I've just dropped the car off for its service and reported to the mechanic that a rattling noise appears from the front right-side of the vehicle when the car moves forward. After 2/3 minutes the noise stops and the ABS warning light comes on.

The mechanic reckons that the ABS pump is broken and could be expensive to replace. Can anyone confirm, from the above description, that it is the actual pump that is broken and do you know of anyone who may have a spare pump for sale?

The noise is indeed the ABS pump - or more accurately the solonoid within the pump. As the cars get older the solonoids tend to seize (especially on cars that aren't used frequently) and sometimes the only fix is to replace the pump.

The first thing Honda will try to 'fix' the noisy pump is to 'work the system' which basically means triggering the ABS repeatedly to try and free-up the solonoid. You can either pay Honda to 'hammer your brakes' on a slippery surface or you can do it yourself for free (in a safe environment obviously!). Sometimes just using the ABS (a lot!) fixes the problem.

Hope this helps!?
