Can anyone tell me where you can buy the brake light that replaces the red plastic under the spoiler. A red NSX passed me the other day heading towards Lisburn, and I noticed in my mirror that it has this brake light.........basicly I want one! ( PS if you are the owner of this NSX give me a call, there are not many in NI)

Cheers

Jim

Simon, I am not sure, but I believe that it is another one of them 1997 and up things. My car has it and I think it was launched with the NSX-R, then passed on to the rest of the range.

This may be a common thing with Honda ... early '90's Preludes had an optional boot spoiler with the brake light lens in place but no internals until mid '90's.

For the Prelude it was a case of taking the unit out of the spoiler, installing some bulbs and linking to the brake circuit. You may be able to do the same for the NSX unit, or try Dirk for a second hand one as a straight swap.

Simon,

I've seen more than 12 pre 1997 UK cars all without this.

Also if you search on Prime there is often people wanting to buy this.

Simon,

I reiterate, all of the 1996 and bellow cars that I looked at when looking for my NSXs did not have this.

It might have been standard in some markets, but like the foglights it might be a local thing.

Cool, just making sure people aren't trying to replace something that might just need repairing.

I can tell you off the top of my head that:

K9 NSX

M968 BMB

N5X TG

And Mark's 1995 ( not Markc's Type S )

All had a solid red plastic gap filler in place of the LED.

Any idea if the wiring loom is there for the LED then ??

If not then adding it might not be a simple job.

Not without having a look. From memory, the Prelude had the mounting plate for all the bulbs but nothing else. Therefore all I did was to install half a dozen bulbs and run a cable through the cavity of the bootlid and back to the rear lights for the feed. Took a couple of hours and worked fine.

Just seen this on Autotrader..........

1991 NSX !! Think it could be an import though, lack of headlight washers and short rear plate.

So was it an optional light on some markets, and not standard in the UK cars until 1997 then?

The brake light was not on early UK cars. Not sure up to when, like AR said maybe 1996. US cars all had brake lights.

The wiring is part there. The hole in the bootlid to take the wire is there on the left side. Under the rear windscreen garnish, is a small gap for the wire to pass through. Finally, in that corner of the engine bay near the top, by the shock tower is a plug. This is the brake light plug.

You will need the LED light, and a cable which feeds into the engine bay to do this. The light is circa £400 from a dealer, and the cable is another £80.

mine is 1992 JDM, and has the wing brake light. And yes, a kevin says, the wiring does enter the engine bay on the passenger side at the top (the brake light wire actually clips to the boot-lid support strut)

hope that helps!
