I get asked many questions about oil so I thought a thread here for all oil related questions would be a good idea and build into a FAQ or reference point for others.

So, put your oil questions here but please give the following information if you would like a recommendation:

Make
Model
Year
Engine size/type

Any mods

Type of use (road/track)

Additional info (max oil temps, current oil used)

What do you want a recommendation for? Engine, Gearbox etc?

I hope this will help and become a useful thread

Regards
Guy

If you stick to the standard servic schedule an oil that meets the VW503.01 and these tend to be 0w-30 or 0w-40.

Have a look at these http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-748-50301.aspx

What oil do you reccommend for a '98 manual 3.2 NSX transmission?
I replaced the original( 29,000 miles) some three/four thoudand miles ago with Honda's (universal?) oil, but already the gearbox feels "notchy" and stiff----as though it needs another change!!
The local Honda folk assured me that their oil was suitable for the NSX, but I now have doubts. J.C.

It is suitable, but thats it.

Just about all honda gearboxes use an MTF fluid (manual transmission fluid) and these are usually 75w-80 as opposed to the normal 75w-90 gear oil and the spec needed is GL4.

We recommend a good synthetic upgrade over the standard stuff, have a look here at the Amsoil Synthetic MTF and the Redline MTL http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-670-75w-80-75w-85-mtfs.aspx

Hi Guy. Can you recommend me an engine oil for:

Honda
NSX
3.2
2002
30000 miles

Completely standard.

I was thinking Silkolene Pro S 5W40.

What do you think?

The Pro S would be a very good choice.
