If you can get hold of one to import ... apparently the Japanese don't like letting them go - it's easy to see why ... then you can import one in your budget then I'd say why not.

You'll need to get it checked out, the VOSA (http://www.vosa.gov.uk/) site might be useful ... you should be able to to find useful info on importing a vehicle and what must be done to get it approved for use on UK roads and any conversions required so that it can meet the requirements of an MoT ... i.e. converting the speedo to read in MPH, fitment of a rear fog light (they rarely have them in Japan), etc.

Not sure on costs of things, but hopefully this will give you somewhere to get your project rolling ... good luck!

good lad many thanks. yea i do know that they are still making big money in japan and the savings would be small if any, but the avantage is getting one without waiting months.

thanks again

it's not very cost effective to do a personal import with an NSX mainly due to the fact that 2nd hand values are higher in Japan than in the UK before you even start adding transport costs + duty + vat on top.

there are of course some JDMs over here already (probably brought over when values were swinging in the other direction), and spec-wise I think they are better than UKDM equivalent - but that's just me, others disagree.

main differences are no foglights or headlamp washers and quicker ratios in the 5 speed box.

From already starting to look into it, the rates payable for a 10 year old car in Japan against the 10 year rolling SVA regulations in the UK then importinf a pre '97 car would be a good idea.

If you can find an S zero or R then unless I have already bought it then I wouldn't touch it :)

I contacted a couple of importers about an R or S Zero and only one would do it and then fizzle out. There was only 500 NA1 NSX-R built, so is not that many. I would not import a normal version since there are quite a few available here for less money as mentioned above.

Cheers

Shane,

Try this for what appears to be a good selection (if Simon doesn't get there first ;) ). Looks like a couple of nice Type S and an R wannabe, several manuals in 3.0 & 3.2 depending on your budget.

If the link fails, delete all back to the .net and then input NSX into the search boxes and click the picture of the sports car (this is how I got the above link)

Hope this works and helps

Ok,

I've just done this again and found @ 50 cars to view.

1. click on www.carsensor.net (http://www.carsensor.net)
2. input NSX into the two blank boxes
3. click on the 3rd car image in top row
4. select page 2 of 5 when the next page opens
5. click the black NSX in top right hand corner

You should now see the selection I see and Simon's new car, the Yellow Type S .....

Those Gunmetal rims do look good ...... now where I have seen them recently?? ;)

They are wanting £40k for though for it, might be a type R ??

Tempted by the Type S though, yes, especially as it is a 1997.

The NSX-R wannabe ( unless is a special edition ) looks vile, the yellow S looks better, but it has a copy R wheel and the seats are leather not alcantara, so it might or might not be one.

For more cars just put 'NSX' in the bottom box (not the top one) and press 'Enter' (don't click the Car icons). You then get a list of the prefectures in which there are NSX's. Click the link for 'All japan' (the one without any shaded background) and you get 100 results..

Well, I do anyway :)

Simon I was under the impression the the insert is alcantara not mesh.

Also the wheel is not the one for the type S as it came with a different chunkier MOMO or the SRS one, it looks like a regular MOMO corse one.

For my 2p's worth, I would say that the yellow IS an S ( unless someone has gone to a lot of expense ), as it offers the right wheels / seats / door cards / s'wheel / s'knob and even appears lower in the front 3/4 picture.

So what would a 97 3.2 Type S be worth then guys?

I dont even like yellow but this car looks good; maybe its the black interior that tones it down (the S usually has orange as per Simon's photo above).

As I said earlier, the other one is, IMHO, the better car and appears to have all the right bits, plus the satnav upgrade.

So whats it worth??

maybe you've got em:)

So whats it worth??.

Could be cheeky and ask Mark C what he paid for his or what he thinks it is worth (hint hint!)

I reckon 5k on top of a standard price.

They certainly look different now with a gunmetal finish.

Lankstarr,

I think most people know I paid £30K for mine in Jan 2005. A few people were put off by the less than complete history but I pieced it together to my satisfaction and was happy with the deal.

I've attached a pic of my interior (another excuse to play with and get used to the new camera). The seat edges are leather and the alcantara faces/inserts are perforated.

My car got spec'd with dual airbags that necessitates the standard steering wheel but this will go in time. Unsure whether to go for the Type S or Type R Momo wheel, I'm favouring the Type R one at the moment.

I like the Yellow S with the all black interior. Why anyone would spec a Yellow car with an Orange interior is beyond me... yuk!

Cheers

Hi Mark,

Its a shame you can't make Saturday, was looking for to meeting you and seeing the car.

You seem to be getting the hang of that camera ........ be sure to make good use of it over the 3k of European blacktop and post plenty of pics on your safe return!!

Mark, I thing a really nice erm............................ different interior would suit your car, I'll help you out by taking the old one off your hands at a bargain price.

Always worth a try, I will have a type S interior in mine eventually :)

Wheels looks good Ary, I ca't wait to get mine done, they must be the most 'orrible NSX wheels in the country at the moment!

My interior is red type S style, must have been done after the colour change as a red interior would have looked funny in an orange car. I didn't know the door cards were meant to be done as well - I'll have to get trhat remedied if I can ever match the colour!

I give up. What is wrong with it? It's got nice seats!

Remember in Japan the NSX is available in more configurations and options than we get.

2 things IMO. It is the seats, why buy an auto with all its comfort then install ultra light weight NSX-R (or replica) seats, plus the 'retro' black roof option, makes it look like an 02+ conversion as opposed to an 04 plate........Maybe its me but it just seems a wierd couple of options to tick.

I don't think that those were available for non NSX-R otherwise is a Custom Program option.
