as i'm leaving the refit until the morning, i've used the blanks that came with the new ABS modulator to cap off the rear brake lines, and the ends of the front flexy pipes!

if anyone has the need for a 'working fine when i took it off '92 ABS unit', you know where it is! i also have the 'Warrenw' of NSXPrime rebuild kit to go with it.....

....accumulator was replaced with a new one by me sometime on the past, can't remember when, but it's in my Build thread!!!!

while the heater motor assembly is out, i had a quick peek at the air-con evaporator....

looks nice and clean, the filter i put over the fresh air intake seems to be doing the trick!

day 2.... putting it all back together.... ok, i got a bit carried away and forgot to take some pics at the start! needless to say the most awkward pipe to thread through is the passenger front corner..... when the car was built none of the air con system was in place to get in the way, alas upgrading we don't have that luxury, so it's a case of gentle tweaks to get the pipes in, then gentle tweaks back to their original form!

anyhoo.... running pipes and loosely fastening them, just to make sure the pipes are in the right order to go across the car
http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161224_11_32_58_Pro_zpsearp9fln.jpg

as i'm running the wires, i realise i have a nice 40Amp supply right next to the ABS unit, the one that powered the clattery ABS pump on the old system, so a plan hatched.... as the new unit's motor requires the same level of power supply, i salvaged the connector off the old clatter pump, and picked out the motor supply and earth (pin 9 and 25) from my loom and tweaked a spare connector mount to give this...

http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161224_14_47_50_Pro_zpsprxsnak9.jpg

(the cable was tied in a more supporting manner once i'd finished fiddling!)

i also decided fairly early on that i was going to use the battery earth lead for the ABS earth point, my loom had the earth leads already around the right place... apart from the one already stripped out and connected to the old motor connector...

http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161224_14_48_01_Pro_zpsrtwsk5m5.jpg

also gave the battery earth connector a bit of a restoration at the same time!

AC evaporator looking clean... (double checked!!)

as i decided to use the original ABS motor feed, i had to do a little relay tweak.... on the original system, when the ABS computer detects low pressure in the accumulator, it fires a relay, and this sends 12v to the motor, running the pump until the pressure is restored. with the new system, the control is all in the magic ABS box of tricks, so just needs a constant 12v.....so...

get the relay...
http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161224_15_41_36_Pro_zpsrf7mfkw0.jpg

open it....
http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161224_15_41_44_Pro_zpsahnmallo.jpg

chop off the coil (don't need it) and after a bit of bending solder the 'contacts' together....
http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161224_15_47_16_Pro_zpsvlvabwnr.jpg

lob the cover back on, and now i have a dummy relay, that doesn't look out of place in the fusebox!

next step is wiring and bleeding the system (i did a quick bleed, just to get the new ABS pump and pipework to the front wheels and bulkhead primed)
and fit these....
http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161224_13_40_42_Pro_zpscdqzchaf.jpg

grabbed a quick hour on the car.... stripped out the glovebox and computer rack....
http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161225_11_25_29_Pro_zpswfsxnnw5.jpg

so i could route the cable in thru the large loom grommet (fat tube through a small hole = good seal!)
http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161225_11_33_21_Pro_zps50nn5qyr.jpg

and put it all back together....
http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161225_11_57_05_Pro_zpsvn91xqn0.jpg

the computer rack had to come out, as i wanted the remove the abs computer for various reasons! the computer is held in with 4 M6 bolts, one in each of the corners accessable from the glovebox side, one at the back accessable through the re-circ vent hole for the heater, and one that is soooo totally inaccessable that the rack HAS to come out, like it or not!!!!

oh, and Merry Christmas everybody!!!!

the sheets of paper have the colours of my wires from the ABS connector, and the '92 diagram giving the '92 colours and pin locations, just a case of joining the dots, and adding the relay for the ALB warning lamp.... i've taken the second permanent power feed from the connector (the fat black pair), so i'll now have one fuse for the ABS permanent supply, and the other is now dedicated to the TCS circuit...

http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161225_16_17_25_Pro_zpszh2w5t60.jpg

anyhoo where was i....

finished putting terminals on the end of the remaining wires, and put the pins in their respective sockets....
http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161226_14_04_00_Pro_zpstkbm5mgl.jpg

checked and double checked the ABS plug wires to NSX harness just to make sure i hadn't made any silly mistakes... confirmed my dash ABS lamp needed to be earthed to illuminate, and connected that to the appropriate connection on my little relay board. having the changeover relay makes any corrections easier!!!

with the brakes bled, and all the brake pipe ends checked for no weeps of fluid under pressure, the front end was put back together...

http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161226_14_03_17_Pro_zpskdbzg9ik.jpg

i must say the Speed Bleeders certainly made it easier, it makes a change for a product to actually do what it claims!

with that the car was taken around the block, and the ABS tested. it's pretty rural around here, so plenty of quiet roads where you can place a front wheel on a grassy/dusty verge and safely fire the ABS on that corner... it all seems to work as it should, seems a lot smoother operation, higher frequency, and without the usual clatter after 3 or 4 applications! all good :)

the traction control still works, ( necessary i think as i drive it in the snow and ice!!) so the extra £900 was all worth it! lol!

Back at base it was now a case of refitting the interior, but another tweak first....

the new ABS has a separate SCS diagnosis circuit. i've seen looms that ignore this wire completely, other solutions that make the connection available at the ABS pump, but i was aiming for something a little more ... well... me!

first up was the original SCS connector... you know the famous blue plug, that gets attacked with a paper clip to short the connectors and make the flashing lights on the dash... i don't want to do that any more, scrabbling in the footwell trying to find it, so i need to wire it in! for that i need to find a socket to match it....

on mine, i'm sure its the same with yours, Honda fitted a blue socket for the plug to clip into, to stop it rattling about when not in use.... hmm a socket..... just like this...

http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161226_09_56_05_Pro_zpssmkpe8nq.jpg

so could i use this? of course i can, but i need pins....

http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161226_14_09_32_Pro_zpsjojxwkp8.jpg

yup, they'll do, the ones left over from the AMP sockets i just used for my ABS loom....they needed a slight tweak to the 2 small prongs in the back side (basically folded them in) and once crimped to a bit of wire, i had this....

http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161226_09_58_44_Pro_zpsfvzc8sae.jpg

so now i have a pair of blue wires that can be connected together to give me my original diagnostics, and a pair of black wires, one direct from the ABS modulator SCS terminal, and the other to earth to give me the ABS diagnostics, i just needed a double pole switch to connect the 2 circuits independently

plan A was to put a nice little matching rocker switch above (or below) the boot release master switch in the glove box... the boot release master switch is double pole, but only uses one... nice, neat, oem, £49 for the switch from honda... errr no!

plan B was to use a less attractive switch and hide it a bit!

simple toggle switch, with a simple connector...
http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/abs%20going%20back%20in/WP_20161226_14_04_28_Pro_zps9nhqilkd.jpg

i'll make up a label later!!!

fortunately i have no error messages on the car after the short run (any others would have vanished as the battery has been on the garage floor for 3 days!!!), but i did do the ABS reset procedure in the car, and all was as it should be!

right, now what to do for the rest of the holiday.....

last bit of tidy up of the old cables....

now as these are all surplus, time to tidy...
http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah32/jonathan1937/NSX%20stuff/ABS%20conversion/WP_20161229_13_53_51_Pro_zpsu9zgju7x.jpg

now i don't cut them off the same length, if i cut them progressively shorter..

1. the ends of the wire are not in the same place, so stray wire shorts unlikely
2. there doesn't get a fat end to the wrapped cable
3. if it were to go back together, it's easier to ID wires, AND the joins won't be in the same place, tho that's not going to happen in this case anyway!

with the wire cut, i then pull the wire, the outer sleeve stretching slightly, the copper core not so, so the end of the copper disappears into a nicely insulated tube....

Is the original pump still working?
If so I could use it for my '91 Prelude if it fits on a l/s drive car.

Cheers
