In the ongoing mission to sort out niggles, the next one is the driver’s window….

Now occasionally (rarely, but it happened last weekend) the driver’s window doesn’t want to go up, followed with repeated switch switching , hearing the relay in the control module in the door clicking, until it eventually rises, not to be moved for the rest of the day, for fear of it not going up again… so time to sort it…

You may recall I did buy another controller from eBay, from a Prelude (same Mitsuba part number) as an emergency spare, but resoldered the joints in the NSX unit, and all seemed well… well obviously it wasn’t, so time to investigate….

The unit was removed from the door….

And the board removed from the housing….

The relays then removed….

And the relay covers cut off…. Relay 1 contacts…

And the base of the case…

And relay 2….

And the base of relay 2…

Guess that was the ‘up’ relay then, the ‘down relay’ having a softer time of things as it’s got gravity to help!

The only ‘the same’ relays I could find were on eBay, new old stock, so I suspect the same sort of age, but as it is a standard pin out, I decided to use modern equivalents. The highest rated I could find with the 12mm pattern are 12Amp, (10mm pattern are available up to 60 amp!)

I eventually found a data sheet for the original relays rating at a max of 10Amp, all’s good!

The prelude controller, just for reference, same PCB number

All back on, all working fine now….

Whilst I was there, obviously I had to take the door card off, and was disappointed to find a broken tab…. Especially disappointing as I’d treated myself in 2020 to a completely new OEM set of door surround trims from Mita motorsport… annoyingly just before Mita started selling their uprated new versions….

Grrrr missing tab

Glue didn’t work

So, as I have a 3d printer….

Sorted….

note, i'd already had to make a replacement for the inboard tab! so both sides at that point have 3d printed replacements!

Just irritating… seems the new ones are as aged as the ones I replaced, with the plastic being brittle…. So, I’d suggest erring to the Mita motorsport ones if you are thinking of replacing them…. at least you know they are newer plastic with the enhanced design
