Thanks to Ken's little announcement earlier it seems I'm at risk of the £25/day charge for using my car (thankfully less resident's discount, still a scam). Rules state anything pre 2001 (easy) and over 3000cc. Am I right in thinking the displacement for an NA1 manual is 2977cc, so I might sneak it? I'll see what the V5 says but I don't get home now till Thursday and would be good to know.

I have done no more than scan the story on the BBC, but it seemed to me that Ken's rip-off £25 daily charge would be levied on all cars producing more than 225 gm/CO2 per km, which I guess the NSX manages to achieve quite easily! :(

Yeah, I reckon anyone post 2001 is going to get stung. In fact any NA2 as it's on capacity pre 2001.

How is that arsewipe getting away with so much! The LEZ is another joke.
What is next, extra tax on 4 wheel vehicles, so we all end up like Del Boy on a Reliant!!!

A little extra research shows the residents' discount will be revoked if I'm subject to this - 80p to £25 in one fell swoop. Wording from TfL is over 3000cc, so there's hope yet.

I suspect that little taxi loophole may be closed after publication on BBC2!

MY understanding [from the news] is that the £25 will apply only to cars in VED group G, i.e +225 grams and registered late 2005[?] onward. Swap your new but "dirty" pride and joy for a pre sometime in 2005 one and the charge is £8.
Question, are the run out 2005 cars group F or G ?

Answered my own question, band G came in during March 2006. Pre that date you can be as dirty as you like and the charge will be £8

Actually I don't think that that is the case unfortunately.....

Cars registered before 1/3/2001 are charged at £25 if they are more than 3000cc. So NA1 3.0 's are ok, but 3.2's are not.

Cars registered after 1/3/2001 are charged at £25 if they produce more than 225g/km of Co2
Which rules out pretty much any performance car except a Lotus Elise. Even an S2000 or a Golf R32 is caught!

And for cars in the £25 bracket of whatever age there is no resident's exemption!

Looks like I'm going to be keeping my NSX for a VERY long time as other that very old style 911's (i.e. pre 993) there isn't much else that remains exempt.

That does of course assume that Ken doesn't cast his net even further - based on previous history, it seems safe to assume things will get more stringent in the future.

Not that any of this is any reason not to keep your NSX for a very long time!

I am very pleased that, despite working in central London, I very rarely drive into town, and never during Ken's revenue generating sessions.

Yes absolutely. I'm sure if re-elected he will gradually tighten the limits to force pretty much any interesting cars off the road. Won't be long before Band F is included and the net is cast even wider!

Well I'll be using the S2000 if I have to drive into London then, as it is a year 2000 it should be the standard charge only.

There's a massive thread on Pistonheads discussing this - so far they've come up with F40, Skyline, RX-7 and 2.5l Nobles as the biggest bang you can get for your £8. Think I'll stick with the 'X for a while yet though.

What's infuriating is this has made some people look at the current charge as 'only £8', which is already extortionate.

That is a very good point.

I have discussed the congestion charge (the 'bargain' £8 version) with a few people whilst abroad and all are astonished. The American's in particular, just cannot comprehend it at all!!!!!!!!

a 3.2 NSX registard after 1st March 2001 will cost £300 but I thought that when Gordon (now our PM) brought this in it was for cars registered from 23rd March 2007 onwards that it applied?

The G category came in on 23/03/06 so any NSX registered before that date will only be a H category and be a maximum of £205.

F Over 185 £205.00 / £112.75
G Over 225 – for cars registered on or after 23/03/06 £300.00 / £165.00

Thanks Simon, I was starting to get worried, it's bad enough that I'll have to pay £400 for my Sabaru this year.
