrew reported came into the cabin every time the blower was on
With the blower removed it looked like this, green, dirty and smelly lol

I noticed the centre tail light lens was loose, so removed the lense
Quite clear to see that each socket, where the lens bolt would be attached was damaged, causing the bolt to spin which meant it could not be tightened correctly. This could be a cause of over torquing as I believe someone had the lens off in the past as one of the nuts was not the correct spec.

hi folks
there is not much more to be said than what Sudesh has covered. As you can see from the pics etc there was quite a bit to do to the car and I cannot fault what Sudesh has done. His standard of work is second to none, and I would NOT trust my car with anyone else. Some of these pics were news to me too btw!
The car when first purchased was in reasonable nick but through the 'refresh' programme and the added bits done to the car, she is running and dare i say better looking than before. I was more than happy for Sudesh to tear ahead with whatever needed doing, and we both were of the same opinion 99% of the time in terms of what needed done and how we could get her looking as good as she could.
the other bits that sudesh forgot to mention was
removal of the engine fan
removal of standard areial and dab radio areial with internal replacement
you fixed up the boot and tidied it up and got rid of musty smells
regarding your to do list, yup everything you said but gonna push for the ABS upgrade in 2011 ... so something else for you to look forward to! ;)
In the interim I hope to get a full paint correction/detail done on the car. The chosen vendor has been selected so all that is needed now is to schedule a date that will get the car from them to Sudesh for the winter work as described. The detail will take approx 4 days ... there is quite a bit of work to be done, the paint is metallic but looks very very flat, there is varying degrees of swirling all over the car, buffer trails etc etc
So many thanks to Suds for all the HARD WORK and effort put into my car. :) It will not be too long before the car returns to its 2nd home
He is the MAN, so get your car sent over for some 'SLC'

Hi Paul
The interior refresh has turned out to be an excellent result. To be fair to previous owners, the interior of the car was well looked after, it just needed a spruce up. The addition of the Nappa leather bits, the cruise control set up, fixing the centre console, replacing the stereo and adding the Type R steering has transformed the car. A lot of people have commented on how well it looks (interior wise)
AS for the stereo its the Pioneer AVIC-F920BT. Its not the top of the range model but the next one down. Main reasons for purchase is
Looked GOOD - thought it suited the NSX CC, and I did not want a full screen display with moving parts - been there done that
It has full iPhone compatibility - music, contacts list etc
The phone functionality is controlled by an integrated Parrot system and works VERY WELL
Navigation maps can be updated via Micro SD card as and when made available. Its an all in one solution so only external part is to fit the satellite receiver, motion detection etc is all done via unit itself so fitting a lot easier
Cracking user interface, easy to navigate etc etc.
If you are interested in the system, you need to purchase the SOS Double Din bracket to install correctly into your dash
I looked at many alternatives and I have been a Clarion man for the past 18 years, but there was something that just struck me about this Pioneer unit. I think its looks very smart and comes with a lot of functionality for the price. A worthwhile investment for sure. So far so good with the unit, decent sound and good clarity (probably need to think about upgrading speakers at some point!)
As for my wee 'Shamu', its been with me since 1995 and has been in all my cars since that. So I felt it was only right to continue this even in the NSX.

No NSX including NSX-R etc has a push button start as standard.

The shaped moulding looks good but the position in the car makes for an unnatural reach in my opinion. I just think pulling your arm back as you'd need to ss kind of away from the natural bend if that makes sense. I put mine in the lighter position which falls a bit more to hand (once the cover is up). I'm just meaning in the body mechanics of the procedure, I appreciate the ashtray flap needs to be lifted first. Mine was just for the hell of it as I had an S2000 switch already.

I live with push-button on the bimmer. At first it seems cool, but after a day or two - for me anyway - it just feels like a bit of a gimmick.
On the other hand, the push-button styling on the S2K was a real statement piece and you can't help thinking that this was part of a very definite effort by Honda to engineer some "specialness" into the cabin of that car. It does look good, no argument, and I'm sure some people will love to add this to their nsx. My guess is that it will really polarise opinion along one of two lines:
a. "great way to help give the nsx the cabin that it always deserved"
OR
b. "the nsx is special, it doesn't need trick cabin bits to proclaim the fact"
But overall I'm sure that you will have strong demand if you get around to doing the unit, especially stateside if these aren't already on prime. It's a great concept, albeit not for everyone.

Yeah appreciate what you mean, but that will reflect on the nature of the driver/position of the drivers seat etc.
I'm not a tall person, but I do sit quiet far back so my arms length to the centre panel is pretty much perfect!
For me to change the heater setting or if I had a radio, I have to lean way forward to reach them [dam my short arms lol]
So I guess the positioning will suit some and wont suit others.
Andrew is a tall man 6" 3 or more, so he would be a good test subject for really tall dudes lol, but I already done a cruise mod in a similar style to which I think works perfect for him.

Sudesh, are you not losing the convenience of the central locking and boot release?
Hi,
No the Central locking will still be there as I'm not going to whole hog, I'm just going to remove the door buttons and install the NSX-R blanks.
On the door release I have 2 options, either do without the electric release or move it to a different hidden location.
As the NSX-R doesnt use a "blank" where the boot release is but rather has a solid insert and covered over, then I have to find a LHD door panel to make that work. I could just wait it out until I do the Alcantara interior but god knows how long that will be away lol

I decided to address a starting issue I was having before any other NSX's come in.
The problem I was having started off a little sporadic, then became more apparent. Basically when I turned the key to start the car, there was nothing at all, all the usual lights lit up on the dash, I could hear the fuel pump and relays click but just complete silence when turned to start.
I knew the problem wasnt my main relay or fuel resistor as I replaced both of those with new items only a few months ago and I didnt need to test the battery as I know that wasnt the problem anyway. So I thought the problem may be the ignition switch, that over time can fail or get become dirty on the plates on the inside. So I removed the ignition and dismantled the internals, its was in very nice condition on the inside and I couldnt see any problems at all [sorry didnt take pics as camera was on the charge at that time] but here is a basically what I was looking at
library pic
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSXPARTS/NSXIgnitionSwitchB.jpg
I then re-installed the ignition and tested the car for 3 days, all seemed well again however; on the 4th day it was back to the same issues.
So this time I decided to test the starter motor. With my special tool [long metal bar lol] I gave the starter motor a few taps, then turned the key and the car fired up first time. At this point I was fairly sure it was the motor.
I turned the car off, left it for a few hours and then returned to start it. AGAIN the car was dead, special tool in hand and a few taps of the motor and hey presto the car started right up!! I repeated the above a 2 more times to be 100% and same conclusion every time. So time to remove the starter.

So after testing the starter on the bench and cleaning up some of the internals, I spotted that the armature was damaged and causing a short, the solenoid was also replaced and the brushes, the brushes wernt too bad but decided while I was there I would do it anyway.
After replacing those bits I decided to spruce up the motor while it was out.

Well done! How many starts/miles did you had on it?
Just going on 20,000 miles. I think one of the main reasons for the cause of failure was due to the lower securing bolt bot being tight, in fact I was able to remove it by hand!
That coupled with the very harsh suspension that USED to be on the car, until a few months ago, may have been causing the starter to shift/vibrate under driving conditions which probably didnt help any.

I have this starter issue for at least 2 years........I have it fixed once by my garage and it comes back to me after a month. My symbol is very similar, always start in the morning or the car is cool but once it heats up it won't start so i would either open the hatch to cool it down or tap the starter with metal bar. I suspect it is the brush spring but you mention it was the armature. Can you offer some tip as to what i shall look for? Thanks!

My issue was the opposite first!
When cold it would not start, once the car was heated up it wasnt as bad however, it did become worse over time and then, it was a case of not knowing on a journey, if it would start, when I was to stop for fuel or a bite to eat etc.
The armature in my case had some small damage, there was a small indent in the bottom which I think was upsetting the balance slightly, funny thing was, I didnt see any damage on the armature housing, so a bit at loss as to where the indent came from? But inspect the armature as normal for signs of wear or any damage, rust etc.
The commutator can be cleaned up if it looks dirty or burnt, I use some very light sand paper or emery board.
There was also some surface rust on the brush holder that was causing them to stick slightly, I removed the brushes and made the track smooth and tested the tension in the springs which were fine. The brushes werent too bad, the limit is 10mm, new is 15.5mm, so if your getting close to the 10mm side of things it would be worth replacing if your in that far.
To be honest depending on your skills and setup, there are quite a few things that you can test and repair within the OEM service spec.
Also check your solenoid plunger and contact points, again it can be cleaned up.

Are you doing the work yourself? Because there are quite a few things worth inspecting and testing on the motor, I've just given the basics really.
I've just received a second starter motor, and it is in terrible condition. The Armature, springs, brushes, commutator, solenoid, contact pins, housing, bearings, pretty much the whole thing is in real bad condition. I even think the clutch was over running from a quick test.
Most of the problems on this motor is corrosion. Personally I think it can be saved as it sits with allot of cleaning and sanding. Yes it will most likely take longer than replacing items, but I received this as free item, so its a "no rush" project. But me being impatient, I already started work on in today. Have to say, its in terrible shape at the moment. Once finished I will run the motor in my own car for a number of miles.

I worked on the starter once and i replaced both solenoid contacts. But that didn't solve my starting problem. So i had my garage fix my starter but i was only good for less than a month.
I will take the starter out again to inspect it. Can you let me know what i shall look for when i have it disassemble? I have ohm meter to check for the ohm value but i don't really have other testing tools. Also i have the factory service manual with me. Thanks.

Havent being doing much NSX work lately due to being busy with my main business, the fact there arnt many NSX's here and the terrible weather lol
I've been meaning to address the horn situation on my own car for a while now and have had the new ones for a few months. When I purchased my car, it had aftermarket horns to begin with, but a few months back they started to dye out slowly.
So I purchased a new set of "Bosch" horns that a nicer tone than OEM.
While doing the install I decide to move the horns to a different location as I wanted the bumper vent to have a more cleaner look, plus the horns are saved a bit more from the water/salt and general road conditions.
These are the new horns
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2874.jpg
I Choose this as the location for one of them as JDM NSX and possibly Euro/USA spec actually have the security horn placed in the same location.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2875.jpg
I extended the OEM wires slightly and installed the new horns
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2878.jpg
The second horn was placed as you can see, by the radiator pipe, it is a nice fit and doesnt touch or rub against the pipe or body of the car.

Hi Paul,
No problem at all, I like the locations myself as the horns are in a dryer place so should last allot longer, plus it just gives the bumper a cleaner opening at the front.
Here you go, just for you lol
Starting at the OEM horn location, you will obviously need to unbolt the horns, its a tight squeeze in there but manageable, I didnt take photos of this as they are already gone from my car and I didnt want to remove the horns from Andrews car without permission first.
So starting from the cables, you will notice 2 cables either side going into the horns that have a typical honda plug. Just unplug both left and right from the horns
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2898.jpg

Open the bonnet and in where the washer bottle is and bonnet latch you will see where the 2 cables come up to the top, one to the left of the latch and one to the right.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2903.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2904.jpg
Starting with the left one, remove the brown cable tie that holds the cable in place, you wont need this again for this side, but I always keep the anyway
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2905.jpg
With it removed pull the cable up and you should have something like this

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2908.jpg
Now with the cable free and the brown tie removed, strip back/remove the old masking tape thats on the plastic cable covering, cut off the oem honda plug and pull pull the 2 wires out and down the plastic cover a bit
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2912.jpg
Strip/bare the 2 wire as you will either need to use scotch locks or similar product or if your like me, you'll be using solder. Next is the new cable that I use to extend the wiring, its basically the same cable used on plugs for DVD playes, stereos, TV's and so on, it insulated, 2 wires inside and being with the outer black insulation, it hides well on any car.

The length I cut and 2 spade connector attached as the back of the horn is male spade
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2914.jpg
With all wires bare, mate them up lol
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2915.jpg
I then used some solder for a good connection, mask the cables or if you have shrink tube use that, obviously put the shrink tube on first.
When all that is done put the cable back into the factory plastic sleeve and you should have something that resembles this, nice and neat and no sign of the connection.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2916.jpg
Choose the location of where you want the cable sit, I chose here:

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2919.jpg
Attach the spade connectors to the horn first then put the horn in the OEM location and thats it!! One side done and I think looks very neat and OEM look.

Now to the right side.
Again same as before, remove horn, unplug cable, but there is an addition here that makes things easier and that is unplug the front ambient sensor too as the horn wires for this side are in the same plastic covering.
So this is the sensor, unplug here then feed the wire up to the top, also pop off the brown cable tie and remove same as before, but you will reuse this one.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2923.jpg
Agian cut off the horn plug and start stripping off the masking tape on the plastic cable covering, this side has two cable coverings, a small bit and large bit, in this pic you will see what I mean, here I have started to pull out the horn wires and leave the ambient sensor wires in place.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2924.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2925.jpg
Keep feeding the horn wires all the way back to the larger plastic cable cover, basically it is the one where the brown cable tie is attached too in the pic above

When you reach there, you are going to be doing basically the same as the other side, strip/bare the wires, cut the length of new wire, join and solder up. Mask up the wires and push them back into the oem plastic covering.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2926.jpg
New cable in, and re-mask the plastic cover
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_2927.jpg
Everything back in place and feed the ambient sensor back to where it was and plug in.

Some nice NEW parts arrived for my OWN NSX!
1. Ignition Switch
2. Crank Pulley
3. Tail light Seals
4. Starter Motor Bolts
5. Drive Shaft Heat Plate Bolts
6. Oil Drain Bolt
Although the bolts on my starter motor and drive shaft heat plate are fine, I wanted to install new ones, [in keeping with my underside detail plan]
When I was trying to diagnose a starting issue I had last year [which turned out to be the starter], one of the things I inspected was the ignition switch, it was a little sticky at times but nothing too bad. I did open up the switch and clean and re-grease but it still didnt have the nice feeling I remembered, so for me I just wanted to add a new one. So hopefully get to that today.
When I get some more time, I'll be doing a fresh service along with new crank pulley and belts and tail light seals.

While waiting for my new bolts to arrive, I decided to replace the front combination light on Andrews car. We noticed towards the end of last year that the passenger side light was completely steamed up after a drive out. After a quick look it was easy to spot the problem, a small stone at some point went through the lens light a bullet and left a nice little hole.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/JDMYELLOW/SAM_3159.jpg
So Andrew decided he just wanted to replace it. One thing I was a little worried about was that the part numbers for UK/US/JDM cars were all different and I wasnt 100% sure why? I thought it was to do with the bulb holders being different as JDM cars use a different bulb for there indicator. But turns out the lamp unit itself is the same and the the actual bulb holders are interchangeable. So we can swap between UK and JDM setup very easily

in all seriousness, great work mate!
not the biggest shock as i have seen her pretty stripped down before and have seen total removal on a car on prime before ... actually amazed about how calm i am ... bleedin evap is my main concern as you know for a VERY long time ...
just hope this replacement evap unit will do the job ... at least there is no leak detection sticking over all that one. bit shocked at the dirt of it but i guess from previous driving and lying around after being stripped out has taken its toll. amazing how much crap gets sucked up in there. I hope we are on the start/finish straight with the A/C system and thats it once and for all.
the dash all looks pretty complicated in behind there still, so cheers for taking the time to do a bit more tidying up. remember before putting the instrument cluster back in to stick in that dial u had made up so i can get her MOT'ed.

Another members car arrived for some upgrades and some fault finding.
There was a headlight issue in that they would not pop up. I checked the usual things first, fuses, relays, retract control etc, all were fine. So I decided to check the cable and socket. I noticed on the socket there was a build up of corrosion especially on 2 pins.
So I removed the pins, cleaned them down and applied the dielectric grease. Happy to report the lights are now working correctly.

Thats the GPS antenna.
In my opinion thats the correct place to put it [as in up around the window]. Most of those antenna have a magnetic base and a little flat metal plate is provided that has a sticky base and the top is coated in a smooth black surface to match in with the dash. The antenna sits on the plate.

Thanks Sudesh,
I have one on my NSX in the same place but have no records of previous owners having installed a GPS system. Hugo installed a 20g digital stereo thingy that Steve kept, but this didnt have any Nav functions. Curious as to why its there. I had thought it was some kind of digital aarial for the previous stereo install. I have an Alpine head unsit that uses the OEM aerial.
Nice work on the seats BTW ... charcoal dye I presume?

Regarding the GPS antenna.
When fitting one of the DD stereos the console is obviously removed. It's then very easy to fit the antenna hidden away under the dash. Makes for a cleaner installation and it works just fine when mounted on the under dash steel tubing bar...

Yes that is true, and as some have mentioned does work. But for me it still not the correct location. The magnet used on GPS antenna is not overly strong so if it was attached to the chassis tubing and you came under hard driving conditions, it possible it could detach. It may never happen but if it did, would be a pain to start stripping down to sort it out. Even if you look at modern day cars, GPS antenna is either built into the window or a roof type antenna.
Not saying your method is wrong but from my experience, aftermarket antenna was always placed around the front window, which is why the small plate was included.

Horses for courses but I've had afermarket units in several cars as well as OEM units.
I agree manufacturers place them on the roof etc but I have never had any issue with them being under the dash. Should it fail then on the NSX it's just a case of removing the clock and centre vent then tracing the wire to the unit. . With an OEM roof mount you'd have to potentially remove the roof lining if there was no access aperture in the lining (there isn't in my OEM unit in my daily runner).
As for security, I don't just rely on the magnet. There are plastic cables ties in place as well to ensure fixing. I just prefer this to a bump/wart on my dash. If you'd seen what the original dash in my car was like with the alarm fitters shocking effort you'd know what I mean!!!

MANY thanks for doing all the wee tidy up's in the interior mate, your keen eye amazes me the majoirty of the time; had noticed some of the issues but did not see that vent on the door console!
with regards to the posts re the GPS antenna, as i own the car i personally prefer the placement of it there ... my previous cars had them installed there and i have never had any signal issues EVER! i know people who have hidden them and have had issues, so its not my intention to hide it. they are so small anyway these days you hardly notice its there and it never moves or rattles. hell the amount of people that have been in my car have never even noticed ... too busy loving the sitting position, looking out front between the wing arches and listening to the lovely VTEC behind their earholes! :)

Hi Kare,
Thanks for the comment, that was a quick going over with a first application of the scuff treatment, I'm going to do another layer and a few other bits.
I used this product: http://www.liquidleather.com/scuffs.htm
Cant comment on the longevity of this product as I've only used it once on a previous car which has since sold, also everyone has there method of entering and exiting the NSX which can involve allot of pressure/rubbing against the bolster. But from that quick test on Andrews car it really helped to hide the wear marks.

Well its nothing I dont know about, and something everyone should have done if you have no record of it ever being carried out.
Once again I was lucky with my coolant hose, and similar situation to what happened a long time back. Anyway today was my second time driving my NSX this year, I had the car sorned and garaged over the winter and only a few weeks ago put it through MOT which it flew through. Weather was nice here today so decided to take it out for most of the day. All was going great until I called to a friends house, as soon as I opened my door I could smell coolant, had a look round and didnt see any immediate signs. Then I got down and looked under the car and noticed some drips in the middle of the car, noting too serious and not enough to affect the coolant level and temp needle stayed in its proper position.
However I had a feeling I knew what the problem was so decided to take it easy and get the car home. Once home I got the car up and removed the centre cover to the 3 coolant hoses. I started the NSX again and noticed a small pin hole where the coolant was coming from, I then had a look around the rest of the hoses while I was there and within a few mins the tiny pin hole erupted and coolant poured out!
So once again, I have been lucky that I was at home when a coolant pipe burst, nobody to blame but myself as I have yet to carry out a full hose change on my own car, but at this rate I'll have them done eventually lol. Anyway ordered up 3 new centre hoses and the 2 main ones at the front. Would just be my luck as the weather is to be amazing this weekend and no chance the hoses will be here before then.

Thanks to Kaz, I got the hoses much quicker than in the UK and sorted the problem a few weeks ago.
As NSX work is quite for at the moment, I have started some more work on my own car.
I replaced the crank pulley and new belts so thats some piece of mind for now. [didnt have the camera on me to take pics], but nothing overly complicated with the right equipment. Hardest part I guess is removing the bolt and many have broken sockets and bars trying to get this off lol
I decided to replace transmission oil again and also I wanted to check condition of the filter.
So as always remove the fill bolt first, once thats off remove the drain bolt and let gravity do its job, I had plenty of time so I let it drain and drip out for over an hour.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_4344.jpg
With both fill bolt and drain bolt removed I decided to give them a clean down

After clean down and new seals
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/icongroup/NSX8/SAM_4350.jpg
This is the cover where the filter is, it can be a little tricky to remove and usually gets damaged when removing so best to replace with new cover and seal.

All thats left is to fill the box with MTF 3, so as always put the drain plug and new seal back on.
With some pipe and funnel running to the fill plug start pouring!

I can pretty much judge this correctly so know when to stop pouring, so with car on the level, the MTF fluid comes up to the level of the drain plug, and thats it! Job done, fit the filler plug and new seal, torque to spec and take for a test drive.
Next I'll be working on the drive shafts.

So first remove drain the clutch resevoir, but even with that drained you will get some fluid dripping out so be careful and try not to get it on the body work, just keep a cloth handy to wipe down, with the hose removed I put the new seal on and bolted the end that goes into the clutch slave first really simple and and straight forward, only 2 bolts.

On this install I decided to remove the retain bracket that sits on the fire wall as I wanted to see how good a fit the new hose was and make sure the little clasp was nice and tight.

The clasp fitted perfect and as good as OEM.
So, just bolt the bracket back up, install the metal clutch pipe into the female end of the new stainless hose and screw up the female end of the new hose to then adapter on the slave cylinder and thats it!
Just need to bleed the system now and have a test.

He is really flat out at the mo with his work and stuff and he is a hard man to nail down at the mo if honest ... i hope to pin him down to start working on my ABS upgrade but yeah he had said to me he has hardly been on here just due to lack of hrs in the day ... but he is still/should be knocking around. surprised you have not got a callback from him.

Hi Andrew,
Thanx for this and I spoke with Sudesh earlier today ... he has been a very busy man!
Sudesh, I forget to ask earlier ... do you have the part # for that small blamking plate used for the R steering wheel? It covers the U shape cut out that would normally be covered by the OEM airbag wheel.
Thanx in advance and talk soon about the other project

Paul, I'm not sure there is a Honda part # for what you require, the 'R' has different top & bottom column covers I believe.

Thanx Simon,
I recall a post from Sudesh about this part when he installed his wheel. Although the casing is different, I think the same part applies t cover then exposed inards of the column.
Hopefully I'm right
Regards, Paul
