Simon,

HTH - plus I provided the belts and water pump from Dali. The 10% off the final figure was the NSXCB discount I got from Norton Way. I probably could have provided more and saved on the parts (sparks) but I ran out of time getting it all together!

In essence labour came in at £468 including 0.75 to fit the water pump, pretty good I reckon!

Speak soon.

Hi hope its ok to post this here.

The NSX is due its 12 year service with the belt change, is this correct?

Its a 1996 and it has done 86K, the car has FHSH and had an oil change a few months ago, the next service stamp to be done is 84K main according to service book.

Spoke to my local Honda garage in Falkirk and they said they have a NSX approved Tech, previously i was told only Linwood in Paisley had someone approved so this is good news.

I got a price for a full service and belt change plus doing the water pump.

Here is the breakdown they gave me:

Timing Belt
Plugs
Airfilter
Fuel Filter
Oil Filter
Anti Freeze
Oil

The above comes to £899.73 inc VAT

Then the above plus the water pump is £1293.93 inc VAT.

What do other owners do with regards to servicing? the Water pump is £390 from Honda.

Can you buy GENUINE Honda parts elsewhere cheaper as they said they will still fit them as long as they are Genuine Honda Parts?

Also is there any other things you would reccomend i should have done at the same time?

Thanks very much and sorry for the long post

The TB change is every 6 years, so the date of the last change is the reference unless it hasn't been changed within the last 12 years.

What?! £390 for a water pump??? PURE RIP-OFF! Mine was 1/3 of it. Usually dealers don't like people bringing their parts with them that's we DIY. :P

Donna id be getting all my own stuff personally. Oil, plugs, belts, pump the lot. always save money instead of hondas, just let them do it and get the stamp1

As long as the stuff is OEM etc i cant see why they should grumble.

hope its ok, get my teg on sat :)!

I got my big service for I think £450 plus supplying all the parts and oil etc from Dali. This included having the water pump changed too! There is a link to my invoice from Norton Way in a thread by simonprelude on here about his big service costs too if you want to do a search which shows their breakdown. You should also try and negotiate a discount for being in the NSXCB if you can (say you'll put them on our list of good garages) that is with another 10% with NW!

You can get the price down significantly by getting waranteed OEM parts from Dali as Amo said. If the next group buy comes to me I can post them up to you too for probably £10.00 so you'll save big time!

Donnac, is Phoenix Honda at Paisley not the only NSX dealer/tech in Scotland? I can't see a problem with you supplying geniune Honda parts from the USA (great exchange rates) & getting a Honda UK to do the labour.

DTM, back to what you know best pal! Let us have a pic of your Teg IDC!

Yes that's what you'll want.

I ordered the one for 97+ a little while ago and picked it up last week.

I thought the Cam belt service was every 5 years ??

Have always been told 6 yrs or 60k for the 3.0. (Why is it 90k in the USA?)

Because the service packs use sillimetres as in Japan :) (kilometres)

My 3.2 uses the 3.0 service intervals as the interval changed for 1998 cars :(

I dont want to sound funny but my expierence with all these main honda (Toyota in the past too)) dealers is very bad for a last 5 years. In my opinion they are almost 100% useless. If they can they will always rip you off ,mostly of the times you wont get any advice and all they knowledge stops after they take your car of all diagnostic computers they got{sometimes they dont even have them or say that their computer is not good enough for your car).I am sure is plenty other good garages around where you can get your nsx services done for less money and better air filters, spark plugs and other things which ones you can get from other places like some of NSXCB club members adviced too.And if that is proper garage you will get your service book stamped too.Sorry but that is my opinion.

Yep - I've been tempted to use my local independent supercar specialist rather than Honda...but my local dealer's labour rates are really rather good, and they're actually pretty helpful.

However, I think you are right - changing oil / plugs / etc etc can't be a specialist job, and I think many of us (self included) are a bit too hung up on "FHSH" - never mind taking cars to an "NSX garage".

(Note to potential buyers - my car DOES have FHSH!!! Although I'm not at all sure it really matters :-) )

Thankfully both Chiswick Honda and Norton Way Honda are passionate and very knowledgeable about the NSX. The only other place I would take mine is the Honda press office where it was serviced for the first 2 years of it's life.

Money can be saved sourcing parts and consumables elsewhere making the labour rate acceptable.

Any NSX I own is 5 years as it was only a manouver to get around US car legislation that made them change it.

Donnac,

Have the valve clearances checked, change the cam plugs, change the valve cover gaskets, new air filter? That is at a minimun on top of what you wrote.

Cheers,

AR

But surely Ary it has to be well within a time frame that would cause the belts to snap, otherwise Americans-who love to sue-(no offence to our members across the pond) would take Honda to the cleaners over it,plus, how many timing belt failures have you read about on Prime?

Thank you AR, will get that added to the list too, going to call Paisley tomorrow to make sure that Honda Falkirk really do have a NSX tech and confirm i can supply my own parts from Dali.

Also going to order a car cover and oil cap from them too, when is the deadline for having it shipped over in the group buy?

And Dan looking forward to the pics of your new DC2

Hi the 90K kit with the waterpump and belts, plugs etc is working out at around £305 plus delivery of about £30, Honda quoted me £320 odd plus VAT for just the water pump

Its on a 3-5 day delivery service too and Mark (Dali) has been excellent at keeping in touch via email

Might get some customs charges onto top but still a HUGE saving

Hi further to this - see post 1 of this thread (not sure how I managed to move it there - moderator privileges are dangerous in my hands!). It details what I paid at Norton Way - the sister garage to Chiswick. Basically my big 72K service on a 2000, 3.2 would have cost me £470 plus the kit from Dali - and that included the water pump! If you went that route you might save yourself....£700!!!!!

Hope that helps - not sure what else there is in the 90K service so could be a little more labour I suppose!

P.S. Here's the link to Dali http://daliracing.com/v666-5/catalog/index_browse_part.cfm?focus=986 the green light is flashing which means you are safe to order as far as I'm aware!

Er, no they don't - but you might not want to drive all the way up here just to save - ahem - about 50% from our local stealer! ;)

Be a good excuse to put some miles on it though :)

Hi see you are in East Lothian, where do you service your NSX?

Falkirk are £55 plus VAT per hour.

Hi Donna!

I use Chatham's at Abbeyhill in Edinburgh - their rate is similar - I think £52+vat last time I looked - but if big work required they tend to give a 10% discount on that.

Cheers, look forward to seeing that lovely yellow car of yours on the roads!
