It's not on the road until 2017. They have chassis number 1, they still have to build it for them to their specs according to the article.

Being #0001 I'll bet it will be locked away, never to see the road. Nice to see though that they had the good sense to make #0001 in red (even though I don't think of it as a real NSX)

The red one isn't the actual car to get #0001. The buyer gets to choose the color and options that he wants.

Well what other colour can the first one be, after all the first off any production line is always the problem child and slowest :D

Actually reading there article, and as already noted above by Dragonlady, there most certainly is not 'one on the road' yet, nor will there be so for some time.

NSX 2000

Bought by a Mr Hendrick

The first production Acura NSX of the 2017 Model Year was sold at a Barrett-Jackson auction for $1.2 million.

The 2017 Acura NSX's production has begun and the first ever car to leave the US factory went under the hammer. The following examples will be available for order for customers starting February 25, 2016.

The starting price in the US for an Acura NSX is $156,000 (http://www.autoevolution.com/news/the-2017-acura-nsx-is-a-little-overpriced-but-not-as-much-as-you-think-photo-gallery-103100.html) while a fully-loaded model will cost around $205,000. Customers who go for the fully-loaded car get a carbon fiber roof, carbon ceramic brakes, and more appropriate options. The second-generation Acura NSX is built only at the Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio.

The car with VIN #001 was purchased by Nascar team owner Rick Hendrick for six times more than what a fully-loaded version would have cost. The Nascar team owner will add the #001 2017 Acura NSX to his collection, held at a museum in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The proceeds from this sale will be donated to two charitable organizations, which will share the winning bid equally. This means that $600,000 will go to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, and another $600,000 will go to Zac Brown's Camp Souther Ground.

The first charity serves over 28,000 children in the United States of America who are living with the diagnosis of brain tumor. Camp Southern Ground also caters to the needs of kids, focusing on those aged 7 to 17 who have both typical and special needs. So hats off to whoever chose the two charitable organizations and to the winning bidder on his generosity.

Mr. Hendrick has a thing for cars with the VIN No. 001, according to Fox News (http://www.foxsports.com/nascar/story/hendrick-motorsports-owner-rick-hendrick-pays-1-million-for-first-2017-acura-nsx-012916), as he also owns the first production cars of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible, 2014 Corvette, and 2015 Corvette Convertible. Naturally, Mr. Hendrick's collection does not only feature this kind of vehicles, but we must admit he attained some exciting cars.

I thought initially it was a gimmick, but it appears to be a very nice gesture, both by Acura and by Rick Hendrick.

...and I suppose being a slow, troublesome red car won't matter if it's kept in a museum...
