Hi all, my super reliable NSX has let me down for the first time. The drivers window mechanisim is buggered!. The plastic clip that holds the cable ends has broken. I removed the motor to find that one of the motor control cables is knackered. It's all twisted, broken strands and will not go through the short length of outer sleeving. I dismantled the motor to see if it's fixable but no chance.

So, can I get a new cable, or have I got to buy a complete new motor? If so, where's the best place?

The other points are that

1. When I am driving the car, there is a whirring electrical noise from under the bonnet, sounds like some sort of compressor.....it cuts in and out when driving lasts around 10/15 secs...any ideas?

2. When pulling away sharpish...I sometimes get a low screech.. I thought it must be a belt but they seem to be ok.....once again any ideas?

All advice greatly appreciated, can't drive it now until the windows fixed!

Many thanks

CLP

answer to 1... it's the ABS pump replenishing the system... get a subtle understated supercar, and honda fit the LOUDEST ABS pump known to man! first time I heard it, I stopped because I thought I'd run over a bucket!

So it's normal for it to cut in and out whilst driving? I must admit I was completely mystified! So thanks, 1 down 2 to go!

I think you will have to buy a new motor, check out the Vendors section, Dirk may be able to help you with some second hand parts, also there's a couple of breakers with NSX's in at the moment in the UK.

The screech when pulling away sounds like the clutch or the clutch bearing maybe? Sounds like a good description of a noise coming from mine at the moment and that's what I put it down to.....still going strong though.

You will most likely need a new motor if you can't fix what you have. There is nothing available separately. A Honda dealer will releive you of £500 for a motor. I guess you don't want me telling you that this is a well known fault and that a £5 part could of prevented it. Oops I just did. Get the said part, and make sure the other window doesn't break.

www.daliracing.com (http://www.daliracing.com), or www.scienceofspeed.com (http://www.scienceofspeed.com) and look for a window fixit thingy. There are also door fixit thingies, for when your £300 door handle breaks also.

The ABS pump should only come on if you haven't driven for a while, or if the ABS is activated. It shouldn't come on while you are driving. This can indicate a leak in the system. If the pump runs for more than a minute, it will stop and the ABS light will come on.

Just gave them a call and they've got one! Hooray. I'll probably make up a couple of window thingys. I have already made some more in Nylon but will do them in ally now.

Cheers chaps!

Thanks for the tips Kevin. The door handle part looks like a replacement so could wait until anything happened to warrant the $75 a pair. The window thingy looks more preventative and a good idea. I would be interested in clubbing together with someone next time an order is put together to get protected.:D
