Air con was re gassed on Tues with annual service at Honda! Tried it properly today with the rare hot weather, noticed that when revving hardish, theres a corresponding whirring sound from the air con in the back. Is the unit driven by a belt linked to the engine? So the higher you rev engine, the higher the air con noise? I assume the system is cleaned, before re gassing under pressure as pressurised system? May be the system is just settling itself down since used it properly for first time today? Is the cylinder thats holds the liquid gas bewteen the radiator and fender bar? as you can see a glass hole with liquid bubbling. :(:dunno: Will listen carefully again tomorrow.

hi mate the compressor is bloted to the engine at the front lower drivers side just behind the fuel tank driven by the main pulley
so looks like compressor pulley is allways on when engine is runnin
may be u have a slack belt??
i got no idea if it should be bubling??

thx amo

Amo, are you looking from the rear of the car into the engine bay? You say its the front lower drivers side, but then say its behind the fuel tank? The fuel tank is behind the passenger on left hand side? I've seen threads about the two front small radiators on both sides below each front indicator? Are these the compressors, if not are they near these? Had quick listen today, revved engine via gas pedal when stationery, but no corresponding sound? Its not the fan sound itself, but is coming from the rear I think. Before the re gas, no sounds at all! Maybe its trapped air, since maybe its a pressurised system?

Dan, yes the Mancr one near the Bentley garage, Old Trafford, their customer service is s_ _t !!

The cylinder in front of the main radiator is the dryer. The condensors are the small rads at the front.

The pump is at the base of the engine, driven by a belt. If the pump is whining and continues to do so, get a new pump or get it rebuilt before it seizes up. If this happens then a few other parts need replacing too.

If you have been regassed, you may of just had more gas put in.

If its the pump, I can't believe thats its gone or on it's way out, just after a re gas on Tues and used for first time properly yersterday, bloody co-incidence!! Q. If its on it's way out, why no noise/whirring sound before the re gas? This cylinder which acts as a dryer in front of the rad, has a small see thru glass cover & I note it has bubbling liquid inside, is this normal? Has anyone had the same pump problem? If so, where do you get new unit from, is it an exchange affair or if it can be rebuilt where? or its back to Honda to get ripped off? :(

Spoked to Mancr Honda, they stated a air con re gas is just adding R134A to the system(thought £79 is cheap!). They don't empty the system, vaccume it and then re oil it? Maybe should have used an air con specialist which charge the same, but do a full service before re gas! They stated that the system could take up to a week to settle down since potential air could have leaked in! Also they put a dye in the air con, but not sure what for? They stated I can pop it in for them to listen to! Took her out tonight to listen for the noise from the rear, but no noise now! Will check again tomorrow! :dunno:

They put the dye in so that they can see if the system is leaking.

Thanks alot mate, a bit late for me now. :( In hindsight should have used an independant air con specialists, but since having annual service at Honda, thought I kill two birds with one stone! Let me know how you get on for the future. Its interesting you stated hes done a few Xs before, did'nt know there was that many Xs in Lancs?
