View Full Version : Front Spoiler - opinions needed

Hello all fellow NSXers

I have taken my old spoiler off my NSX, as it was a little tired looking (yes I'm being a fusspot :lol: ).

I am thinking of buying one of these 3 as a replacement.

Has anyone got opinions, based either on experience, or from what you've heard from others etc..

These are the 3 I am thinking about.

WINGS WEST for $299

The main factors I am looking for opinions on are:
1 - weight
2 - forgiveness/flexibility, in case I "rub" it against the ground
3 - road stability/handling of car
4 - anything else you think is important

I am not interested in the fact it wont be stock.

I've tried several and my preference is for the one I currently have installed - the WW, as seen here

Darren, if I was to accidentally graze the bumper against the ground (speed bump, steep drive etc), will it be durable? I have to say, seeing it on your car makes me even keener on it. :wink:

Senninha, yeah it looks nice, but I dont want to wait around for the group buy any more, as that thread has been running for some time now without anything coming of it, but thanks anyway.

the WW lip is made of flexible urethane and is very forgiving

there is paint missing from 2 spots on mine where it has been grazed :oops:

Yet another question for you.... do you know how the weight of the WW compares to the combined weight of the OEM body panel + front spoiler it replaces?

it is quite heavy, probably 3x the weight or more

it only replaces the little black strip - the rest of the factory frontage that is no longer visible is because the WW mounts over the top of it

a bit :( on the weight side but looks very 8)

hmmm :(

but 3 x heavier may still not add much extra weight? How many kgs do you think it adds (ie how much fat do I need to lose to make up for it :lol: ?)

I've been prompted by this post to order a replacement OEM part for my car. The $102 Dali price is great in comparison with the £192 quoted by Chiswick Honda. Unfortunately, much of this saving will be lost by the $158 postage costs. Anyone out there interested in sharing postage costs from Dali?

Might well be actually. My NSX is back from the garage on Tuesday/Wednesday so let me have a look how 'tired' it is and I'll let you know.

I think the WW lip weighs 15lb from what I can gather through searching

the oem one is pretty light by comparison

I had the wings west front spoiler on my last NSX,and i think it looks MUCH better than stock.I wouldn't be overly concerned about adding the extra weight because it probably won't make any difference in real world terms anyway.I believe Darren mentioned in another thread that even with all the weight saving done on his car it wasn't noticbly faster,until he started playing with the gearbox and diff(Dar,please correct me if i'm wrong)so a 15lb increase in weight should be ok,heck you could even take the space saver out to compensate anyway :D

By the way, the space saver did come out of the car last year to save weight. 8)

at 11kg each, looking a little tired in places though, and bidding + shipping is over £200 already with 6 days to go.

Not that I've seen. Would suggest contacting Mark at Dali to see if has any. If you get some please post for all to view.

My OEM spolier lip arrived OK from Dali although with the $150 postage and another £29 import duty it was little cheaper than the one available from Chiswick Honda.

The real difficult bit is now getting the old one off. It is a nightmare. The plates with bolts holding it on are rusted solid. You can't turn them with force without shearing open the slots in the lower valance and the top part is really difficult to get a firm grip of. So, I'm soaking them in WD40 daily and I've bought some of the stuff that freezes the metal to enable the penetrative stuff to get into the joints. I do hope that I don't have to give up on it!

Anyone had similar problems and found a solution?

Dremmel tool with a cutting wheel and new stainless bolts from your favorite supplier.

Try to get some grips on the captive nut when you attempt to remove the bolt, this saves you chewing up the bumper too.

I nearly fell over when I was quoted for a full set of replacement nuts and bolts....£55! I went home and got the old ones from the bin and re-used what I could, reassembling with some Copper Slip to stop them rusting again.

.....door stickers!! Why put them on backwards? In fact, why put them on at all?

Splitter looks good, could be the Gruppe M, SoS maybe? Have you seen the new one coming from ProcaR?

I ended up going to a garage to get it off as lying on the driveway trying to do it was getting me more and more angry. The car needed to be up on a ramp.

It took the mechanic over 40 minutes to get the bolts off using mole grips and brute force. I have since ordered a full new set of bolts and plate nuts - at a frightful price - from Chiswick Honda. I wish I'd thought to order them from Dali when I got the spoiler.

Top tip. Don't bother replacing your lower spoiler unless it is really really needs it!
