This story was posted in the back of the latest S800 magazine ....

Two British traffic officers from North Berwick, east of Edinbrgh, were involved in an unusual incident while checking for speeding motorists on the A1 Great North Road.

One of the un-named officers was using a hand held radar device to check the speed of a vehicle aproaching over the crest of a hill. However, he was more than a little surprised when the indicated speed was over 300mph!!! The machine then stopped working (hoorah) and the officers were unable to reset it (shame).

The radar had in fact locked onto a NATO Tornado fighter jet over the North Sea, which was engaged in a low-flying exercise over the Borders district.

Back at Police HQ, the cheif constable fired off a stiff complaint to the RAF Liaison office

.... now for the best bit ...

Back came the reply in true laconic RAF style.

"Thank you for your message, which allows us to complete the file on this incident. You may be interested to know that the tactical computer in the Tornado had automatically locked onto your 'hostile radar equipment' and sent a jamming signal back to it (I so want one of them :)).

Furthermore, the Sidewinder air-to-ground missiles aboard this fully-armed aircraft has also locked onto the target.

Fortunately the Dutch pilot flying the Tornado responded to the missile status alert intelligently and was able to override the automatic protection system before the missiles were launched."

Hope you enjoyed this little ditty ...

That was funny!! I wonder what speed the jet was actually doing if the laser stopped at 300mph
