Hi to all!! Hope everyone is well.

I am new to this forum and was hoping I could get some feedback with regards to buying an import NSX.

Are the parts on an import as readily available as the uk spec'd NSXs?

Could anybody recommend a specialist insurance company if I started with '0' no-claims?

Anything I should be weary of on an import as opposed to a UK car?

If i wanted to buy a bodykit, are there any companies in the uk that can supply and fit?

Thanks for your help,:)

Hi Andy and welcome,

Buying an import NSX 'may' offer some different color choices over the UK cars, but not much else.

The NSX is still highly sought after and therefore offers little (if any) savings, and may actually cost you more by the time you get it here and registered/approved for use in the UK. Speak to 'Sudesh' who has recently brought an NSX this way.

Just my thoughts, but if you are looking to buy one then fit some bodykit that for many would devalue the NSX, then look at one of several early cars currently for sale here. If, by bodykit you are thinking of updating an early car to 02+ facelift, go for a well maintained and documented 3.0 and budget for about £8-£10k all in for the OEM upgrade.

HTH and happy hunting

regards, Paul

Hi Paul,

Thank you very much for your advice. I really was looking to put sensible a higher spoiler but nothing outrageous...also maybe some alloys.

I am currently looking for a car at the moment....but it is quite hard as there are not very many around.

Do you know any insurance companies you coudl reccomend.

Thanks again for your help

Cheers,

Andy

I think everyone would agree with Pauls comments.

Unless you have a mate in Japan who finds an incredible deal on a standard model; the only cars worth importing would be a Type S or Type R ??... or the Esprit race spec one that's currently for sale on Piston heads [ they say £58K... I could land it for about £40K... if anyone is interesed :) ]
If you were to exercise any of these latter options... my view is that you would become an instant Legend in the community ;)

In almost all cases, you could get a comparable NSX cheaper in the UK than importing from Japan? - [if you do find one you want - my mate in Japan would charge you £500 for the leg-work on that end]

Not many for sale in the UK? I think there are quite a few.... if you look hard enough.

Insurance: I had "0" no claims and a 3 month old licence and found it very difficult to get anyone to qoute me under £2K. Not recommending anyone.. but call around AdrianFlux, Performance Direct, Sky Insurance ?
after one year it has dropped to £800

Good luck, and hope we see you around

I currently have 5 years no claims on another car, but don't want to transfer it because of hikes in insurance and also the company i am with don't insure import cars.

I have currently been quoted about £1100 with '0' no-claims.

Thanks,

Andy

Insurance.........Phone Aon Private Clients (01384-552788) and ask about their Classic Car Modern Classic cover with Royal and Sun Alliance. If your purchase is 10 years or more old this policy will cover it.Your N/C bonus is irrelevent to this policy and you can keep it on your daily driver.Allso very important is the Agreed Value this policy provides.I pay £507 p.a. for fully comp joint husband and spouse, business use by both and agreed value with a mileage restriction of 5,000p.a.Best value policy I can find.Well worth a call.

I'm insured with Competition Car insurance with their Sports car policy. Similar to the RSA policy above, GFvalue, 5k mileage and £437 premium. Call Tracey on 0115 941 6146 who was very helpful :)

Andy,

Not sure what you're looking for but if 3.0 Red/Black is on your shopping list, you should take time to talk to Steveycaz!

I don't wish my car to be older, but can't wait for it to hit 10 years old, so can take advantage of the 10 year/classic car insurance! Also could then use max NCB on another of my cars! Just got my renewal at 656, 21 cheaper than last year 677, but saved 21 since I'm now married May 08, so premium would have been exactly the same! Strange?

No dont worry that car is definitely not the same....i did actually see that one your talking about though....

This car i got from kent from an enthusiast (i think) :)

2 owners from import date of 1997....50,000 miles....the first owner was a honda dealer and the second was an enthusiast....so has been well looked after (i hope )

Andy
