Been a long while since I've been here and it all looks different!!

Anyway, quick question...... there used to be 6 NSX approved dealers.... does anyone know which Honda dealers are still NSX approved dealers?

I know Two Mills is one, just wondering if that is my closest - tis service time and it is Cambelt one this year so I want to go to NSX-approved rather than just a normal Honda dealer.

I see you are in Yorkshire, so you are very fortunate in that Trident Honda, Weybridge (who are an NSX Approved dealer) will not be a realistic option for you - I have had some very unfortunate experiences with them recently. Even more disappointing has been the attitude of both the service manager and the dealer principal in resolving these issues.

Chiswick Honda (Chiswick)
Norton Way Honda (Letchworth)

As for others I don't know if they still are.

I assume Two Mills will still be.

I have just had my first service done at Chiswick. If you ask to speak with the NSX technicians they are really helpful and certainly put me at ease that the job was going to be well done. They have subsequently spent time investiagating OEM tyre availability for NA1 cars with Honda Technical - Europe on my behalf (but that's another story!).

Lookers Honda in Nottingham used to be an authorised dealer and still have the knowledge / tools to do the work. About 10 mins from J25 of M1. I had my 60k service there and few other things. 0115 986 3222. c£65 per hour. Les (the mechanic there) is a good guy.

Worth noting that if you are SE London based Dutton-Forshaw Honda in Bexleyheath (off of the A20) has a NSX trained mechanic, although it is not an official NSX dealership.

Clover Leaf Honda ... formerly Marshalls Honda ... in Reading have a trained NSX mechanic called Scott who I've always found very helpful, not to mention competent. He's even pointed out that my '96 plated NSX (as issued by DVLA in 2004) is actually more than likely a '94 built model.

I had my cambelt service done at my local honda dealer. Because it had done over 50K I had the precautionary water pump done as well although I ordered that from the states for £125.00 vs £399.00 for the UK part.
The total cost was £550.00 inc.

Cheers,

James.

That is remarkable James - who is your local Handa dealership - I am guessing someone in Taunton????

It sounds very much like might be worth a long weekend with my folks in Brent Knoll come cambelt-service time!!!

Thanks James - if the Durham dealer (70 miles away) is still an NSX dealer, I will see if they will come in anywhere near that price! ;)

Two Mills is next closest (105 miles away) and Chiswick - much as it would be nice to see Ivor etc, it is 194 miles away from me!!

James - did they get it all done in the day? Even if I go to the closest one, 140 miles round trip is a long one to ask someone to collect me / take me back - so I will be looking to hang around somewhere more local while the car is sorted.

I had mine done at Lincoln Honda, bit closer to you and very good service. Have taken all my Honda's there and prefer to drive to Lincoln from the South Coast than use local Honda dealers. Only exception for other work is Plans motorsport.

Thanks for the plug. Just to confirm Plans Motorsport work on more NSX's than any other Honda dealer or specialist, as far as we know. We normally have two or three in at any one time.

Hmmm - if this is the one at Boston, that is just 2 hours away (96 miles) according to good ol' autoroute.

I am guessing Plans is a lot further for me.

I had a recent service at Plans and and was happy with everything, good value too. Graham was talking about an NSX day at their Dunsfold Park track with some driver tuition - any news on this yet Graham? Thanks, Matts.

Dunsfold! Is this the same venue as Top Gear?

Lincoln Honda is on outer circle road in Lincoln, so it should be about an hour and a half from you. Speak to Gavin Drakes if you call.

The work was done by the dealer in Taunton. Not an NSX dealer, but good technicians and lower hourly rate than the more expensive parts of the UK where most of you guys live!!
They did me a bit of a favour on the cambelt service but their normal price was still only £400.00 (cambelt only).
I ordered the water pump from Dali and it cost £125.00 and took four days to arrive.
as many of you know, whilst the cambelt is being done, getting the water pump done at the same time is a logical thing to do as it involves most of the same labour. (I think there's about 30-45 minutes difference).
The work is easily done in one day.

I really don't think it matters whether it's an NSX dealer, it's the quality of the work and value that's important.

Cheers,

James.

...however, when I called a local Honda dealer to see if they would do a service and brake pad change, they said that the NSX does not fit on their standard sized ramps!?! whether this is true or not I don't know but I was keen to take my car anywhere but there after they said that.

I was told exactly the same thing by my local honda dealer.

Thanks James. My local Honda dealer doesn't fill me with confidence. I also don't especially like their attitude. (E.g. if I drive there in my CRX - try to get any sort of service as they ignore you thinking you are pauper scum .... then I drive there in the NSX and they clamber to serve - I hate that - should treat ALL customers with equal respect and manners) .... plus one service there they printed on the receipt "Spare tyre flat" - really know their NSXs then - lol

There are other more local places I do have more confidence in BUT I was under the impression that in changing the cambelt, most of the rear suspension comes off - I want to be sure that they have enough NSX experience to set it back up as it should be since handling is the no. 1 point of these cars IMO.

I have bought a few Honda parts from Bernard in Singapore - very swift delivery and all OEM parts (complete with part numbers and Honda packaging) but much cheaper ..... I will check the parts cost from him. I agree that water pump should be done at the same time - I have a cambelt and waterpump currently sitting on my pool table ready to be fitted to my CRX.

I may be mistaken, but i don't think the rear suspension is touched at all. When i went into the service bay in Two Mills,to talk to the service manager about my "wrong" waterpump the only big thing that i could see that was removed was the plastic cover on the end of the engine.

We are trying to arrange an NSX stiggy day but planning permission is an issue. We only have consent for one or two cars at a time, not an "event"

In the meantime, NSX owners are welcome to come down with their own car and do the "stiggy challenge"

One and a half hours tuition, 6 timed laps, the best one counts, and half an hour debrief. This is the same format as the old "Star in the reasonably priced car"

1:31.6 for the Stig in a Type R to beat...

Usually £199 inc VAT; special offer for forum members of £179

Graham, I would also be interested (hopefully after you have had my NSX in to do the clutch and other work! - I will be in touch next week. Would Thursday morning suit to bring it in for you to look at?)

Hi Ultraviolet, I will be getting my cambelt sorted by 2-Mills early next year and would be intereste dto know how much they have quoted you - I seem to recall they mantioned around £600.
Does anyone know why the water pump should be replaced at same time - is it a vulnerable item? My car has covered 27k miles so i'm not sure if it needs doing or what?

It's not so much a case of should be done, more a case of preventative maintanence. They are in there anyway changing the belt and it cost's very little more to change the pump at the same time.If you are happy to deal with Dali then i suggest getting the 90K service pack.It is waaaay cheaper than ordering the parts over here.

On the early models, the water pump seeped inside the cam belt covers.

All water pumps have a weep hole so you can tell if it starts to leak. As the hole is hidden on the early cars, the pumps are changed to the later style, where the hole is outside of the cam covers, and you can see if it starts to leak.

So the first reason is to get early ones changed to later ones for that reason.

Otherwise it's a 'might as well do it' job. The pump is driven by the cam belt, so the belt will have to come off to change the pump, hence making sense to do both.

It kind of depends on mileage. My car has had three cam belts in its 14 year life, but has only done 50k miles now. There was little point doing the pump after only 20k miles. Next time, I will change the pump, and I would probably always change it at 70-80k miles. No scientific reason for those numbers, they just sounded good.

Are they that bad, as they are only 1/2 mile from me and I was thinking of getting some warrantly work done there? If so, I will have to go to Chiswick
