Just a quick recommendation for the boys at Lakeside Engineering in Surrey. They've been looking after my Elise for nearly ten years and doing a great job for very reasonable prices, so I thought I'd give them a shot with the NSX. It was overdue a service and had recently been suffering from chronic brake judder, even at road speeds. Firstly I was very impressed that even on the phone when I first mentioned the car, Max knew that the cambelt needed changing at 60,000 miles. They are Lotus and Porsche specialists but he still knew more about my car than I did. When he rang me shortly afterwards to say the steering rack needed work, I didn't expect it to be related to the brake judder, but I gave the go-ahead anyway to send it away to get fixed (which Max recommended to save me money rather than replacing it). When I came back from holiday it was ready to pick up and the brake judder has gone :)

Seems like I've been wasting my time trying to find a local NSX specialist, I should've taken it to Lakeside all along. I'll give them a bash with the Mitsubishi Evo next, as that's been in with someone else for two months getting a clutch replacement (sigh).

So if anyone around the west M25 area is looking for a place to service their NSX and prefers a sound mechanical outfit rather than a shiny-showroom-and-coffee affair, give Lakeside a try. Tell them James Thomas sent you :) (I have no affiliation with them, I'm just a long-term happy customer and would like to put some business their way)

So was your 'brake judder' down to the play in the steering rack? I'm assuming the play was your n/s inner tie rod?

Good to find a garage that you can trust...with NSX knowledge is a definite bonus.

Ah, your question has exceeded my limited knowledge :) I don't know what the problem was, I just know that the work on the steering rack fixed it. That's the main reason I need a garage I can trust, because I thought an inner tie rod was a business fashion accessory. I've had a lot of trouble with other garages lately (for example, the garage that currently has the Mitsubishi has had it for six months of the past year while they make various bollocks excuses as to why it's taking so long) and Plans had the NSX for three months last year while they sorted a gearbox issue. With Lakeside I always know they're going to do the right thing for me and the car, and turn it around as quickly as is reasonably possible. It's the only garage I've ever been to where I'm totally confident they're being straight with me, and know their onions to boot. In an ideal world, all garages would be like this.

Guys as magic as the NSX is as long as you have some common sense pretty much everything is "normal" so any reputable garage should be able to work on most basic stuff.

BTW Jim shame on you :) for letting the T Belt lapse.

Cheers,

Ary

Lakeside Engineering are nice people, when I had my S1 Elise my other fellow owners who were in that vicinity always recommended them and it's good to know they can take care of the NSX as well :).

Have fun,
Steven
