Members will be aware that the number of NA1 cars being imported has increased recently and I was surprised that I had not seen any NA2 cars also being imported. Looking at Japanese websites you see the same pattern as the UK with very few, if any, NA2 (pre-facelift or facelift) cars for sale, those that are for sale command high prices.

For clarity I am using what I believe is the correct definition of NA2 which is 1997 to 2005 cars with 3.2 litre engine and 6 speed manual transmission (MT).

My estimate uses data sources I had previously seen:

1. NSXCB,

2. NSXPrime http://www.nsxprime.com/forum/showthread.php/88373-Production-Numbers

3. MACS Honda NSX Specialist http://www.macs-tokyo.co.jp/about/color.html (with aid of google translate),

Although there are some inconsistencies and missing data items it seems the worldwide RHD NA2 numbers are even lower than I would have guessed.

The UK 97 to 02 sales data shows 85 Facelift cars and 64 Pre facelift, I have assumed 50:50 for NA1:NA2 in 1997. I cannot see anywhere that shows a split for MT/AT. If I assume 50:50 split this gives 75 UK NA2 cars.
The MAC data shows there are only 40 in 1997 to 2002 listed for Asia/Oceana/Other (AOO) some of which could be RHD. The MAC data also that shows a total of 193 NA2 (3.2) cars up to 2004 for Japan and a total of 65 for 2005 Japan cars. So if we assume half of 2005 Japanese and AOO cars are NA2 we have 193+20+33=246 NA2 RHD outside UK.

So I estimate the worldwide RHD NA2 number is <= 325.

All the above numbers exclude the NA2 Type S/S Zero and Type R models, these were reported in 2007 on NSXCB as being:

152x NSX-R NA2
30x NSX S Zero NA2
248x NSX Type S NA2 (209x 1997-2001; 39x 2002+)
5x NSX-R GT NA2

Total NA2 all models = 760, with only 10% (75) of these being UK cars.

The only number that I can question here is the 152 NA2 R as I recall 140 being quoted elsewhere.

So with total worldwide RHD production around 9,000 including 483 NA1 NSX-R the NA2 models account for less 10% of all RHD NSX.

Finally the Facelift 3.0 litre Autos are also very scarce of course, so I would conclude that due to low numbers we are unlikely to see many imports of any NA2 or facelift cars of any model type, meaning they will remain a very rare sight in the UK.

I would be interested if anyone has any other data or analysis to assist validate, correct or improve the above estimate.

i was under the impression that the total production of NSX was around 18000, with 9000 going to USA

from prime ( https://www.nsxprime.com/wiki/Production_Numbers )

8997 sold in the US
701 sold in Canada
1559 sold in Europe / Middle East / Africa
7420 sold in Japan
18685 total sold

The US and Canadian numbers above are also confirmed in the following pages from the Honda 2010 Fact Book.
File:US NSX Sales.pdf (https://www.nsxprime.com/wiki/File:US_NSX_Sales.pdf)
File:Canadian NSX Sales.pdf (https://www.nsxprime.com/wiki/File:Canadian_NSX_Sales.pdf)

.....making a total of 9000 RHD production NSX just possible thanks to the Japanese numbers

and i wouldn't have put the manual/auto split at 50:50, i'd say its heavily bias to the manual.....

RHD auto is a rare beast here :)

I found this the other day which may be of some use. (http://www.crest-mx.com/nsx_history/salesdata.html)

(remember to turn on google translate)

It has slightly different numbers to the Macs info. but only slightly and has 2005 by model for Japan.

I have deduced that the Type S number include the Type S-Zero model (mostly 1997).

Interesting fact - the most common NSX variant sold in Japan in 1995, 2002, 2003, 2004 & 2005 was the Type R!

So the most common RHD facelift NSX is the Type R!

I read somewhere that the total NA2 NSX-R (2002+) was arround 300

The table shows 464 3.0l NA1 Type R.
140 3.2l NA2 Type R 02+ facelift, totalling 604 Type R.
The table shows 232 (all NA2, obvs) Type S of which 19 are facelift 02+ models.
The total number of Japanese NA2 is 584, of which 285 are 02+ facelift models.
So 140 of the 285 02+ facelift NA2s are Type R!
