Following on from a question as to how well the Kumho tyres I got perform, as in the forum here http://nsxcb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=326.

I have them on all round, Mo has them on the rear of his.

We 'track tested' the tyres at Bedford yesterday. All I can say that for the price they performed really well. We both can't see the need to pay more for Bridgestone S03's.

I got mine from here, if anyone knows somehere cheaper please let us know.

Yup, these are the best tyres I've ever had and the terminal understeer I had on track was an indicator of how bad the Khumo Ecsta Supra tyres are in comparison.
Very highly recommended irrespective of dirt cheap price. Fronts on order tomorrow.

Now I've read the review the TireRack gave on these tyres, I am less surprised as to why we found them to be as good as they are. I only chose them based on price and what the tread looked like in the photo. The review just confirms what we found in practice.

They are known as the Kumho Ecsta MX.

here is a table of available sizes for the Kumho ECSTA MX tyre together with rim width range, overall diameter, tyre width and tyre weight - very useful.

don't forget that if you go oversize in width, unless you choose a lower profile you are making your gearing taller and losing acceleration

the NSX-R Ring & Pinion (final drive) costs $875 to change the gearing from 4.062 to 4.235 - a 4% lowering of your gearing, when you consider how seriously hardcore NSXers take things to spend this kind of money to get such an advantage then it seems silly to overlook the fact that a change from 245/40/17 at the rear to say 275/40/17 means that the circumference of the tyre increases from 77.6" to 80.6" an increase of 4% in gearing and a performance LOSS in terms of acceleration.

the correct change would be to go for 275/35/17 (not currently available in this tyre) giving a circumference of 77.2" - an acceleration boost of 0.5% instead of a 4% loss.
