O.K, you have the NSX tucked up at night, so for when the family runs come to hand, what 2nd car do you all have?

I am looking for some ideas.

Because I find driving on the road mind numbingly dull, scary, just a method to get from A to B etc etc, my other car is a cheap 10 yr old Honda CRV.

It can carry building materials, snowboards, bikes. It can park up next to kerbs without danger of scraping front spoilers and wheels. It's roomy and reliable. It is stress free motoring, which is what I want for the public roads.

I have always used 'sports' cars as my only car, until I had to get a cheap car to drive to work afew years ago. Since then, I will always have such a stress free, practical daily driver. It's almost enjoyable, just to know I'm driving something I really don't care about.

Believe it or not i mostly drive a Toyota AYGO 1 Litre Sport with sport spec being front spots; better seats; rev counter and rear spoiler :D  . It gives me 60mpg £35 p.a. road tax and cheap insurance and can do 61mph in 2nd gear standard (not too may times though as i would imagine it would not be a good idea). When i go from Aygo to NSX there seems a big difference like earth to moon :) It has never let me down since new and corners great for a puddle jumper.

I was using the NSX as an everyday car until I got my BM back on the road, so I fluctuate between them.

Sudesh - go for the M5 touring... everyone hates X5 drivers;)

I'm considering a new S3 sportback as a family wagon. You can get one for £320+VAT a month contract hire.

If running costs are out of the window I'd recommend an RS4 (as I'm sure SS would!) or an M5 touring. The sensible choice is probably a A4 TDI or 320d if you're doing any quantity of miles.

Winter and wet days I drive my 20 year old (16 years with me) Lotus Isuzu Piazza Turbo.Unmarked bodywork, annually Waxoyled, rear wheel drive, limited slip diff and 12lb of boost when needed still gives a shock to many a BMW/Audi,hot hatch!!Only problem is most of them have no idea what it was that humbled them.
Occasionally,if I am "very good" (read given in to shoe/handbag/dress purchase) I get my hands on my wifes S2000,after all it needs a regular "Italian tune Up" to keep it in good order.
Today the sun is out,the sky is blue and I took the long route (20 miles instead of 2) to work,Targa off,TCS off,and "the Goddess" howling all the way to 8,000rpm changing up through her JDM short gears...................absolute heaven.

My other car is a rather unique 2006 model Nissan 350z S-Tune Nismo. I bought it about 6 months before getting the NSX so have been trying to sell it but without much success so far :(

Its actually a great drive but seems there's not too many out there who appreciate it enough to part with 20k... i guess I'll have to alternate between the two for now ;-)

2nd vote for the CRV as the family transport.. later 2.2d version with all the toys as thats how she likes her cars ... very practicable / economical ... easy access for the baby seat :)

My daily is an Accord Tourer 2.2d ... soon to be going but has been a trusty old steed pounding the 72k+ motorway miles in the last 3 yrs ... I'm yet to find something the load area wont carry, from garden benches (assembled) to building rubble. Even picked up a sofa bed the other week and went in the back no issue!

Looking for a lazy economical auto to replace the Accord ....

300ZX with another shiny engine bay to polish

Love the 300ZX!! I've had many of them over the years I think 6 or so. Great car, still looks well, personally I think its much nicer than the 350Z! I'm actually a long time member of the 300ZX.co.uk club also. My cousin is interested in a Strosek/Zentre/wide body 300ZX at the moment, he has a standard white UK 300 Twin Turbo but looking for the wide body one also.

I have four 86/87 Preludes i've picked up over the years for $400 to $600 ea. and invested a few hundred U.S. to bring them back to good maintenance standards and get in the low thirties per gallon in all. R-12 a/c in all, c/d changers, etc, etc...
I leave them at different airports for transportation when I get there so I don't have to nick a crew car. Sometimes never seeing them for 6 or 8 months at a time and they always start right up, sometimes with a small push or a jump to get them back to life.
I use a white one for every day driving.
Two with 315,000 +, two over 210,000.

And moving to the diametrically apposed position to Matt.

My 2nd car is........a Daewoo Matiz!!! (in bright metallic orange). Affectionately known as the 'baked bean' by my kids!

My excuse? I have a 6 mile drive to/from the station each day & needed something that was small, cheap to run & for me to not care about abandoning for 9 hours a day.

I bought the little Matiz on ebay (brave I thought!), 4 years old, FSH, 14,000 miles for £1500. Nothing like a manufacturer going bankrupt to speed up depreciation!!!!

I feel it is likely that I am the only person in the world to own an NSX & a Matiz. Whether that is something to be proud of is another matter all together!!!

We had one of these but with the John Cooper Works Kit fitted, we got crap service from all the BMW dealers we visited to get things sorted (it was in for 4 weeks once when the exhaust fell off (only got fixed when we rang mini direct)) it rattled more than Bezzas maraca’s and we had to check to make sure our fillings were still in place after every journey. A lot of hype over an OK car. What makes me laugh most is the press now slag off the ride of the old version when they all said how wonderful it was!

The Fenn fleet is widespread and random!

Mercedes SLK - Slow but much better handling than previous generation.

Lotus Motorsport Elise - Awesome in every respect.

Defender for wife's dog-walking business. Such a cool vehicle, love driving it even though it feels like nothing's connected to anything else!

Range Rover top Vogue LSE for £1500. Fabulous long distance cruiser and true multipurpose vehicle. On LPG but range terrible. Love this bangernomics thing!

MX5 for £1300. Can't think how in any way you could get this much fun any cheaper. It does need the suspension upgrading & alignment tweaks done though (fully adjustable just like the NSX...). This is the current daily driver. Upgrades on the way ;) Like the Rangie isn't going to depreciate any more.

NSX fabulous but has to go, hence the other cheap c**p.

I bought a Mini for my wife as a wedding present (I had money before I was married.... coincidence?).

Worst car I've ever bought.
I feel qualified to speak on this subject as the new CRV in the drive is number 45. The range goes from the best - CRV's/NSX etc down to the worst - original Mini's (2), Fiestas (3), Truimph Dolomites (2; an 1850 and a Sprint. I actually liked them too), Spitfires (a Mk4 and a 1500), and..... a Matra Rancho. 1979, in Green.

Anyway, back to the Mini....
It's had 6 speedo units at £700 each just because the clock keeps running fast (all under warranty). The dealer can't fix it, f* knows why, it's only an effin' clock. I can get one for £2.99 from any corner shop and it'll keep better time!

It's also had a new front bumper and repaired bonnet after the dealer (Peter Vardy/Dunedin in Seafield, Edinburgh) run it into something hard while changing a speedo unit.

More rattles than the annual mother and toddler convention.

Alarm problems (driving through central Edinburgh in the rush hour with the alarm and hazzards at full tilt is NOT pleasant!)

Faulty boot warning light.
Or was it the switch?

SERIOUS crunch when selecting reverse.

Loose spotlights on delivery.

Damaged rear bumper on delivery.

The warranty is up in a month, I'm terrified

The only redeeming factor is that when the sun shines and you've got the roof down, the problems are soon forgotten and it's the second best car in the world.

I still wouldn't have another one even if you held a gun to my head.

It wouldn't be so bad if the dealers even PRETENDED to take it all seriously.

I am gonna keep the 525d sport for the time being. It came down to a crap trade in price they wanted to give me. I am going to wait until March and have another look!

Embarassing... not quite got an NSX yet, but my other car is a... ahem... Civic, and not even a Type R. To be upgraded to an Accord Tourer sometime soonish (depending how much dough is left over after buying the NSX).

Well I don't have an NSX yet - so my real cars are
new model CRV (which replaced a well run in Honda Stream) because they work so well as a family car
a Honda Jazz (run around for the wife).

sad to say but in all my years of owning cars I have had:
1 Chevy (American version of a Vauxhall - I bought it cheap from my dad)
1 Vauxhall (gift from the inlaws)
1 Toyota Corolla (replaced the Vauxhall)
4 Honda Civics (and not one of them a TypeR - but I did blow up 3 engines!)
1 Honda Accord
1 Honda Stream
1 Honda CRV (current)
1 Honda Jazz (current)

so you could say I keep finding myself driving around in Hondas. :)

Honda Beat- the most fun you can have this side of an NSX, and unbeatable (!) in London traffic. Mine had an extra-loud exhaust.
Sadly, gone to another home since last month.
