Hi Guys,

Have just signed up to this forum, very informative for someone like me who is considering a NSX as his daily wheels. I am thinking of a coupe with pas and 6 speed box with pop up lights. I have done hours of research on this and the US Prime site for all the technical stuff and have a couple of "feel" questions

1. Not bothered by the power difference of the 3.2 ltr engine, but what is the 6 speed box like compared to the 5 speeder. Is it easier to use the power delivery of the engine with the 6 speeds and does it do away with the notchy change from 1st to 2nd.

2. The last time I sat in a NSX was at the 93 Motorshow!! Are there any specialist dealers in the South East as I would like to have a good hard look at a few cars before making a purchase.

Or - just a thought are there any owners on this forum who live near Maidstone Kent who would be prepared to show me round there pride and joy!

Safe motoring guys!

Welcome to the dream.

You have arrived at the right site and there are plenty of us who would love to show you around their pride and joy.

There are no specialist independant dealers that i know of but the best place to start would be Chiswick Honda who often have a couple in stock but not usually for very long.

Because there are so few of us there is often little choice and it might take a while to find one that suits, 10 months in my case. There is an element of ignorance about our cars as well but i noted you have begun your research.

I can't advise on the merits of a six speeder but i can tell you that you can get 30+mpg, the mechanics tend to be indestructable and nothing is likely to go wrong (if not abused) but beware of neglected examples!

I would be happy to fill in any gaps so PM me with a tel if you want.

Finally, as you are about to find out, we all love our NSX.

Silverstone wouldn't be too far a drive would it, quite a few of us are going to be there next weekend ??

Welcome anyway, not many of us 3.2 pop up head light types around.

Hello and welcome,

Silverstone next Sunday would be an excellent (probably the best) chance to see all the models bar the NSX-R side by side.

On the gearbox question, I previously had an S2000 with arguably one of the best manual boxes currently available. I can honestly say that IMO, once warmed up, the 6 speed on the NSX surpasses the S2.

Ivan at Chiswick not only sells any examples he has quickly, he is also a good source of information on cars in the market and may well save you buying the wrong car.

Good luck in your hunt, decide what you're looking for and have patience. The search for your right car is unlikely to be a quick one. Mine took 7 months and as many cars.

Regards,

You've chosen the right car! I can't make specific comments about the 6 spd vs 5 spd but you're welcome to have a look around my '95 manual if you want; I don't think I'm too far from you being close to Thurrock. Feel free to PM me if you want, I'm always happy to help get people into the church of NSX :D

I'm a bit further away, about 40 miles from you in Surrey. Incidentally, I used to live in Maidstone. I'd be happy for you to look over mine.

Yellow 97 and probably one of the last 5-speeds sold. Very good but not mint condition. The more I drive it, the bigger the smile gets.

I would have preferred a later 6 speed 3.2 but such a car would have been too expensive for me. Although a very nice 99 in silver (unfortunately, in my opinion, with a red interior) seemed to go for <£25k on eBay recently, RHD 6 sp cars seem to be £30k or more.

Guys

Thanks very much for all the feedback so far, pms have been sent !!

Don't think family commitments will let me get to Silverstone this weekend, but now I have access to the events calendar I look forward to meeting more of you as time goes on.

Have a great meet at the weekend

There was one on ebay a while ago that the owner was unaware of :(
Not seen one that cheap for a while, is the white one still available on autotrader ??

Well that has to one of the longest searches for the right car

I'd guess the past week has been quite something for you.

I can't give you specifics on 5sp v 6 or any technical information really as I have owned mine for only 2 weeks. I am way too far north to show you the car.

What I can confirm is that over the last 4 months there has never been more than a dozen cars for sale in the whole of the UK. If you remove the Auto's then the choice sinks further.

Make sure you check all prospective cars with HPI etc. and be prepared to travel for the right car.

Best of luck because the NSX is unbelievable to drive! Simply stunning. Everything I had hoped and more. The best thing since sliced bread:D

Cheers

John
