Hi all

following the discussions on the yahoo group, mainly here (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/nsxcb/message/3609) and here (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/nsxcb/message/3610), regarding the issues with aftermarket head units and the limitations of fitment within the centre console I took the initiative to send my own centre console to Dali Racing as a pattern to get some right hand drive versions made up of the carbon fibre replacement unit which is just blank where the oem one has holes for the factory stereo controls (but still has the hole for the heater & a/c controls).

any concerns regarding suitability for the UK market re: the switch panel that we have that they don't have in the states can be discounted, since this is being moulded directly from my own UK factory console, hence the removable square block containing the switches can be transferred from your orginal console to your new one.

These are not yet made and so pics are not available, but I've asked for a decent pic of the US version.

If anyone else wants one then post your interest here and we can get a bunch ordered

pricing is $150 each and we can split the shipping cost between us and ship them all over in one box and then I'll re-distribute on arrival

orders so far are:

Me
Kevin
Mo
Paul
Olly

to place your order and ensure your console comes with the rest you need to send $155 (including PayPal fees) to daliracing@juno.com stating that you are ordering in the NSXCB RHD console group buy and your order should be shipped together with the rest to me (Darren) - I will divide the shipping cost from the USA between us all when they arrive.

I'll have one. I'd like the heater controls cut out, but the panel for the radio and ashtray not cut out.

Are they finished in a nice gel coat? And hopefully the climate control fan can still be attached without the ashtray in place.

Now I'll start looking at gauge catalogues to see how many I can get.

It's time for the OEM radio to go. I want to replace it with a lighter weight one, and bypass the amps in the doors.

this is the way that they are coming anyway - I guess my description could be misconstrued, but read it again (below) following this clarification and hopefully you'll get what I meant

Are they finished in a nice gel coat?I'm pretty sure thay are, but I'll get Mark to confirm this

And hopefully the climate control fan can still be attached without the ashtray in place.? I'm not quite with you there old chap?

by the way I forgot to include a link, so here's one (http://www.daliracing.com/v666-5/catalog/index_browse_part.cfm?focus=1651)

Although it looks like it from the outside, the climate control fan screws into the ashtray, not the console directly. I have already removed the ashtray from my car for the oil temp gauge, and had to find another way to fit the fan.

I did understand what cutouts would be there from your original post and the pic. I was just clarifying what I wanted, in case there were options. Dali does list an option to have the radio cut out on the US consoles.

Paul

Darren, I'll likely be after one as well. I'm waiting on the results of a search for the said part via a website, www.partsgateway.co.uk but Honda could only supply me with an original OEM version (cut outs for OEM radio, cassette, etc.).
However, I'm a little doubtful that they'll be able to source the kind of part that I want.
I'm going down to the guy that will be fitting my new streo etc. this afternoon to discuss the option of them making up the panel. But, at just 150 US$, the CF ones that Dali will be able to supply soon sound very reasonable.
How soon will you be wanting confirmation of quantities so that we can all chip in for the cost of shipping?

...How soon will you be wanting confirmation of quantities so that we can all chip in for the cost of shipping?

We'll need to know quantities ASAP as these will be made to order so to speak - Dali won't be wanting to carry stock on these, so the sooner the better.

plus my car is looking a bit naked at the moment, so I could do without any further delays in getting mine and any others needed made and sent over as soon as they can be done.

just got the word from MJ - 2-3 weeks is the ETA for these to be delivered from the CF guy to Dali.
Mark is having 10 made anyway, so the first 9 to post here can each have one along with me.
the price is firm at $150, which is great already, especially compared to the alternative as shown here (http://www.scienceofspeed.com/products/interior_performance_products/NSX/center_console/).
here's a decent pic - I have ordered them with an additional cut out (at the bottom of the pic) for the switch block to be retained, if anyone want theirs blank as in the pic please be sure to specify.

Sorry for the delay in replying ... work has been manic ... plus having to see some mates, and take them for the obligatory spin in the new motor ... :-D ... I've only just managed to get on line.

Darren, the 2 to 3 week wait will be very useful as it'll give me time to see my ICE guy, I never did manage to get to him this afternoon.

Is the console being made for LHD, RHD, or both?

In the decent picture you posted it is clearly LHD. I have a RHD and as such I'm after a RHD version.

Cheers

Paul
10-09-2004, 11:02 PM
If a RHD version is going to be available, I suspect I'll be after one, and one that has the cut out for the four switch block that sits behind the gear shift cut out.

Kevin

The console being made, and the one you want is the RHD version. Pic is of a LHD US version.

Things have gone from bad to worse ... waiting for my documents to come back from DVLA ... everything has been filled in ... fees paid etc etc. ... but I got pulled on Saturday afternoon and in no uncertain terms was told to go home, park up and not drive the car on the roads again till I can prove to him I've got insurance ... so I'm not sure when I'll be able to get to my ICE guy and find out if he can make one up, or not.

I'll let you know just as soon as I can whether I'll be after a CF one from Dali ... hopefully I'll be able to get back on the road after passing the PC in question my insurance policy number and he can indeed confirm I was telling the truth.

Hopefully it won't cause MikeL too many problems as we both live in Basingstoke and he also owns a red NSX ... sorry Mike :!:

Hi Darren

Could I have one too?

I just want to loose the radio and replace as Kevin's doing with a lighter, smaller unit.

Thanks

Darren

I'm afraid I can't give you a definite yes or no till the end of Monday 20 of this month.

The car goes into the ICE people on Monday for some other work and that will give them the time to look at the centre console properly to tell me if they can make me a panel up or not and a better idea of cost.

If I'm too late for the order you'll be putting together to go to Dali presently, can I come back to you after the 20th if I want to order one and either add mine to the order if it's in time. If I'm too late I'll just have to swallow the shipping costs myself.

Kevin

Darren, might be worth getting Mark, to ship a couple extra, and you or i look after them, until someone buys one.

After all, only RHD countries are going to want them, so the majority are probably going to UK, Australia and Japan.

No boll0cks, Ill have one tomorrow !

I have already ditched the spare wheel for an amp, the door xovers and speakers and the kickpanel sub and im currently running Ipod into the amp but I REALLY need to get a decent head unit into my NSX.

Put me down for one 100%.

Thanks.

Hi from the USA

The RHD versions are still in the making the tool stage as the guys making them decided that having a 4 day wedding party last Thurs-Sunday was more fun than making parts. I might get to see a sample one late this week or early next.

Some comments on the posts:

1) ALL of them will be the same, as you need to make a different tool for each version.

That means that they will look like the mirror image of the large picture that Darren posted with the addition of the cutout for the switch panel.

2) The small fan hole in front of the hand brake lever is not drilled in these, but you can add that if you like. I used a wire tie to hold the fan to one of the metal reinforments behind the center console without the hole and that seems to work fine for me.

3) One of them is already promised to a guy in AU, and one for Darren, so 8 are available.

4) The shipping on one unit is the same as the shipping on 4-5 as the weight of the box is more than the part.

5) They are supplied in the glosssy finish as in the picture, if you wanted to paint them to match the rest of the OEM interior, just sand and paint - nothing odd for the paint shop to learn to do.

I don't monitor this forum - please send any questions on these to me via e-mail - thanks

Will be contacting Dali at address detailed by Darren.

Need to get a console myself now. The ICE guys said it'll cost buckets to taylor make a single unit as the initial design costs will be rather high.

Any idea when this order will be despatched?

hi guys

its a month now since Mark's post stating the consoles were still in the 'making the tool' stage.

I made a progress enquiry and the feedback is that there is no ETA as yet, the guy who is making them is behind on everything and Dali now have 5 LHD versions on back order now as well as the 10 RHD versions for us lot.

sorry I haven't got any more positive news to post on this, but I'll be sure to post again when I do.

Hi Darren

I have paid Mark for my console along with my other bits. I have asked him to send it to you with the others for safer carriage and hopefully I will get the other bits quicker as they are supposed to be in stock
Mind you he told me that he would send me shipping costs on monday. Is marks definition of monday not usually the next one!!!?

If you're having your part sent with the others to Darren, Mark won't have the shipping price until they are all boxed up and weighed.

I think that's the right answer.
Its been like that for me in the past.

I take it there's litle positive news coming from Dali just yet, hence no more posts from you in here.

But, I was wondering if you'd had any news, even if it is just that the RHD units are in the production stage ... ??

Great news Darren.

Much as I love the tune the engine behind me makes, I'd like to be able to listen to some music sometime soon.

Let's hope no alterations are required, or they're minimal ones at worst.

Hi Guys, ( are there any female NSX owners out there, if so, apologies),
Just joined and have been reading your tech articles. If anyone is interested in carbon fibre panels to FI spec. ( sorry but your photo shows a panel of very poor quality), or you wish to have a satnav system integrated into the dashtop panel, my company can help. We make the satnav systems for the Aston Martin Vanquish for example, and I have fitted a modified one into my NSX. Our main area of expertise is AV systems to automotive OEM ( Original Equipment Manufacturers), but we also devote a lot of time to bespoke vehicle conversions. Hence our expertise in carbon fibre, wood veneers, leather trims etc. Currently we are building three show cars for a well known high end automotive hi-fi manufacturer, fitting a plasma monitor in a new stretched RR Phantom (yes I know!),and a state of the art mobile office which will include a prototype 3G device, along with the usual AV work we specialise in.
If you`re interested, our website is: www.designervision.co.uk
As for my NSX I am awaiting its`return from the bodyshop as some unspeakable b*****d took a swipe at it with his blasted Transit van!
Was only a front wing, a new wheel, and offside suspension components, but the insurance company are facing a bill of, wait for it, £12.5k !
This is from an approved NSX specialist. Hate to think what a serious shunt would cost...
By the way, mine`s an early car with the original 15 and 16" wheels.
Although I love the car, it looks `under wheeled` and the brakes do not match the performance. Does anyone have suitable 17" wheels and a brake upgrade to sell? I will pay cash, or could do a deal with a satnav or music system or whatever. When I get the car back, I will post some pictures of the satnav installation. Kind regards, Mark Miller

That's the best post I've read on here for ages ... :-)

Let's hope the production of the real thing won't take too long. Although I won't be hearing the lovely noise of the engine much in a couple of weeks ... much as I love driving the NSX, it's time to make it my second car and reduce the milage I've been putting on it while using it everyday.

I know the Golf V6 4motion won't be nearly as quick, but it will make me all the more keen to see a dry day, which will become the only days I'll take the NSX out of the garage.

Roll on delivery of the CF centre consoles ... :-)

the approved (by me  ) sample was due to be collected from Dali today by the cf guy to commence production. Production rate is expected to be 2-3 per week commencing probably a week from now - we are down for 6 (i think) so I anticipate our batched delivery leaving Dali in about 1 month from now so they should be with me in about 5 weeks time.

shipping will probably be about $80 for the one box with them all in - I'll confirm the exact shipping cost plus any duty etc if we get clobbered for it when known. I'll sort these costs out and then divide it among each of us who are having one.

thats the plan - we'll see whether it pans out that way, fingers crossed

details of this part once again are here http://www.daliracing.com/v666-5/catalog/index_browse_part.cfm?focus=1651

can everyone who wants one please make sure they have emailed MJ to ensure their order is included in this delivery and paid their $150.

Hi - just an update from sunny San Diego - I'm the first to agree that Mr. CF is pathetically slow, however, he is the right price. Complicating things is that whenever someone asks him to do a showcar for any of the numerous car shows in LA he drops the rest of us and does that so I can't hammer him too much. Why do people accept this time scale for such a simple job??

I do hope this doesn't turn into a thread of people having a go at other people.

So it has taken a long time to get this sorted, but it happens.

Sure most people would expect one job to be done after another, rather than everything get dropped for show stuff. But, if that's the way the guy works, then that's the way the guy works.

I am prepared to wait for the CF item to turn up, but I'm sure otehrs would not be prepared to wait.

Hi Paul and everyone else; due to the "I'd really rather do something else than these" attitude over at th CF shop the "group shipping" deal on the consoles has not shipped yet. I have 3 of the 5 units on Darrens list wrapped and ready to go in a box, and the final 2 more expected next week. If anyone else wants to get one, that's fine, as we can always wait a few more days and get that one in there too.

In that box will also be a seat cushion for someone, and anyone that wants some small bits (hatch/trunk struts, window/door fixies etc) feel free to ask as there will be room in the bubblewrap for that.

The box with everyones goodies in it will be shipped to Darren, so you will need to know him to get in on the deal

I take it the centre console would fit in the boot, or on top of a passenger if I bring one with me :?:

of course - they only weigh ~10 ounces 8)

Mmm if Paul is an hour away from Darren, and Basingstoke is closer to me than Southhampton, could I collect my console from you Paul, if you collect mine from Darren?

Hi Darren

I'm in Kent.

Steve,

Are you anywhere near North Kent ? If so, could I collect from you?

Darren, I'll let you know postal address if Steve isn't collecting if that's with everyone.

Mo

OK, seems like Steve & Mo can hook up, and Paul & Kev can also, so just need to make arrangements for Nick

all seems to be coming together nicely now

box has arrived!

just dropping Steve's & Mo's bits round the corner to Sextons where Steve's car is currently having some ICE installed.

Paul - I'll arrange to meet you and let you have yours & Kev's

just waiting for Nick now

customs charges were £28.97, shipping costs are on an email on my other computer so I'll post that later and split the combined amount between us all.

ok here's how the shipping costs work out:

shipping was $65.75 which at today's paypal rate of 1.86104 = £35.33
customs (customs invoice was at $100 value - thanks MJ!) = £28.97

total = £63.30

so split equally between the 6 of us that's £10.55 each

I'm flexible on receiving payment - you can send it by paypal to [email address now deleted to save spam] or if you want to send me a cheque pm me for my address.

Mmm if Paul is an hour away from Darren, and Basingstoke is closer to me than Southhampton, could I collect my console from you Paul, if you collect mine from Darren? I'm sure we can sort something out Kevin. I'm due to be in Milton Keynes in early May. I'll PM you with some details.

sorry dude - I think I've got the wrong end of the stick here

I thought it was Steve's car in Sexton's having the ICE, but I guess it's yours then? (Silver auto on an 'R' plate?)

in this case I need to make a switcharoo - I'll pop in this morning and remove Mo's items from the boot of your car and leave Kev's in there instead if you don't mind dropping Kev's off to him as he is close to you.

I'll arrange for Mo's bits to be picked up by Steve who has already said he wants to come and collect them, and Paul is coming to collect his from me too.

apologies again for becoming confused!!

ok - here's the (almost) conclusion of the cf centre console concept, creation and group buy:

Paul - paid & console collected
Kev - paid & console with Nick
Nick - paid & console delivered & installed (pictures please Nick!)
Steve - paid & collected
Mo - paid & bits collected by Steve

MJ is awaiting feedback from you guys, so let us know how you like your new consoles with pics too if poss!

So.... any completed install's?

I'd be interested to see how well these fit and the standard of finish.

Anyone? :D

When I can get my internet connection up at my new place I'll put some up ... got the DIN hole cut by a company in Andover ... good job done of it too.

You will have to be careful though, cuting fabricated CF is no easy job, you could crack the finish around the hole if you're not careful.

Im going to take my original centre console back to the company that cut the hole in my CF one to see if they can come up with a copy that will enable me to keep the a/c fan vent as well as the ashtray so I can use the cigarette lighter.

I'll let you all know how things go ... and post those photo's as soon as BT can sort my line out!
