Hi all,

Thank you for the feedback on my last post with regards to an import. I went to see a honda dealer to day to discuss the possible costs of maintenance. He mentioned to me that the costs of a suspension arm is about £800 each and there are 8 of them on the car! I think he was trying to be helpful....the cost is high due to the parts being aluminum...but can if i am looking to buy a used car is there any way i could tell if the car I would be looking at requires/need to replace these parts?
He also said that the cambelts need to be replaced every 5 years or 60.000 miles rather than what i have read on the internet being 8 years or 72,000 miles.

Cheers for your advice it is really appreciated.

As for suspension arm replacement, unless you have a problem with them directly or with seized bushes then why would you need to replace them ??

As for Cambelt, the service interval change in 1997 / 1998 with the introduction of the 3.2

Some dealers might not know about this, others may retrospectively assume this interval also applies to the 3.0

To be honest the Cam belt service isn't cheap, but buying the parts from the US makes it reasonable.

Just to confirm what Simon has alredy said, 5 years or 60k miles is for the 3.0 litre cars and 8 years or 72k miles is for the 3.2 litre cars.

Cheers for the advice....are there any US websites you could recommend for parts or bodystyling?

See the sponsor section on here for Dali

http://daliracing.com/

Also see SOS

http://www.scienceofspeed.com/

Then you also have Detlef at Procar in Germany in the vendors section for Carbon Fibre.

Bazza is also very competitive with aftermarket parts here in the UK...

Paul,

where did you get the figures for cambelt change?
I always thought it was 6 years or 60K on 3.2's. I even checked the service book and that's the time schedule it quotes.

Cheers,

James.

I did think 8 years sounded a bit strange, mine still has the 6k intervals with the 60k cambelt so I didn't question it ??

Paul is correct(at least for mine and his car)
I just checked the service book and it states 96 months or 72000 miles

I know mine and Simon's cars are the same but when recently enquiring about services I found out that the change from 6,000 to 9,000 mile intervals happened in september 1998 (when my car was registered!). At first I thought that it was all 3.2's that had the longer service interval and I don't see why they shouldn't but strictly speaking September 1998 was the cut off point.

As for suspension arms I've only heard of one isolated (expensive) case so I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Paul,

the service book I have for my car is not specific to the NSX so basically it's wrong. I looked in my owners manual and there's no service info for EU cars (it says refer to service book!!). Anway, I'd say pretty conclusively that you're right, which saves me an expensive service in September which is pretty cool.

Now the question is, what about spark plugs 60K or 6 years!!!

Cheers,

James.
