Help needed please ...

I want to put my door mirrors back together ... but for the life of me cannot recall how I managed to extract the inner working parts from the outer body ... and needless to say, no matter what I am currently trying, it is very much square peg round hole as they refuse to allow me to reconnect the two parts ...

I hope one of you nice, knowledgeable owners can offer some wisdom on how to achieve reassembly .. or maybe you can provide a link to an online manual??

Hi, Paul.

Not sure you wanted to know how the actuator housing (custard/yellow) meets the back of the mirror plate or
how the [mirror+actuator] assy sits inside the painted outer housing but I presumed it was the latter and

Thanks for the feedback and links gents ...

The issue I have is the reinstallation of the mirror plate inside the painted outer housing. I recall when stripping them thy were difficult to separate, so not surprised reassembly is a challenge ... I’m sure there’s a knack one of you will know. Pleeeaaaassssee :)

After you have connected both sides of the electric cable and place with plastic leading pin to the mirror housing holder spring, this picture will help you to find the right
hand position to press the mirror holder incl glass carefully to the mirror housing.

Best position to do this is if the parts are laying on the table.
Than you take the mirror assembly and hold it like into the mounting position.........this picture from KAZ is very helpful (as usual) and shows the next step.

If that job is done, you can press the mirror glass at the top side inside the mirror housing.
Now you can see and check the small metal holder, he should be hold the mirror/actuator assy.

Looking again at the last photo from Kaz (copied above) and it shows the housing slightly turned as if partly towards folded position... so I’m wondering if this is the key because if I rotate through 90’ as if folded, this reveals two Philips screws.

Looking at this, I’m wondering if this facilitates separation of the upper body of the mounting plate from the base. This I’m thinking would then allow my to feed the plate inside of the body and then reconnect to the two parts?

There is as can be seen in the photo, a fairly meaty looking spring, so before I attempt the separation, is there a risk I wont be able to put it back together without specialist tools??

Best advice is to turn the top part of the side mirror ~ 90° to the window before you remove that complete unit from the door.

Than you have best access to the 2 golden Philips screws, which holds the upper part (see picture)

I have done many of my cf side mirror conversions, sometimes you have to drill out that screws, because they stick like hell into the chassis, even with the 'right' tool.
I replace that damaged screws with Allen screw with lens head (V2A stainless steel)and use some urea grease during installation.
You will never have such a problem again.

No. If the small metal holder at the buttom side is removed, you can carefully pull the glass outside the chassis.
Maybe the white pin will spring out of the chassis mount, but it can be easliy pressed in again.

Hope Paul can chime-in and post his photo of showing exactly what he meant as the 'mirror/mounting plate' but I now found out my misunderstandings….

As in the 1st photo of Jonathan's post above, basically, Paul was referring to the black metal frame behind the mirror/acutuator assy (marked in yellow).

He took it out from the painted PLASTIC door mirror housing/body (marked in blue, painted in red).

I have no experience in taking this metal frame out of the plastic housing and
I presume he struggled to insert the two long stud bolt section through the opening of the plastic housing while
dealing with the interference between the rest of the metal frame and the door mirror housing.

My advice would be try rotating the spring loaded base section of the metal frame.
[Edit: In fact, looking at the photo from Procar Specials, looks like the base mount can be separated from the rest of the metal frame???
Again, I can't speak from my own experiences....]

It seems Procar Specials has many experiences so hope they can share the info.

Here is a picture how the side mirror looks if all single parts are removed.
You also have to separate the cables from the connector, good idea is to mark them.

Another gremlin is the small philips screw at the buttom side, which must be removed through a small mounting hole.
If there is too much rust, its impossible to remove that part and in this case you have to drill it out carefully.
Sometimes the thread is damaged and must be cutted again, also a new screw is necessary.

If these 2 unpredictable things will happen, you will need some patience.

the base mount can be separated from the body, i found this out when the pivot shaft seized and broke, meaning i had to make up a new shaft.....

however, if you got it apart, then it's just a case of getting the puzzle back together, you know it went one way!!!!

Combining all the responses, links and photos and I now have a reassembled mirror ... number 2 is proving a little more stubborn as the two screws that need to come undone seem more than happy as they are ... some persuasion is required and then I can set about installing them on the NSX

Once sorted I can then start on Clive’s project ;)
