I'm a total NSX novice who currently drives an EVO IX. I'm an ex Integra Type R owner of 5 years and loved every second of it!

With NSX's being a rarity in the UK i was thinking about the import route.

I'm seriously thinking about getting rid of the Evo in exchange for a MK1 911 GT3 but the car i've always wanted is an NSX Type R. Before you all burst into laughter, bear with me!

I'm just after any info from anyone who has imported one with regards to prices and availability etc?

I get the feeling it would be easier and cheaper to import rocking horse excrement :D

Hi and welcome!

Have you any idea what year of NSX-R your after any specific miles you want stay around. As you probably already know, importing a well cared for NSX of the standard type, actually works out as expensive as a UK car, in some cases alot more. An NSX-R is even more expensive and as your probably aware there is only a few NSX-R's in the UK already.

To give you a rough idea as I have been following NSX's in Japan and actually have an Imported NSX myself and also import myself; a 1995 NSX-R Grade 5 car with 10,000miles is around £65,000, a 1993 Grade 5 28,000miles £58,000 these are only a few examples, I have seen slightly cheaper ones as like everything depends on Year/Miles/Grade, also those prices dont include shipping, VAT, Customs duty, Registrations Fees and other small fees to have the car in the UK and on the road.

Exchange rate will also determine the price of the car but with the VAT being 15% at the moment there will be a bit of saving there. Also if you stay within the 10 year rule the car wont be subject to SVA which at the moment would be very costly for an NA2 NSX-R.

NA2 NSX-R's would cost well over £100k to have on the road in the UK.

Thanks for the reply. I didnt realise they still command that kind of money. Out of my league unfortunately, it's a shame.

Yeah they still fetch very high premiums in JAPAN as its sought after there, and is considered their Supercar. There have been slightly cheaper ones available but would still be in the very late £40's early £50's for one. The NSX-R also started out from I think 1992 to 1995 then appeared again as the facelifted NA2 from I think 2003 to 2005.

Why not the Mk2 996 GT3 rather than Mk1?

Why not the Mk2 996 GT3 rather than Mk1?

The Mk1 is considered the more sought after car. To be honest there's not much in price between the two versions. I'd happily settle for either!

I'd be after a clubsport version in white :D

In a special edit EVO, the best drivers cars, the mk1 just rated one place higher than a mk2, NSX Type R was fifth just half a point behind the mk2. Winner was the 550, followed by the Zonda, then mk1, mk2 & Type R!

With the world economy in melt down are the 02+ NSX-R's still fetching such high prices? I would of thought that prices must be coming down by now, as now not even the bug is at a premium any more.

Even Tom Hartley is selling R8's for less than base list! http://www.tomhartley.com/usedcar/AUDI/R8/Midlands-Derbyshire/14438479

Not really where the NSX-R is considered in Japan. They are still holding there value there. I was looking at at 2003 NSX-R currently for sale in Japan, its the basic standard White with red Recaros, rear spoiler unpainted, had the AC, no stereo, and a good part of the original factory shrink wrap plastic on the carpets and sills etc, also has full history, Grade 5 car with only 1,100miles. With duties, shipping, VAT at 15%, SVA and other fees I estimate that car would be somewhere around £115.000 on the road in the UK.

Yeah pretty much! I spoke to a contact out in Japan and he told me that what is recorded is, 483 NA1 NSX-R's were sold in Japan from 1992 to 1995 and only 152 from 2003 to 2005, not sure how accurate that is though.

And that is why I would go with the Mk2. The Mk1 is considered to be a slightly better car (by EVO), but you can get a four year newer Mk2 for the same price. This would mean it can be kept under the warranty for another four years.

True. I've only looked at a few for sale on pistonheads. There seem to be loads of lardy comfort spec mk2's with no recaro's / cage etc for around the £40k mark. Will see what the next 6 months bring. Hopefully the Clubsport's will drop a few £k. Fingers crossed!

Sudesh, do you mean NA1 Type Rs to 2002? I guess that NA1s even though are older cars, are more better value than NA2s as they are even rarer & 3 OR 3 times more NA1s to NA2s? The car you quoted is virually brand new, so may be priced correctly 115K on the road in the UK! But what a higher mileage car for eg 30,000 miles and a grade below a 5? What would they cost to sit your garage? :)

Not sure what you mean but, NA1 NSX-R were produced from 1992 to 1995 then ceased production. Then the NA2 NSX-R appeared from 2003 to 2005. There could be a few early/late registered car in both those production groups though.

NA1's fetch anywhere between £40k to £90/£100k depending on the usual miles/year/grade and believe it or not spec or lack there off lol!!

NA2 cars fetch from £100++++

All the above prices dont include shipping/UK duties and so on.

Most of the NSX-R's I looked at were all in as new condition, and quite a few still had all the original plastics on the interior etc. I have even seen a few early NSX-R's with only 800 to 1500 miles.

I have yet to see an NSX-R with 30,000 miles++ on my searches so not sure on what the price would be; cheapest car I have seen at the moment is a 1993 car in dark green with 9,000 miles, that car would cost £52k on the road in the UK.

Hmm I thought about buying that when the details were announced that the next car 'should' be a V10, it's not worth anywhere near that of course and when the car is not named NSX will plummet in value ;).

Incidentally V6NSX sold on an NSX recently for around £30k and that was on a yr1999 New Imola Orange Targa so the plate pulled no premium.

Hey Simon, V6 is hardly anything out of the norm for an NSX! LOL
