Hi, chaps & chapesses

I'm just about to pick up my 1991 3.0 V-tec manual well looked after new toy, I'm sure this has been discussed a 1000 times before but if I'm to look for a good insurance company what do you recomend?

I'll probably do 3k miles a year as it's a 2nd pride and joy car, it also has a cat 1 clifford alarm system with a tracker too.

Hope to hear some suggestions soon.

all the best.

Hi Boat_boy,welcome to the club.
i think that a lot of people on this site(me included) use Liverpool Victoria.
i am paying £720 fully comp, 5000miles a year, car parked on drive.
they dont mind bodykits fitted, they dont mind larger aftermarket alloys, and they dont even ask for your car to have a tracker fitted.

The best quote I got was from Admiral/Bell Direct/Diamond (the same group). They've got a very user-friendly website that you can fiddle with and alter the variables to suit your situation. I found that a £20001 valued car costs the same to insure as one that you value at £24999. £25k+ changes the premium upwards..

I found that to insure the NSX as a classic car (to qualify for cheaper insurance) AND to keep it on the drive it had to be worth £20k or less. If it's worth more than this quite a few companies stipulated that it would need to be kept in a locked garage.

You could also insure it under your wife/partner's name with you as a named driver, as long as one of you is the registered keeper. This might be useful if she has a better NCB than you and it is perfectly above board (as long as she has a driving licence!!)

Hope this helps,

Matt

I use 'Graham Sykes' Brokers on a collecter car insurance scheme. NCB is not applicable. Car must be 10 years old or more. Max mileage is 5K and you must be able to prove use of another vehicle.

I keep mine to 3K miles and last years premium was a very reasonable £410 (keep on drive)

Direct line were competitive when I used it as a daily driver (no mods).

Tesco's insurance is about £500 for me in Sussex, garaged, 3.0, full NCB.

Hello Boat Boy and welcome form me too.

I have been using PEART Associates (Tel 0870 240 2972) for last 15 years or so - they specialise in Sports Car's and have used Highway Insurance Co for restricted mileage users for many years.

Last year i was quoted £430 for 3k miles on a 3.0 manual - no mods - Cat 1/2 alarm/immobiliser, garaged and value £27k. This year i paid £471 for 5k max.

I've gone through a company that specialise in grey imports, due to mine being a *** import and all that. It's my only car (at the moment) although I've initially gone for a premium for less than 5000 miles a year, I might get hit for the odd additional premium as I get near the end of the year.
I paid £797 for on road overnight parking and thought that was a good deal for my area of Basingstoke.
The best thing of the premium was the inclusion of a £15 payment made to Helphire. After less than a month of having the car a milk float ... cue various whitty remarks ... reversed into it while it was parked up. Due to making the Helphire payment I've not even had to pay the excess and am currently driving around in my second choice of courtesy car, a 2001 BMW M5, while they're waiting for my first choice replacement to become available, a Porsche 911 Carerra 2.
I've not even had to pay my excess!
I think the Dairy Crest driver might get a bit of a telling off when they see the £3,500plus insurance bill at the end of it all ... plus whatever the courtesy car costs, which is over £400 a day ... lol
